Mumsnet shutting down Amazon music if I open a thread.

I’ve contacted HQ via email but none of the suggestions have worked so I thought I’d ask here in the hope someone has experience of how to fix this.

This morning I was listening to music as normal on Amazon music and opened mumsnet to read threads. My music stopped. I thought it was a blip but it’s refused to work all day if mumsnet threads are open.
I’ve deleted and reinstalled both Amazon music and mumsnet apps. I’ve turned it off and back on again. Force closed. Cleared the cache. No VPN. Both apps updated.

I’m on iPhone and running iOS 26.3.1(a).

Has anybody experienced this and know how to fix it please?

Same here and it’s driving me batshit and actually makes me stop reading Mumsnet. Spotify, podcasts, everything.

This is one of many reasons that on the rare occasion I use MN on my phone I still use a browser - Brave and Ghostery do the job just fine. Both stop the interference.

Trying to prevent autoplay in the settings failed to stop the awful pop up adverts and interference with whatever I was listening to at the time. Some cheap game apps also override in this way, in their case its a nuisance factor to “encourage” use of paid versions.

A recording might be the best way to illustrate the issue. What’s the best way to send recordings to you?

Thanks, @CrushingOnRubies - you can email it to [email protected]

theministerscat · 02/05/2026 16:42

Same for me with Spotify. V annoying.

JanefromLondon1 · 02/05/2026 17:30

Happening to me too. In the car trying to scroll MN and keeps stopping Apple Music. I’ve tried all the hacks in google and then turning phone on and off 🤷🏻‍♀️. Had to let DH listen to 5 live sport 🙄

@BeckyAMumsnet surely someone at MNHQ has an iPhone, so you guys can actually see it happening rather than relying on users trying to record it and email it in Hmm

awfulapril · 02/05/2026 18:16

And Spotify

Lolol

@RockaLock I have an iPhone and have been unable to recreate it, unfortunately. I have tried it with Podcasts, Apple Music and BBC Sounds. 😕A screen recording is useful because it shows what you're doing/what ads are showing when the audio cuts out.

InfoSecInTheCity · 02/05/2026 18:55

It’s as soon as I click on any thread it pauses my media whether that be Spotify or a streaming video. The iPhone/ipad is treating MN like a camera because the same thing happens where media pauses when the camera app is opened. I suspect that MH have made a change to the app config to either ask for audio focus, or to auto-play video/audio on ads.

I emailed mumsnet again about this but no reply. There have been so many complaints about the ads since they became so prolific but mumsnet don’t seem to care about user experience.

They will when we all deregister or stop using MN. That will hit revenue, and sale price if the deal hasn’t already been agreed.

I do think MN should be doing better with this. They did make £2.65 million 2024-25! Perhaps spend some of the profit on improving the user experience and IT glitches.

awfulapril · 02/05/2026 22:44

And the archers on bbc sounds

awfulapril · 03/05/2026 09:22

weird that Mumsnet HW Has the Power, so that it doesn't happen!

Pinklightning · 03/05/2026 16:46

Mine is working now but playing around with it and if I click on an advert then go back to mumsnet my music will stop. It’s also more likely to happen when I’m listening via headphones. It’s so easy to accidentally click on an advert because they are all over the page.

Ok. Here we go.
I have got a video of it happening

Abirdinthehandisworthzilch · 04/05/2026 11:27

This has just started happening to me.

awfulapril · 04/05/2026 15:15

Okay, now it's shutting down audible as well

PolkaDotPorridge · 05/05/2026 08:54

It’s getting very irritating now. It’s happening on opening the app!

Pinklightning · 05/05/2026 09:24

I’ve sent a video this morning.

I’ve sent a video this morning.

Thank you. They don’t seem in a rush to fix it.

Startoftheyear2026 · 05/05/2026 09:47

Happens to me now. Very annoying. Come on Mumsnet please sort this out or advise how to stop it! The autoplay suggestion didn’t work for me.

m1ghtl1ke · 06/05/2026 14:47

This is so annoying, shuts down my Apple Music or audible. I will keep them over mumsnet so hopefully you can sort this soon

WonderingAndOverthinking · 06/05/2026 14:52

Same here. Shuts down all audio apps (Amazon Music, Libby, BorrowBox).

awfulapril · 07/05/2026 06:15

Still no solution @BeckyAMumsnet?

tothefareast80 · 07/05/2026 06:57

Same here with Spotify, audible and bbc sounds. Happens when I open Mumsnet. It’s so irritating!
