AIBU to ask what on earth this ad is about? *Trigger Warning* Sinister Image

What even is this? This ad is regularly shown in my Mumsnet feed. It's previously had some very odd text on it too; I can't remember the exact wording (something like "How did you die?") but it seemed pretty sinister... Is anyone else seeing it? Any ideas?

The purpose of these types of ads with weird images is to stop you scrolling and click on the link.

Sidebeforeself · 04/12/2024 21:28

please sort this out MNHQ

Onlycoffee · 04/12/2024 21:38

I really can't stand them, they are so disturbing. If anyone works out a way to stop them appearing please let us know bectit doesn't look like Mumsnet is going to do anything.

Are you allowed to name the site or give a clue?

If I didn’t already use Etsy then it would not encourage me to look at the site to buy items!

I do use Etsy already and wouldn’t click on the pictures/ links as it makes me think they’ve been hacked and it’s a scam site!

I bet many people have visited Etsy for the first time as a consequence of that ad.
There is no such thing as bad publicity.

That may be true, but none of us are clicking... my tolerance for ads was low before this!

Noooooooooooo! It feels like Ringu or The Grudge for the 2020s! 😭

🤣 It's ok... it's not real. Just Mumsnet (I don't see it anywhere else 👀)

OMG I get that one too. I've reported it to MN. They've tried to remove it. It came back. They suggested deleting my cache. I did and it came back. I've tried different browsers. It came back. The thing is it only ever pops up on Mumsnet.

JaneJeffer · 05/12/2024 12:58

Makes a change from balaclava man I suppose

LochKatrine · 05/12/2024 20:28

It's absolutely horrible and I'm sick of looking at it.

Pottedshrimpy · 05/12/2024 23:23

Still very much there Mumsnet

PyreneanAubrie · 06/12/2024 10:36

A week on, it's still appearing multiple times daily. I've reported it umpteen times - just fed up with seeing it now.

JoMumsnet · 06/12/2024 14:16

Hi all, we're sorry that these ads have continued to crop up. We've (hopefully) permanently blocked them all now, but please let us know if any are still appearing.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/12/2024 15:16

Still happening

iridescentsnowflake · 06/12/2024 16:01

They’ve just come up for me again - but on the side adverts, not at the top.

I noticed today that the ads were much nicer, calmer, and even very local to me so I knew you'd done something. However, in the last half hour they're back 👀 Were they just waiting for you to go off duty? 😂

In other news... I got a very inappropriate ad on my Life360 today 🙈 The app that my children and I use to keep track of each other... 👀 I reported it and they seemed to take it very seriously and I haven't even had any ads this afternoon so maybe they paused them; I'd never noticed ads on there before (couldn't miss this one, it was a video and the pink just kept flashing across the screen). I know free sites need an income, but I'd be upset if my site was unknowingly pushing that stuff.

I've been getting that loads too. I've clicked on the Google ad to say stop showing this to me.

I am clicking on that each time this horrible ad appears (often, and only on Mumsnet) but it keeps coming back.
It's horrible

Sidebeforeself · 06/12/2024 20:41

I wish MNHQ would either sort it out or update us on this.. it’s quite distressing now

PyreneanAubrie · 06/12/2024 21:23

Same ad is now on side of page instead of top. For some reason I'm finding that worse 😬

Onlycoffee · 06/12/2024 21:40

On mobile and still seeing the same ads
