We’re excited to introduce a new feature that makes browsing trending content on mobile devices easier.

Now, when you're reading a thread, simply swipe left to move directly to the next trending discussion. If you’re enjoying discovering new threads, keep swiping, and you’ll continue to see the latest trending topics effortlessly.

When you visit a thread for the first time, you will see a message on the right hand side explaining how to use the new feature. If you select ‘Got it’, you will not see it again. If you choose to ignore it, you will see it 3 times before it disappears.

This feature is designed to help you explore popular conversations more easily while keeping the experience smooth and seamless.

We will be staggering the release of this, so some of you may not have access to the feature today, but if you don’t, don’t worry you will very soon!

We’d love to hear your feedback or answer any questions—feel free to share them below!

As everyone else above, I hate it because it doesn't appear to be able to distinguish scrolling from swiping. Please make this option (preferably opt in).
Android (Samsung), Chrome. Unable to record it as it it's inconsistent. I have a glass screen protector so maybe that makes a difference too?

Sandwichgen · 24/10/2024 16:39

What everyone else has said.

it’s a pain

BlackOrangeFrog · 24/10/2024 16:45

I don't even have the feature.

Is It supposed to be on in chrome android?

BlackOrangeFrog · 24/10/2024 16:46

Do MN techs even vaguely test these features before release??? Confused

Bearing in mind they can never replicate any issues we raise, I doubt it!

WellHelloScottie · 25/10/2024 09:10

I've tried four times to zoom in on a photo and got taken to another thread each time. I've given up.

It's a ridiculous feature.
Why would we need to be taken to another random thread, FFS?

Chasingsquirrels · 25/10/2024 09:13

I wondered why this keeps happening, is it REALLY ANNOYING, and I also can't seem to go back to the thread I was trying to read.

Procrastinates · 25/10/2024 09:18

I think it's pretty ridiculous that despite every post generally saying the same things. We don't like it, it doesn't work, it's a nuisance, and the fact no one asked for it the response isn't ok we hold our hands up this isn't working we will implement an option to turn it off.

What good is a screen recording of the issue. It's been clearly explained? Sometimes it's ok to admit something didn't work the way you hoped and go back to how it was before. .

WellHelloScottie · 27/10/2024 08:14

MNhq, will you please take this feature off? I can't even scroll through a thread gallery now.

TheSilkWorm · 27/10/2024 21:38

It's awful, I hate it. It's adding nothing to my use of the site and making it worse. Please get rid. Nobody likes this feature.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 27/10/2024 21:41

I’m accidentally swiping too, it was only seeing this thread that I even realised I was swiping, I just thought new threads were randomly loading!

Ohnonina · 27/10/2024 21:56

Yep, it's annoying me too, and no I can't do a screen recording mnhq, I have no idea how!

Nameinspirationneeded · 28/10/2024 10:16

just seen this to find out what this is. Annoying feature that I have no need for.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2024 10:29

Yeah. God knows why MNHQ were 'excited' to announce something so useless! 🤷‍♀️

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 29/10/2024 04:32

I'm using Chrome on an Android device too, and there's no point in sending a screen recording because it's doing exactly what you want it to do, which is load another thread, so you know what it will look like. We're telling you we don't want it to do that, especially when we haven't actually swiped left.

I'm no longer using Mumsnet unless I'm sat bolt upright, if I'm lounging around or in bed I've got no hope of scrolling at the correct angle for this stupid feature and it swipes me to another unwanted thread instead. Annoying to the point of giving up.

LilyMumsnet · 29/10/2024 20:20

Hi all

We've released a fix for the zooming in on pictures issue. We'll continue to keep an eye on all other feedback and do appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us.

WellHelloScottie · 29/10/2024 21:01

Thank you. That's definitely better on the thread gallery.

BlackOrangeFrog · 29/10/2024 21:38

I don't even get the swipe left thing

kitteninabasket · 31/10/2024 21:31

I hate this feature! Every time I try to copy some text to quote someone it swipes to another thread. Arghhh.

Ohnonina · 01/11/2024 10:18

I don't understand why you haven't scrapped this MNHQ? Everyone hates it and some posters have said it's making the site unusable for them so I don't understand why you haven't ditched the idea? Why keep something that's universally hated?

LemonySippet · 01/11/2024 23:36

This is the first time I've come to Site Stuff to query a problem, only to find out it's actually a 'feature' smh.

I am on android using Samsung Internet, and the site thinks I am swiping to the next thread because I am comfortably scrolling with my left thumb from the bottom right of the screen towards the top left. I use a popsocket to hold my phone so this movement is easy and comfortable. When I hit back, it doesn't take me back to the thread I was reading, but to the menu of whichever section of the forum I was in.

This is increasingly a feature of news sites etc and it is so frustrating that I will immediately close them off, the same with mumsnet. I'm not going to spend my time trying to engage with a thread only to lose my place and be unable to find the thread again, let alone my place in it.

This feature is making the site unusable.

Tittat50 · 01/11/2024 23:42

Is this why I keep getting thrown off a new thread and then I can't find it again?

Every single poster on here has said they don't like it. Why won't it be changed. I don't understand that.

Increases page hits - even if they're unintentional and unwanted.

More hits = sell more ads = more revenue. Who cares if the numbers aren't real.

This is probably it, and the fact that @BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet @LilyMumsnet aren't responding to the many posts on this thread with genuine explanations why this is rendering the site unusable speaks volumes.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 06/11/2024 09:43

Just chiming in again to say please can we get an option to turn this off. I've basically given up on using Mumsnet on my mobile, it's so irritating.
