Mumsnet shutting down Amazon music if I open a thread.

Pinklightning · 28/04/2026 17:00

I’ve contacted HQ via email but none of the suggestions have worked so I thought I’d ask here in the hope someone has experience of how to fix this.

This morning I was listening to music as normal on Amazon music and opened mumsnet to read threads. My music stopped. I thought it was a blip but it’s refused to work all day if mumsnet threads are open.
I’ve deleted and reinstalled both Amazon music and mumsnet apps. I’ve turned it off and back on again. Force closed. Cleared the cache. No VPN. Both apps updated.

I’m on iPhone and running iOS 26.3.1(a).

Has anybody experienced this and know how to fix it please?

I’ve also sent a screen recording.

Hi all,

We're in the middle of investigating the cause. If you’ve noticed this happening, it would really help us if you could let us know a few details:

Does the audio stop immediately when you open the app, or only after scrolling/opening a thread?

Does it happen every time, or only occasionally?

If you restart the audio and go back into the app, does it stop again?

If possible, please also let us know whether you’ve noticed it happening after seeing ads, as that may help us narrow things down.

Thank you, @sarahbanshee, we'll take a look at your recording now.

JoMumsnet · 07/05/2026 13:48

We're back again to say that we've located the specific ads that have been causing this issue and, all being well, we should have this sorted fairly soon. We'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

Thanks for being so patient - we understand how annoying this issue has been.

awfulapril · 07/05/2026 23:10

It stops immediately and if I go back and restart the archers and then return to Mumsnet, it still cuts out

Oh that isn’t the annoying adverts designed to override your controls - that is the well known phenomenon whereby a device is suffering from Excessus Grundyitis and is quite widespread at the moment 😁

Pinklightning · 08/05/2026 09:17

I’ve opened mumsnet just now and it’s closed down my Merlin bird listening app. It’s not done that before.

I just experienced this listening to Apple Podcasts so I switched to Apple Music and it did it again. Then randomly the music started playing again after about 50 seconds and then stopped again - it’s really annoying!

scoobysnaxx · 08/05/2026 09:22

Same with Spotify so annoying

JoMumsnet · 08/05/2026 11:28

Morning all,

Just letting you know that we released a new version of the iOS app this morning that fixes the issues with audio cutting out. The app should update automatically, but if you're still experiencing problems please go to the App store and click on the Update button.

We're currently testing the new build on Android and aim to get that released as soon as possible.

Thanks for bearing with us!

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 08/05/2026 13:52

My app appears to have updated and whilst it doesn’t immediately cut off now, it still does. I don’t think the fix has worked. All apps with sound. iPhone.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 08/05/2026 13:56

Will that also stop it happening when you access MN through the browser? This isn’t just an app issue.

tulippetals · 08/05/2026 13:59

I think it’s fixed!

What about through the browser. This isn’t only an app problem. It is rather urgent.

RockaLock · 08/05/2026 18:27

Nope, still not fixed for me.

I’ve just updated the app. iPhone 17 pro, running iOS 26.4.2.

I restarted my phone just for good measure but nada, Apple music still cuts out as I scroll down a thread ConfusedHmm

AnOldCynic · 08/05/2026 19:20

Same here. Not sure whether it’s certain adverts or not. I’m going to keep track.

MyCottageGarden · 08/05/2026 19:22

Yes same with YouTube (I have YouTube premium which allows you to minimize your video and play in the corner whilst on other websites. It’s cutting it off whereas it never used to

sprigatito · 08/05/2026 19:23

Same with Spotify. It’s really pissing me off.

wizzler · 08/05/2026 20:11

Bizarrely if I am charging my car via the App it stops if I open a thread on here. I was about to contact the manufacturer as I thought there was a problem till I saw this thread and put two and two together !

RockaLock · 08/05/2026 20:21

I really don’t think it’s any ad in particular: it happens on every single thread that I open. Every single time. The latest update has definitely not fixed it.

Extremely annoying, but on the plus side, it has made me do other things on my daily commute 🤷‍♀️

sanityisamyth · 08/05/2026 20:28

Mine keeps doing it with audible listening to an audiobook. It’s really pissing me off and wanting to delete the Mumsnet app!

shuffleofftobuffalo · 08/05/2026 23:04

Mine is doing it with Spotify. Please don’t ask us to identify which ads it is - this never used to happen at all and now it’s made the app unusable. Your app is causing major issues if it’s stopping EV charging! I’m really pissed off. Go and ask your developers what they have changed recently and fix the fault.

also - I had an email from MNet earlier about issues with using the site on safari - you’ve obviously got a few issues to resolve!

theministerscat · 08/05/2026 23:05

Just did it again now with Audible. Annoying.

Yes, this! I have enough irritating life admin jobs piled up, I don’t need a to-do list from MN as well 😂 just fix the bloody fault.

TellHerToFuckOff · 09/05/2026 10:21

Losing the will with this app… same things is happening to me with the music. I’m using iOS 26.4.2. Doesn’t matter if it’s radio, Spotify or Apple Podcasts, opening the app cuts it off.

Between that, and the sentences in some posts being cut off, and the titles of some threads being invisible, there’s a lot of annoying little things on the app making it increasingly frustrating to use.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/05/2026 10:28

Seems to be resolved for me since updating the app this morning
