i once (have name changed) accepted an offer of financial help on here, and some others did too. MIne didn't come.
I was very embarrassed, but had to say that person mine hadn't come. The mnetter, said she would look into it, so i said great (still embarrassed). She never di tho.

Made me feel pretty sad, and as tho I was wrong for ever asking for the help.

wasveryannoyed · 07/08/2008 17:02

so it wasn't a lie as such, just soemthing that went wrong.

RoccocoFlourishes · 07/08/2008 17:02

No, don't think I know anybody on mumsnet in rl, but I used to amuse myself at work by typing names in to the name search on Friendsreunited, and seeing how my colleagues had bigged up their jobs.

lisad123 · 07/08/2008 17:04

I cant lie about my job, as my sisters would tell on me

brimfull · 07/08/2008 17:04

oooh never thought about lying

am going to start making myself more interesting

derelicte · 07/08/2008 17:04

Effie - I always thought your name was a pun on the asthma drug Epipherine. Doh.

RoccocoFlourishes · 07/08/2008 17:06

Hatrick, the children's names lie. That could have been deliberate. If the poster thought she'd revealed too much, throw out some red herrings.

SheikYerbouti · 07/08/2008 17:07

I am a 6ft leggy blonde with pneumatic breasts.

If any of you fuckers dare say I am lying, I will get my mate Fat Barry to do you in

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 07/08/2008 17:09

don't think so, and tend to stand by the points if I wouldn't say it in RL then I dont' say it on here unless it's a highly embaressing prob of a health nature lol. when I name change!

tbh I could prob have an online persona but would slip up - cos well, my memory just ain't that good!

NorthernLurker · 07/08/2008 17:13

My name is definately a lie - I am no longer a lurker. I'm an addict - but Northernaddict sounds a bit Ken Loach don't you think?

SheikYerbouti · 07/08/2008 17:13

You qare all liars anyway. I have it on good authority that you are all hairy knuckled truckies called Stanley

SheikYerbouti · 07/08/2008 17:14

I realise sometghing was amiss when Boco tried to get me in the back of his/her Eddie Stobart

I've told some white lies so that people can't identify me too closely, but I've never told a lie to impress ie. I'm a high flying city slicker when actually I'm a SAHM or whatever. There are a few complete bullshitters on here but seeing as they're quite entertaining i let them carry on

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 07/08/2008 17:22

sheik.

Quattrocento · 07/08/2008 17:29

I've been astonishingly coy to avoid identification in RL. Also namechanged 2/3 times (but not started trollery). Don't thing that counts as lying.

MummyToLeon · 07/08/2008 17:32

I didnt think you could have more than one account on mn because of the computers IP address... mn hq would be able to find you out surely?

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 07/08/2008 17:36

I agree that there are some bullshitters around. I haven't got the imagination for that!!!!

lulumama · 07/08/2008 17:39

i'm a cabbie called arnold

Flightputsonahat · 07/08/2008 17:41

Quite fancy you actually Arnie but didn't like to say

Tortington · 07/08/2008 17:41

i can;'t say i take enough interest in mumsnetters individual lives to piece it all together inspector lindley stylee.

the only moments i have had have been around people saying they are skint and also saying they just bought x.

but caught out? i don't give that much of a shit tbh!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 07/08/2008 17:43

But I really am a lion tamer.
Why won't anyone believe me?

I changed my name the other day so that I could 'bark' on a very stupid dog haters vs dog lovers thread (it was getting quite ridiculous and needed lightening up a bit IMO). I found that quite liberating and fun, which was sad, really.

In reality, apart from about 4 or 5 posters, I don't remember enough about anyone to know if they would be lying.

Flightputsonahat · 07/08/2008 17:44

Oh I do that Custy...mind you I don't moan about being skint. I just live in a nice little cloud where my overdraft is actually my money...

lulumama · 07/08/2008 17:46

oh yeah, flight, i am hoooooooootttt!

i always think if people are lying , more often than not , it is due to massive insecurity rather than anything sinister, especially some of the spectacular trolling that has occured...madame reynaud springs to mind..

lucykate · 07/08/2008 17:47

i think i have, not lying as such but story didn't add up. there was a poster who was complaining about being skint, and wanted to persuade her dh to ebay something he owned and how he was flatly refusing (not going to say what as it may identify the poster). but they had already started a thread talking about their recent holiday abroad (can't be that skint then ), and on further investigating, had also started a thread previously about her dh selling the item in question on ebay and a query about reducing the reserve or something, so he obviously wasn't against selling it either

not a serious one, but still i couldn't work out the reason for it all
