Why are you making fun of someone's appearance with your logo change

Reasonableadjustments · 06/05/2023 06:50

Can I ask why you've changed the logo to be big ears to poke fun at King Charles?

I'm not a royalist but I don't think making fun of someone like this for their appearance is really fair.

Please tell us why it's okay to break your own guidelines and how, in all good faith, you can take down any post in the future made by any poster that pokes fun at any celebrity for any reason, because as you have said, as a society it's important to be able to freely make fun of the rich and powerful? You have made a mockery of your own rules and now have lost all moral ground to take down other people's posts

I agree with this. Ive seen posts taken down from people criticising various rich celebrities for their appearance and mumsnet has said "we're taking this down because its not in the spirit of MN". But its ok for them to do it. Riiiight.

I cannot actually believe mnhq response to this thread - what an absolutely stupid response, whoever wrote it needs sacking. You can take the piss out of people because they’re rich, Jesus.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 06/05/2023 13:39

What a shame mumsnet felt they had to cave in to the sanctimonious mob for a totally innocuous and affectionate logo change. I wonder if the posters will now head off to the threads where politicians like Boris Johnson or Pritti Patel are shredded for their looks.

It’s so juvenile

Weird

Isn't Justine fairly Rich and Powerful? Fair game now I assume?

Hi everyone - we’re sorry that the logo has upset everyone. We honestly didn’t think beforehand how it might go down as it was intended as bit of fun - but we take your point. In a world where people are being arrested for being antimonarchist, we think it’s important as a society that we can freely make fun of the rich and powerful but clearly we misjudged the mood and it was poorly executed. We've now taken it down.

Goodness, that’s an Ill advised response. You think it’s important to make fun of the physical appearance of the rich and powerful?

what an embarrassingly ill advised response.

QueefQueen80s · 06/05/2023 13:46

But the truth of it is, none of you will stop using MN because of this or anything else and they know it.

No probably not - but many of us will continue to call out BS of this nature.

That’s fair, because until there is an equivalent of scale, we won’t, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it. It’s really bad, let’s face it, they’ve announced it’s funny to mock someone’s physical appearance if they are rich and famous. Most folks won’t think that’s acceptable.

StormzyinaTCup · 06/05/2023 13:49

'Do as I say not as I do' is becoming more and more commonplace it seems.
I'm very pleased I'm not a paid up premium member.

Is wonder if MNHQ is having its very own Gerald Ratner moment?😉

I suspect they won't bother with that. Because, Tory. 🤷‍♀️

i think that’s the own goal moment, Justine announced anyone commented on a certain subject were deranged or something like that, and now they’ve announced that if you’re rich and powerful bullying you over your appearance is acceptable, fun even.

absolute power corrupts absolutely

Aww so that's what Jusine was doing when she accepted her CBE, supporting those who feel unable to express antimonarchist views 😆

90stalgia · 06/05/2023 13:53

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet I'm sorry it's gone. I stand with the protesters who were bundled into the police van.

Yeah, pretty much 😂

Vive la révolution! But not until Justine’s got her wee gong and a trip to Buck House.

You seem to have missed the heavy sarcasm in that post.

Quite.
I assume that's why people were wondering if she was alright.

Pleased MN did the right thing eventually.

Yeah they will. I remember when those ticker baby websites were all the rage. That’s pretty what mn has become now. Same posters over here now, they just swear rather than use hun and don’t have tickers. They died out because they became echo chambers as is mn.

What's that got to do with mocking someone's physical features?

Ahh. Well if they were wondering, then that would indicate a level of misunderstanding in their own reading comprehension.

Shame that MN backed down to the baying crowd though.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/05/2023 14:11

EarringsandLipstick · 06/05/2023 14:14

Right here on the thread.

No baying crowd that I've seen. Just posters holding MN to account for mocking a person's appearance publicly.

HTH.

Indeed. You have identified the baying crowd.

Well done you.

SirChenjins · 06/05/2023 14:20

Well done that baying crowd then - always good to see the collective voice calling out people who mock other’s appearances.
