Mumsnet thread pages keep refreshing page to be on homepage (shopping adverts)

Hello

When I’m on Mumsnet talk threads, the pages keep refreshing to be on the Mumsnet homepage (endlessly advertising me things to buy). The same goes for if I close my browser or go to a different window and then reopen - all Mumsnet pages seem to automatically refresh to the homepage / shopping adverts.

Not sure I’ve explained that very clearly…

Is anyone else having the same issue?

This is still happening for me on iPhone on safari. Very frustrating

Lillygolightly · 24/02/2024 12:12

Yes still happening for me too, it feels like I am being spammed.

I don’t mind adverts and understand the site needs the ad revenue, all fine….but to be 8 pages into a 15 page thread and suddenly be kicked back to this advert page is really starting to make me boil.

Af first it would do this if I put my phone down a few minutes to say change a nappy, I want to pick up where I left off and I can’t because I’ve a page full of ads instead. Now it’s bloody doing while I’m on the thread and active.

Sorry mumsnet but this has been going on ages now, months and STILL isn’t sorted! I now spend about half the time here than I used to, which to fair is arguably a good thing for my productivity 🙈 but I’m sure it not the outcome you want. Please please sort it out, I used to come here to chill and instead I’m raging at being kicked bad to the advert page halfway through a thread.

WeirdButFuckingBeautiful · 24/02/2024 15:23

Yes, it is stopping me clicking on some threads cos I know if I want to google something and go back to the thread the thread has gone and I get an adverts landing page. Grrrr

Makemydaypunk · 24/02/2024 15:46

Why are they not anything about this it’s been months, so I can only presume it’s been deliberately set up that way now.

Hi all - while we've been so far unable to recreate this issue, we're continuing to investigate the cause and the following information is very useful:

1: a screen recording of the issue happening
2: device info
3: browser info

For some users, It could be a browser setting so if you're a Chrome user, please try the following and let us know if it solves the issue for you:

Open Chrome.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen
Select Settings
Scroll down and tap Advanced.
Tap Privacy and Security
Tap Site settings
Scroll down and tap Background sync
Toggle off the Allow background sync switch for the websites that you don't want to refresh automatically

Here are some additional tips:

You can also disable Chrome's Memory Saver feature to prevent tabs from being refreshed automatically. To do this, open Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, select Settings, scroll down, tap Performance, and then toggle off the Memory saver switch.

If you're experiencing issues with Chrome tabs refreshing automatically, you can try clearing Chrome's cache and data. To do this, open Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, select Settings, scroll down and tap Advanced, tap Clear browsing data, and then select the Clear cache and Clear data options.

If you're still having problems with Chrome tabs refreshing automatically, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome.

For Safari users:

Close all tabs and Safari app. Then try opening a new tab and see if they are having the same issue
Clear your Safari history and website data in Settings

Hello,

Can we check if you saw our post further up? We think it's worth a try:

@LilyMumsnet I have emailed it through, thanks

Thanks very much for sending the video, @DcatAnnie - we really appreciate it. We'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/03/2024 09:57

WHY is this happening again 😭😭😭? Come on Mumsnet, it’s been months! It stopped for me after Christmas (as predicted) but now it’s back. It makes the site unusable.

Flimpychunk · 24/03/2024 11:45

I’ve solved it - but only because I got a new phone! Not because of Mumsnet, obviously, but it being fixed is a nice bonus. Annoying it’s still ongoing for other though, it really impedes the experience of being on MN

HebeMumsnet · 25/03/2024 10:29

Sorry to hear it's back @Idratherbepaddleboarding .

Can we just check you spotted our message above about the issue? Will paste it here just in case.
