Why did the "Lisa Johnson One to Many" thread get deleted?

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 19/03/2024 18:26

I've seen the deletion message but don't understand why the comments that broke talk guidelines couldn't have been deleted and the rest of the thread left to stand.

Lisa Johnson claims that she had it removed because she put pressure on MN to do so.

Can anyone from MNHQ clarify please?

I've been part of her world on and off for years. Well before she made her first million. And in the thread that was deleted I praised what she'd achieved and said she sounded lovely (my opinion is changing).

But I also spoke out about the things that I didn't like. Because she's not perfect. No one is. And that's fine because we can learn and grow by accepting criticisms about our business.

But there is a problem when you're surrounded by people who only say how amazing you are. Because then it becomes an echo chamber. Everyone gets outraged on her behalf without even knowing the whole story. Which ironically is exactly what she tells people not to do when she sees something negative written about her, and sees other people join in. So when she posted that the thread was sexist (it absolutely 100% was NOT sexist), all her fans jump on saying how awful it is, how amazing she is, etc etc etc. But she wasn't telling the truth. The thread did have name calling which I don't agree with, but it was absolutely not sexist.

I'll be honest, I daren't disagree with her in her group when I think she's out of line. Because I've seen other people's comments deleted and then you never see them again. Someone was blocked for asking what was a very good question, because either Lisa or an admin didn't like it. What does it say about someone when you're too scared to disagree with them? I know I'm not alone because I've had the discussion with other people who are part of her world.

So anyway I came to say that you saying that people who are commenting aren't part of Lisa's world is incorrect.

Just curious - If you daren't disagree with her in her group why are you still in there? Do you still get value?

Hi all. We appreciate the frustration you all feel at this deletion. MNers sharing their good and bad experiences of a business or service is something we know people find very useful (and is of course part of why Mumsnet came about). We won't delete a thread just because a business or individual asks us to, and, when a libel complaint is made, we follow processes in accordance with the Defamation Act, which offers posters the option to stand by their comments or have them removed.

In all things, our Talk guidelines still apply, and, unfortunately, we had justifiable concerns about the thread as it continued, not least due to the amount of sockpuppeting going on. (Meanwhile, posters not actually sockying were accused on the thread). We also felt it ventured beyond constructive criticism and more towards a personal attack as things appeared to escalate on other social media sites.

You're most welcome to share your opinions on Mumsnet provided our Talk guidelines are followed.

If you've any further questions, do let us know.

We won't delete a thread just because a business or individual asks us to

Can I just ask about the attached thread deletion then? It was around a week ago I think?

Agreed when there is truth and reason in what someone is saying.

If it students were on here commenting saying they had a bad experience Lisa would reach out to those students / clients act on that and make changes that were needed

but the people commenting on this thread aren’t students or clients and aren’t even part of her world

So how can people pass comments on something they’ve never been part of?

@Carab13 Did you see the original thread? The OP asked a very reasonable question. She had bought OTM. She actually said she hoped that Lisa would reach out to her and put her mind at rest. She tried to reach out to Lisa but instead Lisa blocked her! The OP was nothing but polite.

BeMorePositive · 21/03/2024 18:53

This reply has been deleted

This message has been withdrawn at the poster's request

But it’s not a lie. At the point the refund was made, there was no reason why Lisa had to refund her. The OP had not requested a refund at that point.

That's because the OP requested the deletion.

Sorry I’m confused ….. the OP posted on MN. AFTER she’d bought and paid for the course. Was Lisa supposed to telepathically know, and reach out? Besides, she specifically wanted feedback from a separate platform, and specifically asked if there were people on MN who had done OTM who could give her feedback.

NimbleRaven · 21/03/2024 18:50

@NimbleRaven Yes, there's a lot of value. I have never said that there wasn't and as I said in the last thread, I admire what she has achieved. Most of the value in the group is from the community itself, the questions asked and the friendships formed. I don't think Lisa posts that much in the group, relatively.

Yup, she posted after she bought OTM.
Nope Lisa wasn't supposed to telepathically reach out.
The OP was certain that Lisa had figured out who she was because her name had been visible on MN. It turns out she was right. She posted a screenshot of the message Lisa sent her before blocking her.
Yep she asked feedback from a separate platform because she got spooked that all the people saying how amazing Lisa was seemed too close to Lisa. Lisa advises to do due diligence. That's what she was doing.
Hope that clears up your...confusion. Perhaps only people who were part of/have thoroughly read the original thread should comment to avoid too much repetition and assumptions.

The OP of any thread can request its deletion.

Threads don't get deleted by MNHQ because other people request their deletion.

GiddyGoldHam · 21/03/2024 19:06

Why?

Just curious …. Don’t feel you need to respond if you think it’s too personal a question. I’ve been asked quite a few questions on here and on the previous thread, so thought I’d ask one back. That’s all. Some people have even been asked how much they earn 😂

Doesn’t really. But won’t worry about it. I’ve been on both threads.

Maybe you mean about why she thought Lisa would reach out? Because Lisa knew who she was and she knew that Lisa was aware she'd asked the question because Lisa came onto MN and posted. Personally if it was my business I'd have reached out to the OP - even if she hadn't parted with £2k 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't ask how much someone earns because it's none of my business! Feel free to ask me questions. However given that I have online friends who have been blocked in the group for having the audacity to disagree/speak up I'm sure you can understand why I don't want to mention the group. It might start a witch hunt.

ASighMadeOfStone · 21/03/2024 19:35

Sure no problem. I respect your opinion.

Carab13 · 21/03/2024 20:13

Ok you’ve discussed her business so you’ve got a personal experience have her business then and have completed or brought her courses?

Carab13 · 21/03/2024 20:18

How was Lisa supposed to reach out if the OP hadn’t expressed she had questions or worries?

if she’d had reached out to Lisa asking anything Lisa would have answered her

I know Lisa is good but telepathic she isn’t

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 21/03/2024 20:22

So anyway.

Reading through my downloaded copy of the thread (unfortunately only saved up to about lunchtime on March 17th), one of the early comments recommended this podcast:

Conspirituality: Coaches Coaching Coaches

The blurb is thus...

"Life coaching is big business. The life coaching industry was worth $1.5 billion in 2022 and is considered one of the fastest growing industries in America. The International Coaching Federation reported more than 26,000 coaches in North America in 2020. Yet those numbers are hard to qualify given that you don’t need certifications or training to become a life coach or, as we explore today, coaching of most any sort. Life coaches, business coaches, fertility coaches, “quantum” coaches: every industry has an increasing number of people who want to tell you how to do your job effectively, magically, or quantumally.

Who really benefits from this supposed gold rush of “MULTI 6 FIGURE BUSINESS COACH”, “Multi 8 fig biz mentor”, and “high ticket biz coach helping women scale to 20-30k months”? And has the dilution of the term "coach" damaged credentialed coaches with decades of experience?

Mallory DeMille returns to talk about the coaches who coach coaches industry: marketing tactics, parallels to multilevel marketing, and the glut in the coaching industry."

I'm going to listen to it tomorrow whilst working (at my actual business where I make an actual product). It sounds like it covers a lot of the same ground as this thread and it's predecessor!
