Can MN please do something about these posts late at night?

This is getting ridiculous now. Post after post from some weirdo on various threads. Can you PLEASE put some decent moderation in place at night?

So all you need to do is get a few people to report someone and their account will be automatically suspended?

That’s a very dangerous policy MN are utilising there and explains a lot.

Yes, I wasn't aware of that. I could certainly be misused.

I tend to hit the report button plus post to the Night Watch if it's the wee small hours. (I'm in the UK but don't always sleep so well.)

If that is what they are doing, why is it very dangerous ?

What @BoreOfWhabylon said makes perfect sense to me.

It explains why I got banned because of one poster reporting me... multiple times. Oh it can be misused it seems.

I'd assumed that it would have be reports from multiple users? Possibly not.

I don't think people are informed as to who has reported them. In my early days here I was given two warnings (which I hadn't spotted) for t hunting: I'd made a comment along the lines of "Found the t!"

I was merely told that I'd broken the rules.

This was one user. This particular one must have a part time dedicated mod.

And here we have the danger. From within as well as out.

I was told it was a mistake. I had to create a new account to talk to HQ.

The reporter by the way, free speech advocate. Of the Trump/Musk variety.

I've just been to look at the thread from last year in Site stuff, where MN were discussing moderation after the attack with the abusive images.

@BoreOfWhabylon is correct - there is an automated system. Justine was encouraging reporting overnight as well as contacting Nightwatch.

To be clear there are automated controls in place - if a post is reported a certain number of times or more within a certain timeframe then the post is automatically hidden.

The thread is here (I've linked to the page with all MN's answers)

Hang on. You were not aware this site had been targeted before (edited to recently so fair enough), but you said this in your opening post. quote

"This is getting ridiculous now. Post after post from some weirdo on various threads. Can you PLEASE put some decent moderation in place at night?"

This makes no sense. You started a thread about it getting ridiculous now, but were unaware the site had been targeted recently ?

Why not just report the posts and scroll on ?

And if you did report them, how long until they were removed ?

Those posts could have been made at any time. And unless a mod is checking every post before it is published, how could those posts have been caught ? They would still have to be reported surely ? There are no banned words in them. They have to be reported to be checked.

I’m not sure why you’re being aggressive in your post. I simply posted when I saw the posts last night. I noticed a few posts on site stuff a month or so ago regarding something similar. It WAS ridiculous last night, thread after thread I clicked on had images and random posts.

You should take your own advice and scroll on if you have nothing helpful to add. I’m certainly not going to explain myself to some random on an internet forum.

You need to post on night watch.

So juvenile but schools go back soon

Why do people say this?

Why on EARTH does anyone think that it's school children posting on Mumsnet at night?

And when people say it, I'm sure they think they're being funny. Confused

It's not funny because it makes no sense, and it's been said 1000 times before. It's right up there with spider willies and being darked on. Wasn't funny the first time, and hasn't ever been funny any of the 3756 times it's been said since.

And this shit doesn't happen any more often in the school holidays.

@PinkNailPolish2026 The only answer to this issue is to make people give their real details when joining MN from now on. Anyone who joins has to register and pay - just a pound. If they were to give their real identity - to Mumsnet not to anyone on the boards, you would see the trolling stop!

Chill 😂. It's more said as an indication of how childish and meaningless it is, as a put down.

Well we can’t can we. Give our real details because MN had an absolutely huge data hack and all our personal information was posted online. We were advised at the time to open new email addresses to use just for Mumsnet because they couldn’t say if it would happen again or not.

Giving your personal information to a site that can’t keep it safe would be lunacy.

It's not, posters are saying h it because they actually think children of today are making stuff up on here. It's laughable and anyone with a child like that should get them some help sharpish

I live in a different time zone. And when I report a spam post at whatever time it usually goes away. This is anecdotal of course. I am not keeping records. I have never posted to nightwatch.

Whatever time I report spam it disappears rapidly and I never get an acknowledgement - so I assume that like most sites spam report management is largely automated and operating 24 hours.

Content reports over the UK night are not picked up by mods. At the point of the child abuse images being posted at night there was not even a process of emergency escalation to paid mods with power to delete posts/users.

I’ve been a volunteer mod on many different platforms and I understand why people volunteer. However on commercial sites there is usually also some paid moderation on shift as well with powers to delete/suspend posts and users, if only out of self protection. TNW are not mods and do not have moderation powers.

There has been at least one publicly acknowledged case of a mod abusing their position based on a political stance. I think most operate in good faith, its certainly not absurd to suggest the possibility of position abuse.

NC9000 · 17/08/2026 19:55

This is infuriating. Someone like me posts a post, that is meant to be helpful as a reply to an OP, but someone else rudely comments on my post, I retort and my reply is deleted but theirs is left up.

Meanwhile, AI, porn and rage baiters are left to run amok on this site and we're told to not say anything or we'll be BANNED. Presumably because genuine posters, posting valid and real scenarios with real world solutions, don't drive the ad traffic.

I am reading other sites saying the owner of this site and staff have been investigated for many things, including allowing child abuse photos etc, so it makes sense that they are trying to use sensationalism as ad traffic.

Explains a lot. No wonder they rely on ads instead of subscriptions. Who wants to support a site only to have their legitimate stuff censored but perversion and hate encouraged??
