Dear Mumsnet please could we have a 'Larger Families' section?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 13/03/2008 20:31

rather like the 'multiples' section

it could be for 4+ children maybe and we can all get together and discuss how to run home soup kitchens/chinese laundry and whether or not Nick Leeson had the right idea for how to finance our broods?

I have mooted it before and people seem quite keen - it is different having a lot of children and it helps to have support

Thanks !

I ended up with severe endometriosis after having DS2, and then needed surgery to laser it our, take away my fibriods I was also discovered to have, sort out a cervical erosion, and other things (I was a wee mess inside), and then they put in a mirena coil.

not looked back since.....few initial probs with the hormones settling in, but otherwise very little in the way of periods now (well, there would be, only DD1 is in the midst of starting her periods and her hormones are sending me crazy), and no recurrence of the PCOS.

I am however miffed that DH had the snip, yet I also ended up with a coil after not wanting it for so long!

Peachy · 21/03/2008 21:06

Can i join in slightly prematurely?

have ds1, 8; ds2, 7; ds3, 4.5; ds4 sue a week Sunday

DS1 was very planned but we'd only been together a few months- 3 in fact, though already engaged. DH wanted a baby and he ahdan endowment due, I told him it was a baby or a sports car and the rest is history LOL!. DS2 also planned, when ds1 was 5 months- had lots of problems with ds1 and figured I'd be better off having a sibling whilst I was yiounger if I was goin g to ahev that all again..... and after that PG was OK we had ds3. This one took quite a while to conceive though and will be our last. Seems a fairly small family to me, Dad was one of 16.

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 21:07

PYBF - I put weight on, for no reason (diet and everything the same), but no other symptoms. Had blood tests, and a scan and found cysts on both ovaries. At 12 wk scan with ds3 they had gone!

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 21:08

hey peachy. I never thanked you for sending me all the bibic stuff......belated HUGE thanks now, and wow........baby due so soon.

MY dad was one of 13, so yes, after that hugeness, 4 or 5 is positively diddy

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 21:08

Peachy 16!

PYBF - am I right in thinking you are married to a vet?

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 21:11

actually, I lie.....they did do cysts too while I was under......DH remembered rather than me, which is unusual!

I did have a weight issue for a while there, altho not huge. I went from a sz8/10 to a big 12. All back to normal now tho and back down to a sz 6/8 depending on shop.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 21/03/2008 21:11

oooh peachy you can be our first birth!

Ah Paula, I think I recognise you!

Divastrop · 21/03/2008 21:51

i have been sent here via the post-natal thread

i have;
ds1(10)
dd1(9)
ds2(4.8)
dd2(2.3)
and dd3(1 year)

only dd3 was 'planned'(officially),ds1 and dd2 were 'it'll be fine, ive just come off my period'(its taken me 10 years to figure out i ovulate about 3-4 days after my af ends, which explains the horrendous 2-3 weeks of pmt),ds2 was sort of planned whilst under the influence of alcohol and dd1 was a genuine 'how the f**k did that happen??'(i'd only gone to the dr's to get the pill cos we were fed up with condoms,ds1 was only 3 months old!).

i want to get steralised but i cant due to the nasty scar tissue left from my appendisectomy(sp?)so i have to make do with the coil.
my af was 2 days late this month and i was about ready to book myself into the nut house.

Hello folks - late to the fray but very keen to stick my nose in say hello

I have:

dd1 10
dd2 9
ds1 2.8
ds2 8months

How neat is that? Two girls, older and responsible (no really, I'm not joking) and two wee boys almost exactly two years apart! They are all lovely and all get on pretty well (a bit of sniping between the dds but a lot of that is hormonal!)

Amazingly, all planned, ds2 took a little longer to conceive than I wanted, but otherwise we got exactly what we were after (2, a gap, then another 2). Definitely finished now though!

TooTicky · 21/03/2008 22:51

I have four dcs
Keen to pick up tips on instilling harmony/minimising bloodshed....

snorris · 21/03/2008 22:53

Another latecomer
I have four dd's aged 12,4,4 and 2 (yes twins there ).

kittywise · 22/03/2008 08:14

Hello Diva and to everyone else]smile]

All mine were planned actually, but between the six successful pgs in 8 years I also had 6 m/c's so all in all I have been constantly pg since 1998!

