Dear Mumsnet please could we have a 'Larger Families' section?

rather like the 'multiples' section

it could be for 4+ children maybe and we can all get together and discuss how to run home soup kitchens/chinese laundry and whether or not Nick Leeson had the right idea for how to finance our broods?

I have mooted it before and people seem quite keen - it is different having a lot of children and it helps to have support

Thanks !

Keep squeezing paula, keep squeezing!

Do you think it would be a good idea if we swapped 'management/crowd control techniques'? I am forever on the hunt for new ideas

137wallis · 21/03/2008 16:20

Yes please need some new ideas would be great! The chains and understairs cuboard dont work anymore!

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 16:21

not does the baseball bat.......

137wallis · 21/03/2008 16:23

and the loud hailer wasnt loud enough!

kittywise · 21/03/2008 16:26

or the masking tape.
i find wax ear plugs and a loud volume on the radio works a treat .
I have actually now got really good at selective hearing. I am able to completely shut out noise next to me, including dp

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 16:42

I do that all the time too kitty trouble is dh reckons I never hear anything he says, and we have rows as he tells me he told me something and I can't remember hearing him say anything!

and my dad says he knows when we have arrived at his as he can hear the radio outside of the car as it is up so loud!

Spidermama · 21/03/2008 16:48

Wow I only just scrape in here.

dd 9
ds 8
ds 6
ds 3

It's great to know there are others with big families. I only know one other family around here with four.

magnolia74 · 21/03/2008 17:56

Well today I have NO KIDS

1st time in nearly 2 years that I will get a full nights sleep.

We have shipped them out in different directions, dd1 has gone to a friends, dd2 and dd4 are at dh's mums, dd3 is at dh's sisters and ds1 is at my mums. Its the first time I have been away from ds1 (he is 15 months) hoping my boobs are ok as he is still b/f. He has only ben gone an hour but missing him already

Dh is cooking dinner, we have beer and champayne and a pub down the road

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 17:57

altho lessfor the sore leeky boobs you may get

kittywise · 21/03/2008 18:00

magnolia have WONDERFUL time, get the alka seltzer ready, I shall be disappointed if you do not get happily pissed! And no talking about the kids all evening!

hello spidermama!!

liahgen · 21/03/2008 18:05

Hi all, Hope you enjoying Easter weekend. We have just done all our planting, and now littlies are playing Transformers in sitting room while dh is desperately trying to watch the footie.Bless him.

My 13 yr old spends hardly any time with us anymore, and if she does ,it normally means she has a friend or 2 in tow, so we could have anything from 4 to 7 at any one time.

She draws the line at going into town with us though, do any of you have that effect on your older kids. ?
Me and dh asked the younger ones, (including the 10yr old) if they would like a little brother or sister soon, and they all said yes, I was surprised. Eldest dd, says she will leave home...., we live in hope!!! (not really before I get slated)

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 18:25

I'm interested in this section too.

I have five:

DS1 - 16, about to do his GCSEs
DS2 - 14
DD1 - 11
DD2 - 8
DD3 - 6 in two weeks.

Isn't it cool that I had 2 boys followed by 3 girls? - very convenient for bedroom sharing etc.

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 18:33

scienceteacher

I had boy, girl, boy, boy (but almost 5 year gap!) girl

sorkycake · 21/03/2008 18:37

Ohhhhh!

I wanna join!

We're trying for no.4 so I might lurk until I'm pg again.

Mine are:
DD 5
Ds 4
Ds 1
Bean in the offing

I think this board is a fabulous idea

If there is a multiples board, there should def be a board on what to with them once they're not babies.

I have one friend who would qualify (she has 5) and she reckons it's great, but like herding cats most days

liahgen · 21/03/2008 18:39

sorky cake, maybe we could make you an honorary member??

(has quick AGM) any objections to sorky becoming honarary until she conceives?

scienceteacher.....you are the opposite of me, and almost similar ages too!!!

I had my girls first, followed by the boys, which I am not sure is the right way round as I always feel that the boys shoudl be the elder ones to look out for the little sisters

Slacker · 21/03/2008 18:48

I've got 5 now:

DS 13
DS 11
DS 7
DD 4
and littlest DS 6 weeks

Have had surprisingly few negative comments about number 5 actually. Also found there are three other families at our school with 5, not as uncommon as I thought

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 19:06

Hello Luce wheel

kittywise · 21/03/2008 19:07

I've got
ds1 9
ds2 8
dd1 6
dd2 4
dd3 2
ds3 nearly 1

Btw we are on the same postnatal group......not favouring anyone you understand!

sorkycake · 21/03/2008 19:21

Anyone seconding liaghen?

or is 'no objections' a temporary pass inside the board?

Psychomum5 · 21/03/2008 19:36

I donlt think sorky should be allowed....what if she gets put off by our ramblings and then backs out of having more, then blames us for preventing her from fulfilling her dreams, and in the meantime gets all our secrets and rats us out.....

eh, eh???????

(well, maybe she can join, if she starts right now with the trying)

sorkycake · 21/03/2008 19:42

This month is my first cycle trying for no.4

yeah right, like any of us here have to cross anything
