Why aren’t you banning the far-right agitators?

Deleting their posts but allowing them to keep inciting racial hatred under the same accounts is making the site unusable. Why should we keep reporting them if you’re not going to do anything meaningful about it?

Are you talking about far right posts, or is it just that an honest analysis of the problems we are currently facing makes you uncomfortable? Fwiw, I was at the Southport vigil last night totally oblivious to the fact that a man carrying a knife and a balaclava was being arrested just around the corner. The horrifying Southend riot last night was far worse but we seem to be concentrating on the one with white perpetrators.

That's not true.

The week before last I reported a post that was racist. I got a reply from a staff member at MN saying they've checked it over and it all looks ok! I honestly couldn't believe their response.
I had to reply back quoting MN's own terms of service and their chat rules to specify and prove that their rules had been broken. Luckily, it seemed like I wasn't the only person who reported it and in the end it did get taken down.
I have no faith in the moderator team after that.

This has happened to me too about race, and also other hate posts.

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 12:00

The likes of Farage and Anderson focussed on Southend rather than condemning the EDL thugs in Southport

CassieMaddox · 31/07/2024 12:01

The problem is it eventually is going to drive away all the more moderate posters and just leave the extremes. Some of what I read on here makes me feel physically ill and I am getting to the point where I think I'm part of the problem by posting.

When the community that was here is destroyed we will all suffer.

Begsthequestion · 31/07/2024 12:01

They're even on this thread.

GoldMedallist · 31/07/2024 12:04

We can all only do our best. If it threatens my peace of mind I’ll watch the Olympics or go outside and count butterflies instead.

I don't think.she should be ashamed at all. MNHQ are being run ragged with reports and deletions which rather suggests OP made a very good point.

Is the EDL [who were in action last night in Southport] not 'far right'?

The rioting started some time later around Hart St away from the peaceful vigil you say you attended

Of course the EDL is far right, but I don't think it's the point of this thread. Do you want to reread my post? I never mentioned where the riot was (outside the mosque I believe) - I said that a knifeman was arrested round the corner from us at the vigil. I genuinely think it often doesn't matter what's said, some people just have an argument based on what they imagine their opponents might say.

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 12:33

So what do you mean with

The horrifying Southend riot last night was far worse but we seem to be concentrating on the one with white perpetrators.

Excuse me? Misinformation? I was literally there last night, I stood at the vigil, I didn't know about yhe knifeman arrested so close to us and didn't even believe it at first, and I was down by Ocean Plaza when I saw smoke billowing from the direction of Lord Street and a helicopter flying round. And someone has the absolute NERVE to say 'just ignore them. Misinformation'. It's beyond a joke.

Can you provide evidence that this is true?

@Alltheprettyseahorses

I'm talking about what's being shown on news channels' platforms which is what most people see. I have no idea what Farage or Anderson might be saying, I have them blocked on social media.

It depends what you class as ‘far right’

’Far right’ to some are actually just centre or just right of centre. The term has been so much as an insult to shut people down from having differing opinions it doesn’t actually mean what it used to.

Concerned about immigration - ‘far right’
Concerned about the effect of transgender issues - ‘far right’
Concerns about terrorism ‘far right’
Not gushing about Labour ‘far right’
Voting conservative ‘far right’
Not voting Librals ‘far right’
Not marching for Palastine ‘far right’

If there is a blatant racist post then it usually gets nipped in the bud sharpish but the vast vast majority of posts are from people with genuine points - yet other people don’t like them being discussed.

I think you're stretching the definition of genuine there.

What? I have not had a post deleted. My first post on this thread was at 10.52, it is still there.

A man, from Wigan, not a local , was arrested with a flick knife near the mosque. EDL immediately claimed he had a machete and was Muslim. This is not true/ unlikely to be the case.

I got my information from being there?! I can't exactly link standing looking at the smoke last night can I, or the people we were talking to on the train. I do have a lovely picture of the sun going down last night looking towards the pier if you want proof I was there. I have a receipt for my walrus pass too, I could photograph that. FFS!

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2024 12:44

But your implication that it's a Muslim comes from where??

I meant re the man with the knife that you were unaware of

I never said it was. What is wrong is to weaponise it for stoking division. No.pun intended.

How many EDL thugs were carrying do you suppose?
