Mumsnet thread pages keep refreshing page to be on homepage (shopping adverts)

Hello

When I’m on Mumsnet talk threads, the pages keep refreshing to be on the Mumsnet homepage (endlessly advertising me things to buy). The same goes for if I close my browser or go to a different window and then reopen - all Mumsnet pages seem to automatically refresh to the homepage / shopping adverts.

Not sure I’ve explained that very clearly…

Is anyone else having the same issue?

LilyMumsnet · 16/11/2023 13:08

Hi OP

Are you possibly able to screen record this and send over to [email protected]m so we can take a look?

LilyMumsnet · 17/11/2023 15:35

Hi all

We're not currently able to replicate this.

Can we please ask you to clear your Mumsnet cache, and ask when this started happening? If anyone isn't on Safari, can you let us know what browser it is that you're using?

BeckyAMumsnet · 18/11/2023 17:29

Hi all - thanks for letting us know. We're still unable to recreate the issue so please bear with us while we figure out what is happening here. In the first instance, please clear your cache. If you need help with this, let us know. Also please tell us when it started happening along with your device and browser if you've not already told us.

Thank you.

Same here and came onto site stuff to see if others are having the same problem. I usually have a few threads open on tabs in the place I last left them so I can go back to easily later but then when I refresh the page it just reverts to the homepage.

We're really sorry about this. Can we just ask if you've cleared your Mumsnet cache?

HebeMumsnet · 27/11/2023 09:49

Morning, everyone. We're still trying to fix this we're afraid. Any further information is always useful though. If you haven't already, could you let us know if you have cleared your cache (that is worth doing if not), when the issue started for you and what device and browser you are using. Thank you Flowers

HebeMumsnet · 27/11/2023 12:13

If anyone is able to get a screen recording of this issue in action, and/or a link to the page it's happening on, that would also be really helpful.

LilyMumsnet · 07/12/2023 13:00

Hi everyone

Just to reassure you, we're still actively investigating this. Thanks so much to those who have sent screen recordings. They are extremely useful to us, especially since we haven't yet managed to replicate the issue (we have tried quite a few times).

We'll give you an update as soon as we can, thanks for your patience.

LilyMumsnet · 03/01/2024 15:48

Hi all

We don't have any updates at the moment, we're afraid. As soon as we do, we will let you know.

I’m just doing an advanced search on a specific username and it comes up with the results, I click on one of them and it takes me to their post on a thread - but when I arrow back it doesn’t take me to the other search results just a generic mumsnet page - so I have to hit Advanced Search and do the search again - EVERYTIME. I’m guessing it’s linked to the refresh issue everyone is going on about on this thread?

Hello!

It's really hard to know without seeing it - please could you send a screen recording over to [email protected] (referencing your post on this thread) and we'll take a look.

BeckyAMumsnet · 26/02/2024 16:41

Hi all - while we've been so far unable to recreate this issue, we're continuing to investigate the cause and the following information is very useful:

1: a screen recording of the issue happening
2: device info
3: browser info

For some users, It could be a browser setting so if you're a Chrome user, please try the following and let us know if it solves the issue for you:

Open Chrome.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen
Select Settings
Scroll down and tap Advanced.
Tap Privacy and Security
Tap Site settings
Scroll down and tap Background sync
Toggle off the Allow background sync switch for the websites that you don't want to refresh automatically

Here are some additional tips:

You can also disable Chrome's Memory Saver feature to prevent tabs from being refreshed automatically. To do this, open Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, select Settings, scroll down, tap Performance, and then toggle off the Memory saver switch.

If you're experiencing issues with Chrome tabs refreshing automatically, you can try clearing Chrome's cache and data. To do this, open Chrome, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen, select Settings, scroll down and tap Advanced, tap Clear browsing data, and then select the Clear cache and Clear data options.

If you're still having problems with Chrome tabs refreshing automatically, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome.

For Safari users:

Close all tabs and Safari app. Then try opening a new tab and see if they are having the same issue
Clear your Safari history and website data in Settings
