AIBU to ask what on earth this ad is about? *Trigger Warning* Sinister Image

What even is this? This ad is regularly shown in my Mumsnet feed. It's previously had some very odd text on it too; I can't remember the exact wording (something like "How did you die?") but it seemed pretty sinister... Is anyone else seeing it? Any ideas?

I was relieved to see this thread because this advert has been really upsetting me.

The picture of the man with leprosy is unpleasant but I can cope with that because I understand what it is. It's the picture of the " wool" that really creeps me out. It's just so horrible. I just couldn't work out what it was - I thought it was a dead animal with it's flesh torn, or a bleeding scalp. Or something equally revolting.

I understand advertisers want to catch people intention but to to deliberately set out to upset people is inexplicable.

@HebeMumsnet It still shows up on my Threads I'm On (desktop version), but seems to have gone from other bits.

I've just had it appear again, on my notifications page. Dell laptop, Chrome browser.

I’m still getting them appear and I’ve just come on to see if there’s a post on them as I don’t feel they’re appropriate. I’m always getting the same images, with a ‘How did you die’ poem. This is from just now, at the top of the page.

Of all the things Etsy sell, why these images?!

Does Etsy know these images are being used to advertise their site?!

That's the jackpot; you got the full set! I'm sorry, I know it's not nice, I did get that combination earlier but with two at the top and two bottom (I'm on tablet sized on desktop) but before I screenshot it changed. @BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet it's definitely not fixed...

Also, although it's not good we're all getting these, it does bring a sense of relief that it isn't just me. I sat on this for a good couple of weeks until the newer face image joined the party. And yes, I am now getting octopus too 🙈🤣

I only get it on my phone, my laptop is ok as ads are blocked.

I daren’t click or search on there but I am very intrigued as to what the items are!

I keep getting this advert as well on the mobile site, using safari. Ad link Shows up on all different types of threads.

The ad is achieving its intended goal: to draw attention to the website it is promoting.
Not only that, but people are creating threads on another online forum to discuss it so more traffic to the site.
Tasteless, but effective.

I’ve just looked at this thread, and now I have all four images; the How did you die? Poem, the face, the hair and the weird octopus. I had noticed the face and the poem before but tried to ignore them. I was looking at this thread : AIBU?

If I didn’t already use Etsy then it would not encourage me to look at the site to buy items!

I do use Etsy already and wouldn’t click on the pictures/ links as it makes me think they’ve been hacked and it’s a scam site!

I didn’t see these images until I clicked on this thread and now they appear everywhere whenever I open mumsnet!

I don't use Etsy. I have seen some nice things pop up over the years in other ads, but these have definitely given me the ick, and I did wonder wtf... I would never intentionally click on them, and yeah I think Etsy is on the way out from what I hear of people who sell on the platform... Sellers are best off having their own platform from what I gather.
