Dear Mumsnet please could we have a 'Larger Families' section?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 13/03/2008 20:31

rather like the 'multiples' section

it could be for 4+ children maybe and we can all get together and discuss how to run home soup kitchens/chinese laundry and whether or not Nick Leeson had the right idea for how to finance our broods?

I have mooted it before and people seem quite keen - it is different having a lot of children and it helps to have support

Thanks !

have ANY OF YOU FOUND THAT WITH EACH PG, WHEN YOU ANNOUNCE IT, YOU GET LESS CONGRATS THAN ..SAY, A FIRST OR SECOND TIMER.?

whoops sorry bout that.

I find that a bit sad, and I know only a couple of people will congratulate us, when we announce number 6.

That said, my 22yr old niece aspires to be like us, and wants 10!! (she has 2 so far, so a way to go yet. bless her. )

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 14/03/2008 22:51

Welcome to the 'OWLS' club

Mercy · 14/03/2008 22:52

There will be a ridiculous number of boards at this rate.

CarGirl · 14/03/2008 22:55

my family feels positively small

dd 11
dd 5
dd 4
dd 2

and a lovely dh too

NeverSayNever · 14/03/2008 22:56

Yes people do look a bit stunned when you announce you are PG yet again, but each one is so special and so different, it doesn't matter what they think. As long as you are happy and baby is wanted, I think it's great

suedonim · 14/03/2008 22:57

May I join in? Dh and I have four children.

Ds1, almost 33, married and lives in LA.

Ds2, 28, newly wed, lives in Scotland.

Dd1 20, lives in Scotland.

Dd2, 12 last week, lives here in Nigeria with us.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 14/03/2008 22:58

suedonim you may have a grand daughter or son within a few years?

liahgen · 14/03/2008 23:00

Nigeria, beautiful place.

Maidstone in March... not quite the same.

Tickle · 14/03/2008 23:03

My 'little' owlery is filled with:

dd1 9
ds1 7
dd2 nearly 4
ds2 2
+
me, DH and a whippet called Lettuce.

And yes - my mother thought I was mad when we announced no 4

NeverSayNever · 14/03/2008 23:03

Mercy, isn't this what mumsnets all about

liahgen · 14/03/2008 23:05

the owlets.. Ha, is that what young owls are called?

suedonim · 14/03/2008 23:07

PYBF, noooooooo!!!! I'm not ready for G-children!! It won't be ds1 just yet, he and his dw are both still studying. Ds2 and dw want to move house and make some career decisions first. But eventually, I dare say my DIL's will be here on MN complaining about their MIL.

liahgen · 14/03/2008 23:09

lol at complaining about mil.

my dh says he wants to be a right grumpy grandad. "don't touch that etc"

Don't think he will be though.

Mercy · 14/03/2008 23:12

Neversaynever, maybe.

I just feel that MN has so many boards now it's becoming quite splintered.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 14/03/2008 23:15

this board would add to mumsnet not detract

parenting a large number of children can be very different

we need support from those who can empathise - that is what this aims to do

Tiggiwinkle · 14/03/2008 23:17

I have:

Ds 26
Ds 25
Ds 19

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 14/03/2008 23:18

wow tiggiwinkle!!

lots of boys (men!) like me!

OP posts:
jes74 · 14/03/2008 23:19

can i join? have ds1 7
ds2 6
dd1 21months
ds3 15wks
dh 35 going on 3.5yrs
and me 33 and already broody for number5

NeverSayNever · 14/03/2008 23:21

Mercy, Dont think it's splintered, just different people, different views. Not so many of us with 'large!' families about now, so maybe give us a section!? where we all understand what others are experiencing.

We have lots of advice and experiences to offer, and it helps to know your not 'the only one'.

liahgen · 14/03/2008 23:21

where does it stop? When do you know you won't have, or don't want/need any more children?

I don't feel that way yet.

cupsoftea · 14/03/2008 23:23

I've five litle ones - would check this topic
