We’re excited to introduce a new feature that makes browsing trending content on mobile devices easier.

Now, when you're reading a thread, simply swipe left to move directly to the next trending discussion. If you’re enjoying discovering new threads, keep swiping, and you’ll continue to see the latest trending topics effortlessly.

When you visit a thread for the first time, you will see a message on the right hand side explaining how to use the new feature. If you select ‘Got it’, you will not see it again. If you choose to ignore it, you will see it 3 times before it disappears.

This feature is designed to help you explore popular conversations more easily while keeping the experience smooth and seamless.

We will be staggering the release of this, so some of you may not have access to the feature today, but if you don’t, don’t worry you will very soon!

We’d love to hear your feedback or answer any questions—feel free to share them below!

Gah, and it's no better on desktop either if you've got quite a narrow browser window. Just tried editing some text on a reply before hitting post, and because I clicked on the text to highlight it, the site decided I must obviously want to go to the next thread. Three times it did it before I gave up and just held down backspace for ages instead.

And anyone else who's accidentally swiping, could we ask you to let us know which device you're using (the specific model please) and which browser? Thank you.

Can I ask how this information will help? The device and browser surely doesn't matter as the swiping is working as intended?

Ohnonina · 06/11/2024 16:55

iPhone 11 on Safari.

Why?? It's the feature we don't like, it's working exactly as you intended it to, we just hate it

I can't see how this makes any difference at all. I've said I hate it when it happens on news websites and makes me close down the site, I've told you how it happens due to the movement of my thumb scrolling bottom right to middle left. Multiple posters here have said it's made the site unusable.

I've stopped using mumsnet as my go to time killing website now and found somewhere else to go so problem solved for me. I'm just really disappointed that you say you are keen to listen to feedback but when feedback is a resounding no thanks, you don't want to hear it.

MurdoMunro · 06/11/2024 18:09

Nah. I’d rather not thank you. I’d be going through half a dozen ‘women who have babies are idiots’ ‘women who don’t have babies can’t keep budgies alive’ ‘here’s my opinion of the day and I have nothing more to say on the matter’ bollocks and then losing the will to live. I’ll stick to picking for myself.

It'll be 'clear your cache' next! 🙄

Chrome on both Windows 11, and on Android on a Nokia XR20, but it's not device specific, it's just bad design.

Have you done something to try and fix it? I've just realised I haven't had the problem for a day or 2.

Anyway I'm using Chrome on a Samsung A52.

kitteninabasket · 07/11/2024 15:34

still happening for me on iPhone.

blackteaplease · 07/11/2024 16:03

Adding another vote for hating this feature. I'm on chrome on a Samsung A15 and keep getting a new thread when trying to scroll down. I don't want the next trending thread. I read whatever looks interesting

JenniferGreenHat · 07/11/2024 16:09

So this is why I keep losing my thread and page. I had blamed it on my new phone case. It’s driving me mad. Safari on iPhone 15 Plus.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2024 16:32

I swiped.

Nothing happened.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2024 16:34

I'm on an android mobile using the app.

Very few MN features are available on the app on my phone for some reason.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2024 16:37

Bestyearever2024 · 15/10/2024 07:57

I just want access to private messages on the android app

Me too.

I think it is just when on the mobile site on your browser.

You don't want the feature, you've dodged a bullet here with this one.

Agapornis · 10/11/2024 07:31

MNHQ: 'it's not a bug, it's a feature!' 💀

Like others, when I hit back, it doesn't take me back to the thread I was reading. It doesn't even appear in my browser history.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2024 07:36

It seems to have been extra sensitive this weekend. I've lost count of my accidental swipes. 😠

BeckyAMumsnet · 13/11/2024 16:00

@VimesandhisCardboardBoots thank you - we are working on a fix for this and will update you ASAP.

We are also looking into the issue that some of you have reported on Android -where you click 'back' after swiping and it doesn't take you to the thread you were previously on.

We'll be back soon when we have further info. Thanks for your patience.

ShamblesRock · 17/11/2024 21:34

Oh my goodness it seems worse than ever this weekend. I don't think I've managed to read a full page without ending up in a random thread.

Please ditch it, faffing around at the edges is not the answer.

kitteninabasket · 17/11/2024 23:59

It stopped for me briefly and now it’s back and as infuriating as ever.

TheSilkWorm · 18/11/2024 04:11

PLEASE just jettison this pointless and irritating feature!
