iPad safari- MN not clickable

Hi @MNHQ

I don’t know if it’s my iPad but the last couple of days, MN just freezes on this. It comes up but then I can’t click on anything.

everything else is fine on the iPad. Wonder if anyone else is having this. Using the website not the app.

thank you

I’ve just deleted my cookies. It’s just ground to a halt. It’s on 25 posts.
i, off to do something else because its really frustrating that it’s not even bouncing back now.

WhereIsTheHare · 07/08/2024 18:28

I’m still suffering the same way - I can use Mumsnet, slowly, by waiting for the requested to open for as long as it takes, but I have to close the tab and close Safari entirely before I can open any other website after using MN. If I click on a link to another website in an MN post, that won’t open either. I’m convinced this is caused by some cookie on MN. Every other website and combination of tabs works absolutely normally, except after using MN, when I can’t do anything at all without closing everything first.

Tworedgeraniums · 08/08/2024 15:04

I’ve worked it out. It’s the Advestisemnts below the Trending list. Until the ad shows/or changes to the next ad it freezes.

as soon as the next ad/page of ad show it then allows the screen to scroll or load a post etc.

so I am forced to watch the ad basically.

I don't have an issue on my ipad but I do have some form of ad blocker I think. God knows what as I see plenty of ads but every now and then I get something asking me to stop using an adblocker which I ignore.

Thanks to your post I’ve just worked out this is what’s causing the issue for me too. It’s currently an advert for Mumsnet Voices on the right side of the website on my iPad. It’s taking ages to load and I can’t scroll down any threads until it has loaded.

AShortName · 09/08/2024 16:40

It's always ads!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/08/2024 17:06

AShortName · 09/08/2024 16:40

It's always ads!

And they wonder why people have ad blockers. If they weren't so intrusive and didn't make using the site impossible, people wouldn't have to (see also: Reach newspapers; their websites are worse than MN for bloody ads)!

EmeraldRoulette · 09/08/2024 21:30

So confused
not seeing the ads mentioned here?
no ad blocker

now using private mode on iPhone only

means I'm here less but not going to raise it again as that’s probably a good thing 😂

meanwhile, every other website I use runs very well.

I’m having issues again. Anyone else?

AShortName · 19/08/2024 07:26

Yes. It has been better for a while, but yesterday was worse than ever (only checked threads I'm on this morning)

goldsequin · 19/08/2024 07:49

Mine never got better - and I logged out, cleared cookies etc. Still having to wait for the advert to load before I can scroll down and read a post, bookmarks are not working properly so I’m having to scroll and find the bookmark.

ProfessorPeppy · 19/08/2024 07:53

@mnhq

Still terrible here. I use the app now but that means I can’t see who’s replied to me/thanked me.

(iPhone 12/safari)

KatherineSiena · 19/08/2024 08:28

I have been avoiding Safari to access mumsnet and had been using Chrome which was slow but usable. Chrome is now freezing repeatedly.

As I said previously I’m only having this problem on my iPad not my iPhone.

Snowflake760 · 19/08/2024 08:40

Same here, ipad mini, latest OS and it’s unusable. I now use chrome (mn is the only site I have to do this with )

ShikShakShok · 19/08/2024 09:05

I only use my iPhone and have this issue on my phone.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/08/2024 09:20

Both safari and chrome still unusable for me. Glitchy, hangs, need to reopen etc.

The MN app is ok, but I don't get the same functionality as safari so don't like it.

The only thing that is useable is desktop on my windows laptop which is not ideal when I'd like to have an evening daunder about MN on the ipad in the evening while dh watches opal/gold/lobster hunters (or some other crap) on TV!

notimagain · 21/08/2024 13:10

Repeat episode again.

I have been going along OK for maybe a month plus since the last time around but this AM pretty much out of the blue safari/iPad hanging again, on this site only…

The initial frame of text associated with a selected MN topic loads up ok but then the whole thing freezes up for sometimes minutes on end, looks to be associated with the adverts loading..

Deleting all history in Safari seems to have cleared it again….for now.

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/08/2024 13:25

Hello, everyone. We appreciate your patience as we continue efforts to find the cause of this issue. If anyone can help with any of the following, that would be very useful to us:

1: Please share links to specific threads where the issue is happening

2: We want to identify if this is geo-specific problem and so knowing your location would be useful. That doesn't mean we want to know exactly where you live so don't worry! But if you feel comfortable sending us an email with your location (e.g Manchester) then please do so.

3: We're also interested in what privacy consent state you are using on Mumsnet? You can check this by going to: 'privacy settings' in the footer of the Mumsnet website > consent pop-up appears. What have you pressed here? Accept and close or Reject all?

4: Those on iPhone or iPad, do you have 'private relay' turned on? You can check this by going to: device settings > [your name] > iCloud. It will say here if it is turned on.

Thanks again and our apologies for the time it's taking us here. It's a bit more complicated than we first anticipated.

goldsequin · 29/08/2024 07:21

I’ve just had the issue on the Christmas bargains thread.

Firstly it opened up to a place in the thread many posts before my bookmark.

Then the page froze for 30 seconds or so while the advert loaded, so I was unable to scroll at all.

When the Specsavers advert appeared I could then scroll to find my bookmark and carry on reading.

It’s definitely linked to these adverts at the side of the page (safari on iPad).

I’m in the UK (Wales)

I rejected all when the privacy pop up last appeared (as I always do).

Private relay is off.

LilyMumsnet · 29/08/2024 11:23

Thanks so much @goldsequin - that's really helpful.
If anyone else can provide this information, please do email us or if you're comfortable posting it, that's fine too.

ShikShakShok · 30/08/2024 02:09

I’m in London.

It happens as soon as I open the MN home page. If not, will happen on the next page when I open a thread.

I “accept all”.

I don’t have privacy relay on.

HebeMumsnet · 16/09/2024 09:58

Morning everyone. We're still trying to find a fix for this problem. We wondered if anyone would be available during the day and happy to take a quick call from our Tech team and share your screen with them so they can see what's happening here.

If you'd be willing to do that, please drop us a message here and we'll be in contact off the boards to arrange a convenient time.