Psychomum5 · 22/03/2008 09:40

how many larger families do we have now then?????

are we enough to do a march for the new sections

ladytophamhatt · 22/03/2008 09:48

oh, I didn't realise we're doing ages...

Ds1 is 8
Ds2 is 6
Ds3 is 4
Ds4 is 15 months.

Still trying to get my head around not having more as Dh has been a shit by wanting another one, so I agreed, then he changed his mind after 5 days of trying.
Leaving me in broody limbo-ness.....I'm not happy because HE changed my mind to wanting another in the 1st place.

Psychomum5 · 22/03/2008 09:54

ah but only a woman has the perogative (sp?) to change her mind!!!!!!

sooooooo........get thee back to bed and tell him straight that he is to go forth and re-multiply with you again!!!!

ladytophamhatt · 22/03/2008 10:14

I've told him that he's really bloody mean doing it.

I said its like me promising him a blow job every night then just as I'm about to...I'll just leave him there - standing to attention, with no audience night after night after night.

TBh, it has put a wedge between us. I hate the fact that he has this huge say over what I want or can do with this aspect my life while I seem to have no say whatsoever. I know its a joint descision but he wanted another one first!!!

liahgen · 22/03/2008 10:23

blimey, I stay off the computer for one evening, and it fills up.

Harman, yes I live in Maidstone...oh god do you know me??

Well, I was also told at about 20 that my chances of conceiving naturally were virtually nil, due to endemetriosis,(sp) had lots investigations, laparoscopys etc, the just tried to not think about it.

Met 1st H (no D there!!) and he wooed me by telling me he would sell his sports car to pay for IVF. Year later, I fell pg naturally, and he told me, get rid of it, or I'm leaving,,,(yes, nice guy)
Obviously, dd was born 9 mths and 18 days late!!
Like a sucker, took him back, kind of, he got sent to prison, (refer to nice guy statement)told him, if we were going to get back together, then I really couldn't see me living with just one child, ds appeared 9mths later. (doctors really know what they're talking about round here)

Couple years later, eventually found the strength to kick him out, it's amazing what you find out after you've had enough eh? I think he must have had affairs with most of the slappers where we lived.

Met love of my life a year later, talked about what we wanted, having death threats, his car wrecked, etc and my 2 kids wasn't enough to put him off, so 4 mths in I was pg, after one cycle of trying.

ds is nearly 5. dd followed 21 mths later, dd 2years and a month after her.And just got green light yesterday to have my last!!!!(I had to promise not to want any more after that!!)

have had 3 angel babies too, one fairly late, 21 wks, 2 at 11wks.

My menfolk are out at footie practice at mo, bubs in bed, littlies playing, and me relaxing here. Ahhh
Oh yeah, I baked biscuits with littlies at 7am this morn, so am feeling all smug.

liahgen · 22/03/2008 10:24

oh, meant to say, I am a Doula, so definately will "doula " peachy through her birth.

When are you due? We'll get our knitting out.

Also, love the jelly idea.

kittywise · 22/03/2008 10:50

liahgen, I had doulas for all my vbacs, they were fantastic. I couldn't have done it without them.

LTH, that's really mean of your dh, I'm not surprised you're resentful. I don't think he should be able to do that.
Dp and are in the throws of working out how we can still live in the same house until we can sell it and live separatley.

I don't even know why I'm dreaming of no.7 it would be the immaculate conception

liahgen · 22/03/2008 10:55

Kittywise, you would have been able to do it. That is what a Doula is all about, you having the confidence to trust in yourself. I'm thrilled that you had positive experiences.

Kittywise, I think some women are just programmed to be mothers, I did promise dh I wouldn't want any more after the next one, but how can we prevent what is an instinctive feeling? It's impossible, as my 2 yr old would say!! Me and my X lived in the same flat for a year before I managed to get him to leave. It's a horrible situation.

LTH, I'm sure he'll change his mind back again, bit of gentle persuasion. Maybe have a real chat, tell him how hurt you feel.

If I disappear, got to do lunches for returning footballers.

ByTheSea · 22/03/2008 11:08

Can I scrape in too?

I have

DS-12
DS-11
DD-8
DD-5
