Pregnant people?! It's 'women'

BIWI · 19/09/2023 14:57

Two links to surveys today, from Kings College London and Cardiff University. Both surveys wanting to speak to 'pregnant people'.

It's women who get pregnant and give birth. Male members of our society are unable to conceive, grow and birth babies.

Please, please, please - why are you accepting these requests? Do you not read them first? (Especially seeing as you allow them to post their links for free).

I'm appalled that Mumsnet is now complicit in erasing the word 'woman'.

It's unbelievably sexist that women can't define themselves as women.

It's unbelievably sexist and homophobic for transwomen to declare they are lesbians.

It's unbelievably racist to compare the real struggles of racial minorities with the 'struggle' of transpeople to tell the difference between sex and gender.

It's unbelievably religiously insensitive to insist that males should share public changing facilities or bathrooms with certain minorities.

It's unbelievably sexist to seek to go gender neutral on women's health care issues, which are invisible and underfunded enough, without having to cater to this nonsense over actual healthcare provision.

It's unbelievably insensitive and traumatising to gas light patients about the sex of staff if single sex provision has been explicitly requested.

It is not patient led care. That's ideologically led care to the detriment of women.

This.

And what you were clutching your pearls about, @actualpuffins, the terrible "rudeness" you perceived on the thread and complained about, was someone acknowledging the reality of biological sex. That "trans men" are not actual men, and can only get pregnant because they are biological women. Because only women can get pregnant.

Clutching pearls - isn't that a bit sexist? Would you say that to a male poster? Next you'll accuse me of being hysterical.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/09/2023 21:28

trans people do indeed post on FWR - it’s always very enlightening when they do

Changeditforyou · 19/09/2023 21:29

Absolutely with you OP

Do you want a hand clap?

👏👏👏

Be pure of thought and allow the words like bleeder, breeder and barren be used in law to replace women.

What on earth are you wanging on about now? Oh dear.

Loosing the argument and falling into insults

👏👏👏👏

AutumnSalad · 19/09/2023 21:29

I think if they are going to link to pregnant people, then it’s not Mumsnet it’s ParentsNet or PeoplesNet

And again - off on a complete tangent rather than engage with the actual post.

I'm not sure I can, I'm 48 years old. My DM certainly can't, nor my MIL.

Women: adult female humans. Only women and girls can get pregnant, not all women and girls. Both your mother and mother in law could, when they were in their fertile years, right? You know this.

Your mother couldn't reproduce? You adopted then?

And if you were adopted, her life as a female was defined by her inability as a female to reproduce. Her experiences related to her body would have been fairly related to reproductive expectations. In a way that no male would be subjected to.

Or are you being deliberately difficult? Just for the fucking sake of it?

AnSolas · 19/09/2023 21:31

actualpuffins · 19/09/2023 20:49

No but it's considerably more straighforward.

Why would that be?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2023 21:32

I have indeed said it to male posters. It's a common phrase. Now who is gendering everything! Grin

That too.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/09/2023 21:36

I’m infertile because my female biology doesn’t work properly which has impacted my life in many different ways

my inability to reproduce doesn’t mean im not a woman & Im beyond bored of “but infertile women” being used as an argument to suggest sex isn’t binary

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/09/2023 21:40

Losing

Dear oh dear.

What has been really interesting on this thread is reading people putting words into my mouth and their incorrect interpretation of what my opinion is. Insulting me while saying I am insulting others. I'm fascinated and can't tear myself away.

You can spell
👏👏👏

Can you explain the meaning of the word "woman" or why it is an inclusive word for all pregnancy related Uk law?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2023 21:44

the terrible "rudeness" you perceived on the thread and complained about, was someone acknowledging the reality of biological sex. That "trans men" are not actual men, and can only get pregnant because they are biological women. Because only women can get pregnant

Any chance of you engaging with the point, @actualpuffins ?

actualpuffins · 19/09/2023 21:44

@AnSolas I'm sure you'll elucidate if I don't.

SirWalterElliot · 19/09/2023 21:45

I'm not offended by being called a person. 'Pregnant ladies' on the other hand really grinds my gears.

Ok. Do you not think it's generally rude to point out to someone in real life in a conversation biological realities, like, say, their inability to reproduce? Or inform a transman that they aren't actually a man though are they? Are you someone who tells it like it is?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2023 21:54

Or inform a transman that they aren't actually a man though are they? Are you someone who tells it like it is?

Until the "trans man" starts telling me how I have to think about my own sex, my rights etc, because it suits their agenda, I have no need to do so. When they do start telling other people what they are allowed to think, and claiming to be something they aren't and therefore men can have babies and no one can reference pregnancy as a wholly female experience, well they're going to find out that not everyone subscribes to their worldview.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2023 21:57

And many of these people are able to reproduce if they stop taking cross sex hormones. Unless they've been led down a pathway as children by people they thought they could trust and have made life altering choices when far too young.

actualpuffins · 19/09/2023 22:00

Bedtime for me. Night night.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/09/2023 22:01

Night. PS, not putting a space in between "trans" and "man" is a heinous wrongthink to most TRAs. Do better.

AnSolas · 19/09/2023 22:05

actualpuffins · 19/09/2023 21:44

@AnSolas I'm sure you'll elucidate if I don't.

Are you are going with the big fancy words to try make yourself look clever?

Or is is because you cant explain why you think that the law should use words other than woman to mean woman ?
