Can MN please do something about these posts late at night?

This is getting ridiculous now. Post after post from some weirdo on various threads. Can you PLEASE put some decent moderation in place at night?

Makes sense. People stopping up later because the kids are off. Hitting the pink gin and making tits of themselves.

I'm more convinced that they're blokes though. With not much of a life.

I’d love to think they’re mostly blokes but in reality, they know exactly what buttons to push so I’d say they’re mostly regular posters.

And unfortunately the majority of those are women.

ha you seen the posts by the current one

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2026 02:14

You just need to quietly report.

Trolls want a reaction. Every post that gives feedback is feeding the troll. This thread is feeding the troll because it shows people are getting wound up.

There is zero point in trolling if no one rises to the bait and no one shows they are wound up. That's the point.

There is no way to completely stop it. Even if there were paid mods.

JaneJeffer · 16/08/2026 02:21

You can’t quietly report anything at night. You have to make a thread in Night Watch if you want to report a troll otherwise they’ll carry on until the paid mods arrive in the morning.

UserNomNom · 16/08/2026 03:05

Is it a Catholic Troll? The posts I saw are kind of… well, I could do better.

Jerrybalanitis · 16/08/2026 03:10

Christ, get a life! You don't own the website, the Internet is full of weirdos. Read a book if you can't handle it. They only do it to laugh at your outrage so don't give them the satisfaction. It's just some lonely little person trying to connect.

It's a mixture of MRAs, TRAs, bots, trolls, shills, AI and cunts from all over the internet knowing they can get away with abusive, shit posting on Mumsnet.

Because there is no moderation.😕

Maybe Mods need to be employed in all countries as it’s always daytime somewhere!

Nobody will make me wear a mask
I refuse to have the alerts enabled
I resist ID cards
I welcome undocumented people and open borders
I am all liberal and tolerant
Boo Hoo, mumsnet has a troll. I want it to be censored immediately!

You can't have it both ways. Just ignore it and go to bed.

Are you the troll? It’s kind of pitiful troll work so it’s hard to tell the troll from his 43 year old mum. 👻

I'd settle for MNHQ mods and tech working overtime when needed. Like in most organisations.

Right, but this is benign and not worth people waking up in the night. It doesn’t warrant the tech team getting involved.

It’s very likely some poster’s kid. We used to yell “sex, drugs and rock n roll” from upstairs during my mom’s parent meetings. Not so different. 🤷‍♀️

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/08/2026 04:11

Mumsnet is a 24 hour a day, multi million £ global business on the internet. If shit happens on the site MNHQ should be able to deal with it whenever it happens.

We've been targeted by trolls on successive nights now. MNHQ are very aware of this, but they've done nothing. They haven't even paid overrime for temporary overnight moderation. Instead they scold the posters who bring it up.

RedTagAlan · 16/08/2026 05:08

What do posters want then ?

Maybe a button on the post dropdown that says " report and hide", so all posters can be user mods ? Or it could be restricted to the thread creator perhaps ?

That has problems too. Because then users can just hide any post for whatever reason. And what a mess that would be for the paid mods to sort out. Never mind if a troll gets bored and just hides everything.

I used to be a user mod on a forum. And it is not easy. I even had one poster who tracked me down and sent an email to my employer, complaining about the political views of their employees. When a post was reported, it was discussed among the user mods on a chat app. If one believes in freedom of speech, deleting what people say has ethical issues.

MN could just geoblock entire countries if they want. Or close it during UK night. Not good for posters such as me who are not in the UK.

I am on threads just now that have some posters that seem to report every post they disagree with. And that is where nobody is trolling. Yet these posters appear to go on prolonged debates with the mods over why posts should be removed.

And here is the thing. If one user has an idea for how to make the site work as they want, will that suit all users ? Nope.

As always with anything preventative, results can be difficult to measure. Because it might work 99% of the time and people don't see it working. But then that 1% does not work and people are up in arms about it, without knowing about the 99%.

I have not seen any of these troll posts by the way. And I am on MN a fair bit. And that leads me to ask, how many talking about these posts on these threads have seen them ?

I've stumbled across them pre-deletion at least once every night they've happened, as I'm not in the UK either so more likely to be active when the troll is posting. At least it's nothing disturbing, like the child sex abuse images last year - which thankfully I didn't see.

I think having a 'make an after-hours report to Night Watch' button available on posts is the bare minimum that Mumsnet needs to add, rather than posters having to know about and post in the Night Watch topic.

But really, Mumsnet just needs to pony up and pay for a few overseas mods, so that they can always have at least one paid moderator active 24/7.

They need sectioning by the sounds of it!

Thank you for this. I’m never normally up that late and haven’t seen posts like that before last night with the images, I wasn’t aware the site had been targeted before.

Edited to add targeted again recently.

i saw them for the first time last night - they seemed to be all over several new threads.

The previous night, I think I only saw where they'd been deleted.

I recall being unfortunate and seeing one of the images in the incident from a while back that others have mentioned.

It is utterly bizarre aka cheapskate to not hire 24/7 moderation whilst running 24/7 ads selling 24/7 content.

I doubt it.

There are far more interesting SM platforms on the internet for teenagers to troll.

I think a lot of them are disgruntled banned MNetters.

Oh yes let’s all ignore it so that it resorts to more extreme posts to get the attention it wants. Great idea.

purpleme12 · 16/08/2026 12:01

I reported a post last night and just got a normal email from them saying thanks for reporting we've deleted that post now.
