I've been having issues with the Android app since the update. Long threads crash and then everything refreshes so I can no longer follow threads like the Cap'n ones on Litter Tray or the one by the lovely lady in Geneva who is living with her partner and best friend. I've logged in and out, reinstalled, cleared my cache, reduced posts per page on the website just in case for some weird reason that was affecting it. Nothing.

I've mentioned it several times on posts like these but nothing has changed.

I'm still getting the whole page going white and becoming unresponsive if I leave it open for any length of time and then come back to it in Chrome so its definitely not just an android issue.

Same. And it's on two different laptops as well.

I've been having this all week using the latest version of Chrome and Windows 11. Pages becoming unresponsive, that incredibly irritating 'Aw, Snap' Chrome error message, or 'not enough memory to open page'.

This is still happening, with an uptick in this 'Aw Snap' error over the last week. I am using 2 different laptops, including a more 'powerful' work laptop.

I am afraid this is incredibly annoying. I have to close down and bring up a mn page constantly throughout the day just to read it on my screen.

Hello!

We haven't encountered the aw snap message this week but we're really keen to look into it. Can you possibly send a screenshot of the error and let us know what device and browser you're using on both laptops?

blueshoes · 24/08/2022 20:14

Hi @LilyMumsnet thanks for getting back so quickly.

Not sure if this is meaningful, but here is the screenshot.

I am viewing on GoogleChrome. I opened this webpage at 19.49 today and left it open. At 20.05, I went back and clicked on the right scrollbar to scroll down the page. Almost immediately, the screen froze and I got this 'Aw Snap' error.

I refreshed the page and got the page to load back up ok. But other times (mostly on my other laptop), I get an error message come up that the page is unresponsive and asks whether I want to wait or exit from it. Waiting does not help and so I select to exit out of it and then refresh. That usually brings back the page again but if not, I close down the window, call it back up and go back into mn afresh and that should sort it.

This dance happens a few times a day. Maybe it is because the page is very long. But that is how I prefer to read it - I don't like to break it up into pages. I am fine it is slower to load but it should not cause the page to freeze. Viewing pages this way has not been an issue before pre-upgrade.

It sounds like it's a mixture of timing out from leaving the tab open, and from longer threads. We know it's a workaround but if it's happening every time, please could you change your posts per page? It would most definitely fix the crashing due to longer threads. You can also clear your cache which can help, since sometimes browsers cache older versions of web pages - and this can cause problems.

blueshoes · 24/08/2022 20:31

Hi thanks for the tip. The easiest workaround is for me to simply refresh. I have done the 'per page' view and did not like it and so swapped it back into the full thread. I don't get this on other sites. I don't like to clear my cache for various reasons.

That's fine. Still not liking the upgrade. I get the impression (unfairly?) that the upgrade is to deliver more ads to me but at the expense of usability and functionality (esp search).

Just lost yet another post because the 'can't load page' issue happened again and the only way to unfreeze the page was to close the browser.

There's a point at which the ads stop making revenue because they've just rendered the site too much hassle to try and use to generate content.

It was a laptop and chrome, thanks Lily.

gamerchick · 25/08/2022 19:26

I'm finding it a massive hassle. Text freezing while typing and having to shut it down. Freezing, ads not loading, half a page. Constantly having to get rid and get a new page up. Ah snap and so on.

It's not fun.

Athenajm80 · 25/08/2022 21:46

The Android app just shut down on me again. I was on a short thread this time, I think it was less than ten posts. The app went white for a few seconds then shut down.
