Why did the "Lisa Johnson One to Many" thread get deleted?

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 19/03/2024 18:26

I've seen the deletion message but don't understand why the comments that broke talk guidelines couldn't have been deleted and the rest of the thread left to stand.

Lisa Johnson claims that she had it removed because she put pressure on MN to do so.

Can anyone from MNHQ clarify please?

Thanks Mumsnet!

Anyway, in answer to the question about who is sending the most recent libel messages to MNHQ, it just says "a representative of Lisa Johnson".

ThereIbledit · 27/03/2024 17:05

I think Lisa is legally trained. I don't know the details of what/what level etc, but I don't think she would make a mistake over what counts as defamation, libel or anything else.

That is all.

(I follow her social media and I like her. I'm neither an affiliate nor a sock puppet).

She did a distance Law degree. She's never practised law.

That's what I meant by legally trained

She herself said recently that she practiced family law "not for very long."

Even if something's not true, the libel claim only succeeds if they can show it did "serious harm" to their reputation.

60 people signed up due to the thread vs far fewer people saying they wouldn't sign up (3 or 4 maybe?) doesn't seem like serious harm?

Someone has sent me a copy of a FB live that she did today where she says that because of the thread someone went to her website and booked a 1 to 1 with her. Doesn't sound as though it's doing harm to her reputation, along with the other 60 people she claimed signed up to OTM from the thread. By my reckoning, according to Lisa Johnson herself, her business is up by £130k

IncompleteSenten · 27/03/2024 17:36

Can you email me a copy of that please?

OriginalOP · 27/03/2024 17:42

Hey everyone. I also got the email. I've spoken to a lawyer who specialises in defamation (got the contract via a barrister friend who highly recommended them, they specialise in media law) and I'm wondering about us doing a group action/response?

I see there an email set up already by another poster, but that might not be safe to use to connect us all as it's been posted on here. Would you all be interested in a WhatsApp or something to connect? We could send a copy of your Mumsnet email to get in/prove who we are.

If you all PM me I can look at connecting us.

Don't worry too much about the five day thing, that's a timescale re Mumsnet providing details (so no idea why I got one given LJ has my details) but legally there are further discussions to be had to reach a resolution/ending, and there are various options.

GiddyGoldHam · 27/03/2024 17:43

I also have an email threatening libel. I've asked for the post to be removed because quite frankly I don't have time. However I will repost what I wrote minus the "libellous" parts and also minus the very positive things I said about her on that post.

And then I'm going to go through all my screenshots and videos, post the "libellous" facts again so that everyone can see them, along with the relevant screenshots and videos.

For those of you fighting it, I am sending massive hugs and I will email everything I have.

That sounds great. I think we should make best use of our collective resources to challenge this.

Geebray · 27/03/2024 18:02

I'll be honest, I don't want to get involved with tiresome legal proceedings. But more power to those of you who do! 👊

I will, however, be happy to keep posting facts on any threads that appear about Lisa Johnson in the future.

It would be a lawyer's letter in response, rather than proceedings. Pm me if you want to know more, no obligation obviously! But the more of us there are, the cheaper it is.
My lawyer is working this evening because media law never sleeps, so I can check in with him if we need more information.

MrsGalloway · 27/03/2024 18:40

Wow! I’ve no skin in the game here but this thread is eye opening (and I don’t mean by that that I’m influenced not to buy anything) but it’s a masterclass in how not to deal with negativity as a business . I really hope this isn’t deleted and I’m sorry for the posters who’ve been threatened with libel actions, unjustified as far as I can tell.

GiddyGoldHam · 27/03/2024 18:40

There is a Reddit thread now as well. Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to the thread here. The Reddit OP was basically asking the same question that started all this off - for independent reviews of OTM. Someone posted "I actually asked the question in the fb group and feel a bit vilainised as the question got totally rinsed and the comments have been turned off!"
As a fact, I've been accused of libel by Lisa Johnson for saying that posts she doesn't like are deleted.

GiddyGoldHam · 27/03/2024 18:48

I was sent a screenshot today. Someone in Lisa's world saying that that they got referring traffic to their website from people Googling "Lisa Johnson Mumsnet." And yet when I Google "Lisa Johnson Mumsnet" I don't see anything that could be someone's business site and definitely not the name of the person who posted the comment. I'll leave you all to form your own opinions....

Shroedy · 27/03/2024 18:50

As a lawyer I would strongly recommend you take the discussion of the libel threats and response off of a public forum. Libel is incredibly hard and expensive to actually litigate so bully boy tactics are the way to go. If you keep discussing this here then you're giving her legal team a roadmap as to how to best accomplish that strategy. As suggested, find a way to take it offline (making sure you're 100% confident of who you're letting in) and keep it private.

Very good advice, I think.
Let's stick to discussing LJ and OTM, not the threats.

IncompleteSenten · 27/03/2024 19:49

Agreed. We are separating the two and it's best to not comment publicly again.

Just a helpful word of advice. 14 day cooling off periods don't apply when its business to business. Only when it's business to consumer. In the case of OTM it's sold business to business. I had a situation years ago when I signed up to Yell and I changed my mind within 24 hours but couldn't cancel as it was a business to business contract.

Also with digital products and courses if you log in and access the content, bonuses etc you are not entitled to a full refund.

When it comes to digital products and courses it's not that black and white when it comes to the distance selling regs. Don't want for you to get caught out x

I don't think that's right. The blurb for her course says it is sold to "entrepreneurs", as well as businesses.

And if it were only sold to "businesses", then why would this paragraph appear in the One To Many Terms & Conditions?

3.4 The Client understands and accepts that engagement in the Programme and acceptance of the Services is not a substitute for counselling or other therapy services. In the event that the Client is currently undergoing medical or other professional help concerning their mental health then the Client should inform their practitioner of the existence of this Agreement and the extent of the Services being provided and inform the Consultant if appropriate and relevant.

Thank you for the update all. Sorry to hear the news. I can’t say I’m terribly surprised. I’m pleased her response to this thread is documented for the future so others can decide if they want to work with someone who behaves like that.

I’ll make it clear that neither thread as a whole persuaded me not to buy. The vibe in RRR decided that for me, and Lisa Johnson’s responses solidified I wouldn’t engage in her world.

Geebray · 27/03/2024 20:40

Wait a minute, just found the 2023 One To Many T&Cs.

*5. Refunds

No refund policy shall apply to the programme. Should you choose not to continue to the end for any reason full payment will still be required.

Whilst you warrant that you are entering into this agreement solely for business purposes in the unlikely event that you are deemed a ‘consumer’ you have the right to cancel this contract within 14 days. Should you wish to cancel you must inform us of your decision to cancel by a clear statement using the contact details provided.

If you agree for us to start providing the services during the cancellation period and coaching commences you then lose your right to cancel and will be required to pay the full price under this contract even if the cancellation period has not expired.

This does not affect your statutory rights, but once the Programme has started, if you decide to withdraw at any time for any reason whatsoever, for the avoidance of any doubt you still will remain fully responsible for the full cost of the Program, and no refund will be provided.

And there it is, in black and white @HappyScroller - it's coaching!

Geebray · 27/03/2024 20:52

Aha ha ha ha. Calling @HappyScroller - Lisa Johnson is a coach.

You acknowledge that I am supporting you in my role exclusively as a Coach providing development and coaching for business, inspirational and informational purposes only. I do not provide medical, financial or legal advice.
