Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 06:50

Can I ask why you've changed the logo to be big ears to poke fun at King Charles?

I'm not a royalist but I don't think making fun of someone like this for their appearance is really fair.

There's thread after thread about these decisions that appear to be deliberately designed to create controversy.

What IS the spirit of the site, exactly?

Sleeepdeprived · 06/05/2023 07:41

@mnhq this really is so mean. Please change the logo.

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 06/05/2023 07:46

I’m really quite surprised they’ve done this. What is going on at MNHQ that they thought this was a clever and fun idea? There’s been a weird dynamic change.

Taking the piss out of someone’s appearance, whoever they are, is massively misreading this room. I doubt they’ll take it down though, as it’s a concession of a fuck up.

A very good question.

if you want to mock the king, a crown and a leaky quill pen would be a just criticism of how he treats people.

i had class="underline">earsbatearspinnaplasty childhood surgery for bat ears and live with lifelong pain from the cartilage scarring. Images like the current logo endorse the mockery of bat ears that drives parents into agreeing to this purely cosmetic procedure on behalf of children who are too young to consent themselves but will have to live with the consequences. For a parenting website, this logo is utterly tone-deaf.

The "childhood surgery for bat ears" link got mangled because the URL has underscores in it. https://www.entuk.org/patients/conditions/16/protruding_ears_bat_ears_pinnaplasty

Why don't MNHQ use their time to make a post rendering system that works properly instead of mocking the appearance of someone whose behaviour makes a much better target for criticism?

Protruding ears / bat ears / pinnaplasty

It would be better designed if the shape of the M was sausages instead ☺️

Skyellaskerry · 06/05/2023 07:49

If ever there was an example of Mumsnet not being in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please change the logo. It’s mean and mocking. Just the crown would have been fine.

That would also be mean

Came to see if there was a thread on site stuff, it's bloody immature and really fucking rude. I'm honestly very surprised that it was not only suggested but that at no point did anyone else involved stop and say errm that's not ok and instead everyone agreed it was acceptable!

Really low blow and inappropriate.

I agree.

ElonMust · 06/05/2023 07:54

Who made the call to approve this?

They need to be on a disciplinary warning and don’t you have any training in place about why we shouldn’t be mocking people’s physical features?

Not only is it juvenile and in poor taste, it looks crap. Poor show.

GoodChat · 06/05/2023 07:54

Just change it back to the normal logo if you can't be nice.

megletthesecond · 06/05/2023 07:56

I can't belive an actual adult signed it off.

Yeah, no. It's not ok to mock someone's physical appearance, things they can't help. Playground tactics.

StormzyinaTCup · 06/05/2023 07:57

Blimey!
Did a grown up sign that off?

The man is a dimwitted, expensive anachronism, leading an institution that is an embarrassment, but body-shaming is very much ‘not in the spirit’.

Mock his privilege, sure, but not his ears.

This ^

It's supposed to be for parenting issues, primarily. So they have a logo mocking a much-loved Grandad. Anyone who saw Louis bouncing on his Grandad's knee at the Jubilee concert knows that he is just Grandad to William's kids.

Bigpinktrain · 06/05/2023 07:59

@Reasonableadjustments I mean the royal family aren’t exactly known for their tolerance and kindness towards others.
I agree it’s juvenile but I think the whole coronation is a despicable affair so can’t get too affronted by a crappy logo

tribpot · 06/05/2023 07:59

Cheap and tacky. I agree with PP, what is the spirit of the site these days?

Hedonism · 06/05/2023 08:00

It's a bit 1980s, isn't it.

Not kind, @mnhq

ExhaustedPigwidgeon · 06/05/2023 08:00

Have MNHQ bothered to respond at all on any of the threads?

mum2jakie · 06/05/2023 08:01

That logo is really inappropriate and offensive. Not in the spirit, Mumsnet!!

Icelolly44 · 06/05/2023 08:01

Interesting how they’re so quick to remove threads deemed not in the spirit but much slower to respond to this……

YouJustDoYou · 06/05/2023 08:02

I saw it and just thought "wow, that's just....weird and not nice at all". Whomever signed off on that, shame on you. How would you like it if someone did something like that about YOUR appearance?

Quoronation · 06/05/2023 08:02

It's bullying
