Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 06:50

Can I ask why you've changed the logo to be big ears to poke fun at King Charles?

I'm not a royalist but I don't think making fun of someone like this for their appearance is really fair.

I reported a post in the hope that a report would get picked up and acted on. Not happy about the logo. As PP said mean and not in the spirit.

Well I for one thinks it’s fine and people should get a grip! KC is the first person to enjoy a good laugh so would likely find it funny to be featured on Mumsnet in this way.

You’ve misssed the point, Charles is hardly likely to know or care. The issue is people don’t like mocking of someone’s appearance . That’s why it’s wrong. We’ve moved on from taking the piss out of how people look

The man is a dimwitted, expensive anachronism, leading an institution that is an embarrassment, but body-shaming is very much ‘not in the spirit’.

Mock his privilege, sure, but not his ears.

Absolutely this!

Bigpinktrain · 06/05/2023 07:59

@Reasonableadjustments I mean the royal family aren’t exactly known for their tolerance and kindness towards others.
I agree it’s juvenile but I think the whole coronation is a despicable affair so can’t get too affronted by a crappy logo

I am no royalist. But mocking someone's physical appearance in this way is bullying.

It's really shocking that despite all the threads and reports, MN have neither commented nor changed it.

I bet they can't change it easily due to their problematic IT, but not to even acknowledge the poor taste of what they have done is shocking.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 06/05/2023 08:05

I'm shocked!!!

How dare they?

Bullies!!

Sirzy · 06/05/2023 08:05

It’s also not just about King Charles but other people who have suffered, or are suffering with, bullying or low self esteem due to their ears or other physical features.

normalising taking the mickey out of how people look isn’t good

Iminthemoneylife · 06/05/2023 08:06

I’m a republican and I don’t like the logo. Could you imagine if someone did this to a women’s physical features?

Redglitter · 06/05/2023 08:06

Wow!! How inappropriate. Hope @MNHQ respond & remove it

IrishMamaMia · 06/05/2023 08:07

I was wondering why the ears were there. Not in the spirit.

DorotheaFrazil · 06/05/2023 08:07

Not cool Mumsnet. Take it down please.

GetMeToThePark · 06/05/2023 08:08

Yeah I’m in no way a supporter of Charles and will certainly not be watching or celebrating today but this is not cool. Taking the piss out of someone’s physical appearance is low, very disappointed with MNHQ on this one.

LadyKenya · 06/05/2023 08:08

This is in poor taste imo. Not good.

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 06/05/2023 08:09

I think it's funny. 🤣

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 08:10

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 06/05/2023 08:09

I think it's funny. 🤣

Works it be funny if I was made fun of due to a physical difference?

You thinking mocking someone's appearance is funny? Hmm

MuffinToSeeHere · 06/05/2023 08:10

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 06/05/2023 08:09

I think it's funny. 🤣

You think it's funny to mock people's appearances...that says a lot about you, none of it good...

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 06/05/2023 08:11

I din't give a single fuck about Charlie.

salamanderturtle · 06/05/2023 08:11

It’s an awful bullying logo. No idea what they were thinking.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/05/2023 08:12

I don't think it's 'funny. It's effectively saying 'Ha ha, look at our new King, he's got big ears!' Sort of thing you might expect from a four-year-old, who would, I hope, promptly be told that that was an unkind and unnecessary thing to say about another person. I expected better from MNHQ.

hellodarknessmyoldfriend22 · 06/05/2023 08:12

Wow that's awful. Not good Mumsnet

GoodChat · 06/05/2023 08:12

Redglitter · 06/05/2023 08:06

Wow!! How inappropriate. Hope @MNHQ respond & remove it

They'll probably just remove this thread for bullying or something and leave the logo up.

fUNNYfACE36 · 06/05/2023 08:13

No response from MNHQ on either thread.
They obviously don't give a stuff about the site usersvsensibilities
Maybe we should be speaking to the advertisers

CosmosQueen · 06/05/2023 08:13

Utterly cringeworthy MNHQ.
Who the hell thought that was appropriate?

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 08:14

Ok so.

Taking this at face value, it's ok on mumsnet to make fun of people who have a physical difference.

Right oh. That's going to make the boards interesting for disabled people. For a start. Pregnant women. Menopausal women.
