Mumsnet turning into Tattle

lillie23 · 21/03/2023 10:04

Anyone else noticed how horrible some of the users on Mumsnet are. There are a few threads on here that I have read and some of the users are so rude with their replies, it reminds me of Tattle the way the users just slate and put people down. I think, would they be so rude and obnoxious if you was asking their advice face to face.

Would you say that ripping the piss out of some posters outfits on S & B was toxic?

I would.

They complimented more of the looks and outfits, in fairness.

They are nice to each other perhaps on Tattle. Not so nice when they egg each other on to troll people on MN though.

Usually Tattle deletes any reference to Mumsnet instantly.

Tattle is a much nicer place than mn

I agree. There's a surprisingly close community on Tattle who provide support to people facing tough times.

Most of it is an irreverent look at the fakeness of Insta fame and calling out the bullshit misconceptions. Which is why the celebs hate it.

Some people take it too far but genuinely I find MN a far more unpleasant and less supportive site on the whole.

coastals · 24/03/2023 17:17

They're allowed to reference Mumsnet but not post links. I think that's how it works.

You must have read a different thread to me. Because it was full of toxic ,bitchy comments about the outfits, dogs, carpets , mirrors etc,

They post screenshots. There's one of this thread 🤣

They have hurty feelings.

Well at the moment Mumsnet is like a bloody pro Ana website, the amount of shit about food and weight they’re letting stand. Highly toxic.

This. So many awful toxic posts about food and weight. I reported a thread and directly asked about the pro-ana style posts of many MNetters and got literally no response. One post was removed but no comment on the toxicity of the whole thread.

MN is batshit disordered about food and eating.

Anycolouryoulike · 24/03/2023 17:23

Oh and it was a mod who posted the SS , so no, they don't delete any reference to MN when there's a whole thread dedicated to it.

DanceMonster · 24/03/2023 16:50

MN is worse than Tattle. At least on Tattle they generally keep their abuse to public figures, but are generally polite to each other. Here posters are vile to anyone.

I’d probably agree with this. I did stop using tattle, as some posts about people were just too much and it all felt sour. But no one was discourteous to me personally.

MinorMeltdown · 24/03/2023 17:34

The difference with Tattle is, they are generally nice to each other - united in a common hate of another person / other people / Mumsnet.

I don't know why mods have kept the Mumsnet thread up there - it's really nasty and unnecessary. The posters there have WAY too much time on their hands; why do you care what outfit someone on Mumsnet is wearing?! Weird.

Here posters are just unnecessarily mean to each other though which is no better.

This is true. There are a lot of pleasant posters here but too many toxic people, and often borderline personal attack in their unpleasantness. I report some of them if they're persistent in this.

That's not including the trolls, liars etc

Anycolouryoulike · 24/03/2023 17:42

But people on Tattle are often vile about some posters on MN. So because they are nice to each other doesn't really make them pleasant people.

Threads don’t descend into chaos in the same way, though. I don’t need everyone who answers a thread to be a nice person, but it is reasonable for them to stay on topic.

Notbeinfunnehbut · 24/03/2023 17:45

I agree that mumsnet toxicity is lower and more dangerous as it’s piling on vulnerable people in their worst times rather than famous people

people come here in their worst times and some posters delight in tearing them to shreds,
and yes the moderators need to pull fingers out of yer arseholes! You see enough and do too little if you see the same posters again and again tearing down a vulnerable poster and taking great pleasure in it., DO SOMETHING! I’ve been here 13 years needs to said

I disagree. I reported a thread on Tattle to the mods. It was attacking a woman whose child had recently died. The posters were accusing the woman of enjoying her child’s death and using it for money and likes, the comments were absolutely disgusting. Tattle mods ignored me and the thread remains.

I couldnt imagine losing a child and then knowing that people were publicly saying I was revelling in my child’s death. Just horrendous.

Chilloutsnow · 24/03/2023 17:48

@Skinnermarink

Yes to that. It is very pro ana.

Matildapower · 24/03/2023 17:59

Posters don’t tend to attack each other on Tattle

I've read a few threads on tattle some of them
Towards the likes of Katie price are really savage , I stopped going on there when they made such a thing about Kate lawler and her parenting it was so so nasty and anytime you defended her it was all turn on you time
I don't see Mumsnet as nastier but maybe that's because the tattle ones I read were that bad

Random789 · 24/03/2023 18:11

Just made my first click on the gransnet forum in response to someone's recommendation upthread. I'm sure that it is very nice there, but the VERY FIRST THING that hit me when I arrived there was a promo of a will-writing service. Gah! Straight from parenting to preparing for death, with nothing in between! Is there some sort of intermediate forum for the phase between shipping your kids off to university and confronting mortality?

There's a competitive underrating vibe on Mumsnet.
About 3 years ago a poster made a thread about how she was disgusted with hier husband for having more than his fair share at a bbq, she made him out to be so greedy, but through the comments she said she had allocated 1 pitta and .5 chicken breast per person and he had eaten something like 1.5 which meant there wasn't enough.....
I mean it's bizarre, the comments were something else

Thisisthewaywe · 24/03/2023 18:19

I’ve just glanced at Tattle and yeah, the disordered eating shit on here is bad.

There’s been two will writing sponsored threads on MN for the past two weeks. One about writing a will, the other about leaving a legacy to some charity.

That’s not exclusive to Gransnet.

I’m not a Tattle member but do occasionally read when I’m killing time traveling (smell the wealth, hens 👋🏻) and do not see levels of toxicity anywhere near that of MN.

It's scary how people get slated and torn apart for admitting they eat anything like crisps or chocolate.

And the attitude to alcohol, anyone who has more than one glass of wine a week has an alcohol dependency.
