This thread is a continuation of this one. That one had become too big for its own boots the system to handle.

OP posts:
Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 11:01

Snort at tickers

it has become parody of its own ..er something

hoist by its own p'tard

or whatever they call it

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:02

OMB
Did posters then know what their number was?

LoneStranger · 03/01/2009 11:02

The very concept of 'royaly' and 'hun' is abhorrent. And, in the name of, FUN. I dont find that funny. At all. So what was the next phase? Would aposter with too many 'huns' find themselves auto-deregistered, or would they be privately vetoed by those adorned in 'royalties' and quietly advise that perhaps 'it wasnt the place for them? I am so intrigued; the palace place sounds, eerr so 'cosy' and 'special' and 'exclusive'.

StealthPo09IsHere · 03/01/2009 11:02

the rumours are growing fast!
I heard someone was kicked off for swearing

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:03

(In such a shock I became befuzzled, meant OBM not OMB!)

IorekByrnison · 03/01/2009 11:05

Having digested Aitch's valiant explanations of how it all worked as well as the posts of the various ex-moldies, morningpaper's conclusion seems the most apt: it's just not cricket. I can see that it seemed like a good idea to set up moldies for some people who wanted a safe place to chat with their friends, but sadly the result seems quite nightmarish what with the shifting sands of deletable posts, unexplained refused nominations, and popularity polls conducted on ones friends. I'm prepared to believe that this was because of some bad decisions rather than any malicious intent, but the result is the same.

Anyway, thank you aitch for putting up with my questions and explaining it all again - my curiosity is quite satisfied.

IorekByrnison · 03/01/2009 11:06

Oh, ok - add the huns and royalties feature to the list of nightmarish moldy qualities

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 11:07

I am feeling personally so much more cheerful since OBM's revelation

I think all members of MN ought to be emailed with a direct link to her post.

That way everyone will start laughing and it'll all be over.

StealthPo09IsHere · 03/01/2009 11:07

I heard the colour scheme is peach and cream with frills and lace as a theme

morningpaper · 03/01/2009 11:08

"taking the "top 150 most popular" Mumsnetters across to the new board"
MP, where was it said that this was what was happening?
Don't put it in quotes, like it was the stated aim of the board fgs when it was not.

Hunker you seem so angry with me, and I don't know why.

It wasn't my intention to suggest that was the aim of the board. But reading the membership list, that was what it looked like. It didn't sit comfortably at all.

Would you trust someone to know exactly how a group of more than 100 people thought in a day?

I've already said a zillion times that I KNOW people's intentions were good, but the execution was cack.

sinkingfast · 03/01/2009 11:09

Y'know, I think that this is a really good example of something that looks really easy but is in fact nightmarishly difficult. Running a forum looks like a piece of pss - anyone could do it, no? But Justine, Carrie et al have built up a wealth of experience and are very rarely caught out or deal with a situation in the wrong way (IMO, from observations over the years). Moldies seems from start to finish, a really good example of how not* to run a forum tbh. They would have been far better off discussing with MNHQ a way for MN to provide what they wanted but still under the MN banner tbh.

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 11:10

With knitted toilet roll covers

and glade

as ds says

'Can WE have a room full of flagrance, mummy?'

LoneStranger · 03/01/2009 11:10

Thanks for that Tiggiwinkle. I feel really strongly about all this. I have to also say that while some are upset about not getting an invite, such of us are upset because were are plainly not 'inviteable'.

i dont care if the place is crap, that's not the point. even if it is, my sentiments would still be the same.

The 'royalty' and 'huns' thing was for, errrr Fun. So may i ask what happened with that info? was there possibly a leter discussion that went "Think we might have made a mistake inviting this one." I assume that a 'close eye' would be kept of the member who invited someone who receives so many 'huns' and any further suggestions for further invitees looked at 'carefully'?

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 11:11

Sinking fast - am not ignoring you, your posts are very sensible.

IorekByrnison · 03/01/2009 11:12

Agree with sinking fast

BBBee · 03/01/2009 11:12

Lulu - I reqad this and often think there is nothing more I can add, but can I just say (as I have before) that I was nominated for moldies and vetoed.

I did not feel that I had been deemed not worthy - I just thought that people didn't recognise me or something.

So, if you want to know how it felt - it was kind of like that really - kind of 'oh well'.

I only speak for myself mind.

hercules1 · 03/01/2009 11:13

Apparently they have sniff and scratch - the more popular poasters emit smells like chanel 5 and the lower ones smell like jordan's own.

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 11:15

Can we have avatars please Geraldine?

I want one that says 'I practically live here'.

sinkingfast · 03/01/2009 11:17

TBH, I just feel sad about it - there are plenty of posters whose posts I've been missing - I've even put out a couple of "where are xxx?" threads. I'm the same as LoneStranger - I namechange regularly because I value my anonymity, so am never going to be recognised or invited to Moldies. But against the sadness, I have an increasing level of shudderiness about the whole concept - it was always going to go horribly wrong. The whole thing makes me feel a bit bleurgh really.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:17

I'd laugh so much to see Avatars on Mumsnet.
And tickers.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:21

I was chatting to a friend of mine at work about the whole moldie debate (she'd seen it in the papers)
She had appeared on T&S and had made a comment which was taken out of context and she received hate mail afterwards, because people didn't know the full context of her comment, and she could never put them right.
Which made me think that the whole moldie debate will run and run, but no matter what, the moldie site is never going to be in context for everybody, there will always be a cloak and dagger theme surrounding it.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:23

wonders if she can post the 1000

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/01/2009 11:24

dammit!!

hercules1 · 03/01/2009 11:24

That's me

LoneStranger · 03/01/2009 11:24

Good suggestion sinkingfast. Sadly i have that sinking feelling too just now. I woke up and thought i'd check if anyone had acknowledged my post this thread had moved on to talking about the more interesting tittle tattle that i find quite fun. I was going to have a massive fry up bowl of muesli, but i've lost my appetite for now.
