When will this go away please?

OP posts:
MavisMcMinty · 07/07/2023 14:49

I spoke too soon last time, but I didn’t get the pop-up after clicking “1 new post”!

PurpleParrotfish · 07/07/2023 14:50

Hang on… just clicked on about 4 different pages without it appearing once!

Has the curse been lifted?

MavisMcMinty · 07/07/2023 14:50

OMG it’s gone! Thanks MN.

Hello, everyone. You should only see it one time in one session on the site and will not see it after that. You also wont see it if you have visited feed before. If you're using a private/incognito browser or have cleared your cookies then you will see it in your next session.

As always, please let us know if there's any issues and we'll take a look.

i hae a question. (have only read this far, my bad)

I use an incognito browser because MN doesn't work for me on any other browser. So I'll get the pop-up every time.
No biggie i can click it away.

But what does it actually do?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 07/07/2023 15:06

The pop up is gone!

it’s like a dark cloud has lifted

<takes deep and cleansing breaths >

MavisMcMinty · 07/07/2023 15:18

Oh no! Just got it back again, about 5 seconds after clicking on this thread! But it had disappeared for 10 minutes or so.

LilyMumsnet · 07/07/2023 16:13

Hi again everyone

Thanks for your patience here - we know this has been a real PITA.
We've released a fix now and so we're really hopeful that it's all sorted now. Of course, do let us know if this isn't the case.

Brefugee · 07/07/2023 16:30

But what is it supposed to actually do?

AngryBirdsNoMore · 07/07/2023 16:43

Thanks Mumsnet! It’s now gone away for me after a visit to ‘the feed’.

Chenford · 07/07/2023 19:35

Looking good for me…

LadyTemperance · 07/07/2023 19:42

Still popping up on my iPhone.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/07/2023 19:44

Fine for me now too thank you. I didn’t do anything either.

MavisMcMinty · 07/07/2023 19:47

Just popped up once in the last hour, and I can live with that, anything’s better than pop-ups on every single page.

Purplestorm83 · 07/07/2023 22:04

Popped up just now (as every time I open mumsnet). I don’t want to visit the Feed is that the only way to get rid of it?

MavisMcMinty · 07/07/2023 22:17

I’m getting it about once every hour, which is so much better than every single page, I feel I can live with hourly.

While it’s not coming up on every single click now, it’s still appearing occasionally which will be very annoying if it’s left in place indefinitely.
@mnhq Could the tech people have another go at making it disappear after one view per person as intended? Or else get rid of it and replace with something less intrusive. Thanks.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 08/07/2023 10:32

Just echoing to say I’m still getting it every so often. Can you not put a stake through its heart MNHQ?

consider me fully advertised at. I’ve had ample opportunity to read about ‘feed’ and decide if I’m going to use it

Whinge · 08/07/2023 10:44

I can't remember them ever pushing a feature as much, even Premium wasn't this heavily advertised. I don't understand why they're so keen for everyone to know about a feature that the majority of users don't want and won't use. Confused

gluenotsoup · 08/07/2023 17:24

Its still more than is being stated, not as bad admittedly, but off puttingly often. Please stop pushing it on me 😬

Brefugee · 08/07/2023 17:25

I am still none the wiser as what the feed is or what it's supposed to do

Katrinawaves · 08/07/2023 19:28

I agree. What is the point of the wretched thing. It isn’t a call to action as there is no way of signing up for this news feed nor is there any way of declining consent. It’s just an ad for something which doesn’t seem to even exist yet!

It’s still popping up every time I visit the site but less frequently when I navigate between pages now.

Scrumptiousspongecake · 08/07/2023 23:00

I don’t know what it’s for. I’ve “interacted” with it, clicked on it, chosen my fave topics etc but it still won’t go. It’s coming less now but once you’ve set it up why does it keep coming?!

Furries · 09/07/2023 02:57

This type of “advertising” really pisses me off. It’s in the same vein as cold callers.

If I want a service, I’ll actively look for it. Ramming it in front of my face constantly is going to make me think “bog off, not interested”. When will companies learn? This applies to most advertising as well.

As for the “clear caches/cookies/history” - no! Why should I have to do that just to, possibly, correct an annoying advert?

Shoving stuff in front of people doesn’t work. Are there any posters here who actually pay attention to the adverts on the page (whether the header, the right-hand bar or the middle “video” section?). I “register” that something is there, but I pay no attention to it.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 09/07/2023 12:42

This seems to have gone for me but has been replaced with the consent pop up every time I change pages.
Make it stop @JoMumsnet @LilyMumsnet @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

AnIntrovert · 09/07/2023 17:02

Me too!!!!!!
