Can MN please do something about these posts late at night?

This is getting ridiculous now. Post after post from some weirdo on various threads. Can you PLEASE put some decent moderation in place at night?

Do you really think children start trolling parenting websites as soon as school breaks up??

Surely they’d be on Insta, X or something far cooler than Mumsnet?

Unless you’re implying the troll is a teacher? Now that really would be controversial 🤭

I think it's teenagers who are still cross their mothers spent too much time on Mumsnet when they were little!

UserNomNom · 16/08/2026 13:54

Based on the content it seems like one young person. They think posters here will find Atheism a shocking concept and never have explored it? So clearly in the discovery phase of their own development.

The sexual stuff was childish, too. Someone that just wants to shock a bunch of older women. Good luck.

I didn’t see anything about atheism but it looks like they think we don’t know that we are the product wtf

SwedishEdith · 16/08/2026 14:32

Maybe this is where a Hide poster button could be useful, even if only active for 8 to 12 hours or something. I know mn have always been anti the Hide poster option but a Time limit reduces the impact of this dickhead, at least, for now.

Yes, exactly. They think they are going to educate us. Good luck, Bub. We are a forum full of women earning 6 figures, wearing size 6-8, with paid off homes, feeding our families with one chicken and a big salad. You can’t teach us nothing. 🤣

I caught one post 3-4 nights ago that said it was all in the name of teaching us about atheism. Saw another 2 days ago.

Thank you for this. I’m never normally up that late and haven’t seen posts like that before last night with the images, I wasn’t aware the site had been targeted before.

Edited to add targeted again recently.

Hang on. You were not aware this site had been targeted before (edited to recently so fair enough), but you said this in your opening post. quote

"This is getting ridiculous now. Post after post from some weirdo on various threads. Can you PLEASE put some decent moderation in place at night?"

This makes no sense. You started a thread about it getting ridiculous now, but were unaware the site had been targeted recently ?

Why not just report the posts and scroll on ?

And if you did report them, how long until they were removed ?

Those posts could have been made at any time. And unless a mod is checking every post before it is published, how could those posts have been caught ? They would still have to be reported surely ? There are no banned words in them. They have to be reported to be checked.

What do you mean it isn't moderated? Of course it is. It just isn't overnight.

Who deal with reports. It isn't moderated in the way you would expect.

It seems like a common sense method, really.

I never participated in a forum where they had any other practice. Actually, can’t think of any forum with paid moderation.

BIWI · 16/08/2026 16:33

Of course the moderators are paid! But posts are not pre-moderated. The moderators only review posts/threads if they're reported to them.

The Night Watch is a different entity. A team of unpaid volunteers who are available usually after around 11pm until the morning arrival of MNHQ. They aren't paid and don't have the same 'tools' as the paid moderators.

How do you expect it to be moderated ? Every post checked before it is published ?

If you see a troll post, report it. And check back to see if it is removed. Is that what you do ? I do with spam. And any spam I have reported has been removed. Apart from one when I reported and said, " suspected spam". A mod took the time to email me to say they checked and it was ok based on users posting history. Totally fair enough. And TBH, a mod did not need to email me. It's up to the mods to remove or not.

If mods have to check every post, that will destroy the quick fire debates that often go on here.

How do you expect it to be moderated ?

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/08/2026 16:47

Suspending night time registration would help.

If you report a post at night, the mods don’t see it (because it’s night and they’re not working) and the Night Watch don’t see it (because they have been given no access to things like that).

If these things happen in the day, you report and it gets removed quickly.

If you post on the Night Watch area in the night, you have to wait for a volunteer to finish watching tv or finish their supermarket shop or wait for them to have a lunch break from work, and then if they log on they can deal with it.

And likely UK based. It’s basically someone being annoying and nothing hi-tech happening here. Not sure why it’s even rates much discussion.

I live in a different time zone. And when I report a spam post at whatever time it usually goes away. This is anecdotal of course. I am not keeping records. I have never posted to nightwatch.

Well you can report anything to wherever you want of course, but this is a British site where the mods keep mainly British hours.

Lots of other people do it too, then someone at Mumsnet probably spends half of Monday morning deleting all the reports about things that the Night Watch already got rid of.

But no one reads your report so there’s no point reporting.

TBF they were all dealt with very promptly.

I"m not sure about the bored teens theory.

I think this is the work of yet another angry, pathetic, impotent man on the internet.😕

So you don't report, then complain when nothing is done about the posts that you don't report ?

Logic overload sorry. What logic is this ?

The topic was reporting at night. No one reads your report at night because no one is working at night.

No Alan, I have never reported anything at night. Because mods are not working at night so no one reads the report at night.
