Why do you allow people to attack and ridicule Christianity?

Time and time again I see people taking the absolute piss out of Christianity. Calling people delusional and saying it's made up bullshit etc. why do you allow this? I don't see this about any other religion.

It goes far beyond atheism and you claim to be against hate speech.

You’re completely right. I think because it’s seen as a ‘white’ religion linked to life in the uk, so it’s ok to mock. People would be scared of being seen as racist to mock others.

depends who you are really. A large section of the population freely mock Islam all the time irl and online - and partly because it’s associated with brown and black people. They don’t care if anyone thinks they’re racist.

Islamophobia (and racism) is a big issue in this country. I sometimes wear a headscarf as a fashion accessory and at times I’ve been mistaken for a Muslim especially if I’ve been walking with Asian people .

As a result I’ve had all sorts from hostile looks in the street, to people in agency workplaces starting hostile discussions with me about the rise of Muslim extremism right down to having “ISIS” screamed at me in the supermarket.

My former flatmate (who is actually Jewish) was wearing a headscarf/turban and suspects some cretin assumed she was Muslim when they spat on her from a flat window while she was standing waiting for a bus . It was gross 🤢 the police came to the house to take a sample of the dried up saliva in case it was on the DNA database.

No - it’s not a typo . It’s an attempt to compare an ancient religion with Star Wars . It’s a piss take.

So passage of time legitimises belief systems then?

BansheesOfEdSheeran · 20/07/2024 23:15

There's as much evidence for either. Why shouldn't they be compared?

Judaism is linked to ethnicity, even if you're atheist, that's why.

So you don't separate the ethnicity from the belief system? Do ethnic Jews have to follow the religion? Do they not have any say in the matter?

Why shouldn’t they be compared?

No reason at all why you wouldn’t compare Judaism to an invented 20th century religion

a) rudeness ?
b) anti semitism?
c) ignorance ?

No we don't have to follow it, and yes we do have a say in the matter. However, Jewish ethnicity is strongly linked to the religion through family, culture, heritage, customs and a very long history of persecution, so I'd suggest comparing it to Jedi'ism is both flippant and offensive. And given that you actually had to ask these questions suggest that you don't know what you're talking about and are therefore in no position to make such a crude and ridiculous comparison, as PP said.

And there is the shutting down of argument that we were all talking about...

Reminds me of, IIRC Dawkins, who says something along the lines of "xxx number of human gods, and the only difference between me and the most devout Christian is I believe in one fewer than they do".

Trope? You were the one saying that nobody should be allowed to comment because it upset you. Take a look in the mirror...

I said absolutely nothing of the sort but you clearly aren't someone to be taken seriously so I'll leave you to it😂

@Singersong The Lord God Almighty, the Creator of all, my Lord Jesus is above all the mudslinging and name-calling and lie-telling and truth-twisting. We are warned that we live in an age where this happens and it will get worse. Those who do it and those who mock Him will one day have to answer for their words and actions. That's good enough for me for it all to be water off this Christian's duck's back and for me not to be lead astray by any 'piss-taking'.

BansheesOfEdSheeran · 21/07/2024 01:15

Funny. It's inconceivable for anyone to be rude when it's about your pet subject, but suddenly it's fine to be rude about other people when it's not you.

I think the word is "hypocrisy"...

pikkumyy77 · 20/07/2024 23:16

The fact that you think Christianity is seen as a white religion says a lot about you.

Eh?
I didn't say that 'christianity is a white religion', because it isn't!
I simply said not to confuse race with religion.
It might help to actually read the words.

That's just an elaborate story, like all the other stories about mythical gods - what makes you think your version of a god is more real than any other version?

You being speechless does not make @BansheesOfEdSheeran an idiot.

Oh come on! All religions have cultural links, Judaism more so than most admittedly, but it doesn't make Judaism off limits. You can't just give a religion special status, no matter how persecuted our ancestors were.

Werweisswohin · 21/07/2024 07:31

Any religion or belief system must be open to questioning. It's unrealistic to say any religion or belief system should be immune.

In terms of judaism specifically, questioning the belief system itself definitely isn't anti-semitic.

Treating someone in an inferior way simply because they follow judaism would be anti-semitic.

The same applies to islam.

(Does anyone also not think it odd than many religions see women as inferior to men?)
