Mumsnet shutting down Amazon music if I open a thread.

Pinklightning · 28/04/2026 17:00

I’ve contacted HQ via email but none of the suggestions have worked so I thought I’d ask here in the hope someone has experience of how to fix this.

This morning I was listening to music as normal on Amazon music and opened mumsnet to read threads. My music stopped. I thought it was a blip but it’s refused to work all day if mumsnet threads are open.
I’ve deleted and reinstalled both Amazon music and mumsnet apps. I’ve turned it off and back on again. Force closed. Cleared the cache. No VPN. Both apps updated.

I’m on iPhone and running iOS 26.3.1(a).

Has anybody experienced this and know how to fix it please?

Similar experience but with Apple Podcasts -
my podcast keeps stopping every time I open Mumsnet, it’s fine with other apps.

I am also on iPhone, running iOS 26.3.1(a)

I get this with apple music!

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 28/04/2026 21:21

Yes same with BBC sounds.

user1471548941 · 28/04/2026 21:23

Same with BBC iPlayer

AllotmentTime · 28/04/2026 21:24

Same with Apple Music

B0D · 28/04/2026 21:25

BBC sounds too. On IPhone, is anyone having this problem on Android?

greyweek · 28/04/2026 21:27

It’s the video ads on the top/ bottom of the page, I think. They play automatically and stop any other sound streaming.

Waitingfordoggo · 28/04/2026 21:27

I had this earlier with Spotify. Thought it was odd as I don’t remember it ever happening before.

Pinklightning · 28/04/2026 22:30

It seems ok now not I’ll test it properly tomorrow. Perhaps it was a random glitch today.

Facebook did it too but it always did it. I’ve turned the microphone off for Facebook and it’s now ok.

Hope you all get your glitches sorted. It’s so annoying.

Yes same! I thought it was my Amazon playing up!

I’m on IOS26.4.2 now after updating last night although it had fixed itself before I updated.

Mumsnet said I was the only person to have raised this so perhaps everyone get in touch to make them aware as it does seem to be a problem with mumsnet rather than the other apps.

Keeps happening to me with Spotify. It’s usually because of an advert running in the background (happens to me on Facebook sometimes, too, but at least with Facebook, if I close the app down it works again). Really irritating

shshs · 29/04/2026 07:39

Yep this started happening to me this weekend, really annoying, just makes me avoid MN when I’m listening to music. Wasn’t sure if it was a setting I could change my end?

Pinklightning · 29/04/2026 08:49

It’s doing it again 😩 I’ll go to the Apple Store today and see what they say.

PassTheCranberrySauce · 29/04/2026 08:51

It’s because there’s an advert at the top of the MN screen which stops whatever is playing in the background.

CannotConfirm · 29/04/2026 08:53

If you look on the other site stuff threads, there is definitely something wrong with MN and not much support or reasoning around it.

Usual MN answers are ‘on’ us to make changes, rather than MN ensuring their site is functioning.

PsychoSyd · 29/04/2026 09:12

Yep, I’ve got it too with Spotify on my iPhone. iOS 26.4.2 and Spotify version 9.1.44.2119.

Yes I had the exact same thing the other day. Especially when scrolling past adverts, not posts as such.

RockaLock · 29/04/2026 13:15

Yes, same here with Apple Music. I agree it’s probably something to do with the ads.

I usually sit and scroll Mumsnet on the train to/from work, but I won’t if I can’t listen to music at the same time. @MNHQ, please sort this out. It seems every time you make a change in the app, it gets worse!

EasternStandard · 29/04/2026 13:26

Same with the radio

Came here to say this. I don’t know about Mumsnet but if I’m listening to something and on Facebook, some ads or articles make the music stop. It’s likely that when it happens, there is an advert at the top banner that’s done this and it’ll be a different advert when the music carries on. Not an expert so could be wrong

CrushingOnRubies · 29/04/2026 13:49

Yes Facebook does it as well if if I have muted the sound on videos. But that’s been happening for a while with mumsnet it’s more recently an issue

PolkaDotPorridge · 29/04/2026 14:55

It’s happening with my podcasts. Very irritating!

PatNoodle · 29/04/2026 15:29

There was another thread about this issue recently and they said that it's to do with the ad videos autoplaying and suggested the following

BeckyAMumsnet · Yesterday 16:42
Hello. That doesn't sound right - we're going to look into this now. Could you let us know what ad it was?
In the mean time, you could try turning off autoplay in your browser settings and see if that is a temporary fix.
On iPhone/iPad (Safari): Settings → Safari → Auto-Play → Never Auto-Play, or use the “aA” menu in the address bar and change it under Website Settings
On Android (Chrome): Settings → Site settings → Media (wording can vary slightly by device)
