Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 06:50

Can I ask why you've changed the logo to be big ears to poke fun at King Charles?

I'm not a royalist but I don't think making fun of someone like this for their appearance is really fair.

It surely falls under "Not in the spirit" apart from being really poorly executed. It's clumsy and mean.

saraclara · 06/05/2023 07:09

I am not remotely a fan of the monarchy, but having received a 'warning' email from mnhq last week about some of my posts "not being in the spirit", and basically telling me to 'be kind', the hypocrisy is screamingly apparent here.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/05/2023 07:10

Pathetic. Are the Teenagers in charge of that

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 06/05/2023 07:17

Where do I see it?

SeptemberDreams · 06/05/2023 07:18

Agreed, this is terrible. Puts me right off this site.

Ladybug14 · 06/05/2023 07:19

Doesn't surprise me. Whoever is in charge @mnhq, nowadays isn't reading the room on so many levels

FrenchFancie · 06/05/2023 07:22

It’s not very nice is it? The crown is fair enough, but the ears need to go. It just feels like mocking someone for something that can’t be helped

Where do I see it?

It's on the website.

PurplePositivity · 06/05/2023 07:28

Wow!

I use the app so just looked at the website, has Mumsnet been hacked? Really not in the spirit.

Who signed that off?

LubaLuca · 06/05/2023 07:28

I completely agree. It's embarrassing that you did that MNHQ. Base humour about someone's appearance 🤨

MrsMiddleMother · 06/05/2023 07:29

Agree its really not acceptable! @mnhq what is the explanation for this awful logo??

Dontcallmescarface · 06/05/2023 07:30

So @MNHQ personal attacks are now ok as long as you find them "funny". Righto.

megletthesecond · 06/05/2023 07:32

I was about to start of thread on this.
Totally inappropriate and unkind. Crown, yes. Ears, NO.

Soontobe60 · 06/05/2023 07:32

Well I for one thinks it’s fine and people should get a grip! KC is the first person to enjoy a good laugh so would likely find it funny to be featured on Mumsnet in this way.

LoveTheDramaMick · 06/05/2023 07:33

I'm on the app and hadn't seen this. So mean spirited but also just plain odd. Can't believe anyone would allow that "design" (using the word in the loosest possible sense because it's really poorly executed) to be live on the site. Horrible mocking of a person, and I'm not a royalist just a human being who thinks you don't shame others for physical features they have no control over.

wheresit · 06/05/2023 07:34

Yikes.

A daily mail thread is incoming, brace yourself Grin

bd67thSaysReinstateLangCleg · 06/05/2023 07:35

if you want to mock the king, a crown and a leaky quill pen would be a just criticism of how he treats people.

i had class="underline">earsbatearspinnaplasty childhood surgery for bat ears and live with lifelong pain from the cartilage scarring. Images like the current logo endorse the mockery of bat ears that drives parents into agreeing to this purely cosmetic procedure on behalf of children who are too young to consent themselves but will have to live with the consequences. For a parenting website, this logo is utterly tone-deaf.

Rosesbloomingnow · 06/05/2023 07:35

I'm not a royalist. This is inappropriate mumsnet. Very mean spirited.

Modda · 06/05/2023 07:36

Who designed it? It's really unkind.

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 07:36

@Soontobe60 I have a squint. Would it be ok for the logo to be changed to mock him if he had a squint and if not why not? What's the difference? It's a physical appearance he can't change.

OP posts:
loislovesstewie · 06/05/2023 07:37

I'm also not a royalist, but I agree it's in poor taste. When did making fun of a person's appearance become acceptable? When would it be considered not acceptable? What physical attributes are deemed to be not up for mockery?

Hoppinggreen · 06/05/2023 07:37

AutumnCrow · 06/05/2023 07:06

Explains some of the decision making on here lately

Agree

WomanBitingATowel · 06/05/2023 07:39

The man is a dimwitted, expensive anachronism, leading an institution that is an embarrassment, but body-shaming is very much ‘not in the spirit’.

Mock his privilege, sure, but not his ears.

CeciNestPasUnPipi · 06/05/2023 07:39

Bloody hell, MN! What were you thinking?

LubaLuca · 06/05/2023 07:40

Soontobe60 · 06/05/2023 07:32

I don't think anyone enjoys people mocking their appearance, no matter how much they like a good laugh.

The fact is King Charles's ears aren't even remarkably big! Spitting Image is to blame for that misconception, yet here we are in 2023 having the same hackneyed old gag wheeled out because MNHQ are lazy and thoughtless.
