Dear MN Towers, could we consider moving the Buying and selling listings to a separate board?

Well.....could we?

lol hunker

it would put newcomers off mummy, unless they all wanted to sell too

what is wrong with ebay? you can do cheap listing days

Tamum · 17/01/2008 18:35

It seems fairly clear that MNHQ don't want to do anything major- this has all been discussed loads of times without anything really happening. I am happy with just ignoring the topic, but I see Aitch's point about newbies. I think it would be quite interesting to know what proportion of regulars choose to ignore the "for sale" boards compared with other categories, though.

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 18:45

Mummyof2boys - I think people are only bothered by the Sale board when they venture on (like myself) who used to sell bits & bobs for pence & now see what it's turned into. I agree anyone that doesn't want to see it can choose to hide it (like I did) but it's only when as a regular MNetter that you try & do what you once did (sell a few bits) & find it's so much harder

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 18:45

Because mummy2, the reasonsome do not post on the for sale boards is because of those of you that have buggy obsessions make it pointless.

hunkermunker · 17/01/2008 18:48

Ive had 147 buggiez. I get bored easy lol xxx

Gotta Buggerboo Grasshoppa in Stripey Fucktastic atm, itz georgous lol xxx

MrsDomJames · 17/01/2008 18:48

Its up to the moderators, im not getting involved, this is meant to be a website for grown up mothers!

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 18:49

Hunker, I'll swap it for that box
Just don't tell bree, she's after it for her belts.

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 18:49

MrsDJ - I don't think it should be up to the moderators to police the for sale board, just to users to agree to stick to some fundemental rules

I have got to have been one of the people who hangs around here the most since I joined

buying and selling has NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER annoyed me or bothered me, and I never bother to hide anything

there really ARE NOT that many threads on it even when people are complaining that there are

what, really, does anyone find offensive about it? it really is so not a problem

southeastastra · 17/01/2008 18:55

26 in last hour.

what is wrong with ebay? serious question.

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 18:56

there's 3 in active convos atm and one of those is a piss take talking about the same subject that this thread is

3 out of 50 is not a problem. I;ve never seen the board seriously swamped except very occasionally someone comes on and bumps about 10 of their threads which is a bit crap

but honestly, if this was putting newbies off do you not think MN would be noticing a problem? They have loads of members, I think it is disingenous to say you don't like it because it might put newbies off.

sparklygothkat · 17/01/2008 18:57

like I said, as a regular Mnetter (who posts everywhere, search my name, you will see its true ) and having a few baby bits to sell, it is very hard now, because within a hour my threads are off page 1.

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 18:58

Oh. sparkly, we don't need to search

Aitch · 17/01/2008 18:59

have you not seen the recent ones, frank, about (i think) hidehi ripping people off? it got way out of hand.
tbh i don't hide them because every so often i used to get things, you know, when people said 'i've been given two slings the same' or whatever. but now it's pointless, it's all *pls lk at my pictrail hun** so it has become rather specific to serial traders rather than normal mums i think. and the fact that the threads have become chat threads underlines that.

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 19:00

Well said Sparkly & Aitch

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 19:02

yes I saw them

I am sorry for the people, but it doesn't change the way I feel about the threads

I just don't care about them and wonder why other people do

southeastastra · 17/01/2008 19:02

if you click on the for sale topic, today's listings or threads take up the whole page. it's ridiculous.

FrannyandZooey · 17/01/2008 19:05

but so what? how does it affect you?

southeastastra · 17/01/2008 19:07

probably because i use ebay and pay the fees.

sparklygothkat · 17/01/2008 19:07

I have been trying to sell a highchair for over a week now. I thought that because this is a parenting site, that people would be interested in a brand new highchair, but nothing!! I keep bumping it, but can't get anywhere with it. I am going to put it on ebay now.

VictorianSqualor · 17/01/2008 19:08

Franny, I think most people are fed up with it being like a business for some people, which it is, if they want to trade as such, they should pay fees like ebay or other sites, but if you or I or anyone wants to just get rid of some bits they no longer use for a nominal price they get ignored, either ebcause people have hidden the for sale threads or because they get bumped out of active convos.

I dont hide anything personally and am happy for the for sale boards to stay I just think it's unfair on MNers that use the board for more than profit to end up being ignored.

Also, 'for sale' denotes something is for sake does it not? Yet I keep seeing for sale threads that are just convos between sellers, surely they could put that in chat to lessen the load so to speak? Or have ONE thread a week with all their stuff, rather than ten a day.

It's not the boards that bother me really, just the way I think they are abused.

southeastastra · 17/01/2008 19:09

also feel sorry for the regular posters who use the topic like sgk. too many people being scammed on there too.

Whizzz · 17/01/2008 19:09

Franny - I refer to my 1st post on here (17.38)

FarcicalAlienQueen · 17/01/2008 19:14

well - I think all the hun'ers sellers must be busy "chatting" in "for sale" as there's only 7 in Active Convo's at the moment -

I don't hide any threads or topics - and have on occasions counted up to 20 (and more!) For Sale threads - depending on time of day......that's quite a lot when it's out of 50 or so....
