The site is getting gradually less and less useable...

I actually mind the new site when it was first launched. It was a bit different but I thought people were making an unnecessary fuss and that they, and I, would get used to it.

It's just getting less and less useable now though. First there were the minor frustrations, like the search function not working any more. Then there was the thing where the site kept logging me out all the time, despite having the box ticked to keep me logged in. Sometimes it would force me out at the end of writing a long post, so I would lose everything I had written. That issue seems to have subsided now, but instead, the site just keeps crashing. Constantly. Either I'm stuck with a blank white screen when I try to scroll past the ads, or the page just freezes without warning and stops responding. It definitely isn't my phone or my browser (default one on android) - I can use other sites without any difficulty.

I love MN but the endless string of problems is now getting me to the point where I just don't feel that it's worth the level of frustration that I feel when I'm trying to use the site. I don't enjoy it much now because of the endless issues.

MNHQ, is there really nothing you can do to get the site functioning properly again, like it used to do? I will have to find something else to do if not, because it just isn't worth the effort at the moment!

iPad and Safari.

No technical problems as such but I’m FED UP of the search being so feeble. I’m not trolling, in fact I’m usually looking for my own posts just to check facts or reminisce….
Not happening.
And whose bright idea was it to eliminate the “Refresh” button?
Refreshing the browser is completely different.

I’m on a iPhone, no idea of the other details, but I can use every other website fine.

mumsnet now makes me accept cookies every single time I open a page, and regularly gives me “access denied” messages if I try to go back a page.

I’ve had a look every couple of days since the new site launched and am amazed it’s not sorted out yet.

I’ve gone from a daily poster to posting maybe 3 times since the new site launched, it’s just a nightmare to use now.

Thanks for all your feedback - we're going through it all each day to log and investigate any new issues that have been raised.

We really don't want any of you to leave so we're doing everything we can to solve issues as quickly as possible.

Here are some updates about some of the issues raised here:

Search - we will release changes to search tomorrow that will include a better date filter. We’re also working on an advanced search that will allow you to search all posts in the same way as before

Black advert / rotate your screen - we are working with our ad tech security partner to block this so hope to have a fix soon

Watch section @familyissues12345 - we’re working on an update this so that it only shows if you have updates since you last saw the thread it’ll be released soon

Images being too small - @kitchens4ever we're working on this at the moment and hope to release changes before the end of the week.

Refresh - @Johnnysgirl we removed refresh because the action was just a browser refresh on the old website. We’re replacing it with a feature that indicates whether there are new posts on the thread you're reading so you can click to load them in. If you’d like to be involved in testing this new feature then please email [email protected] and we can get you involved.

@GoldenGorilla there are instructions on the known issues page that explain how to solve the cookie notice issue. Give those a go and hopefully you'll stop seeing the cookie notice!

@GU24Mumhave you updated the app to the latest version? That might help with your posting issues. I've passed your username to a developer who might be able to fix the ghost notifications issue - bear with us!

I'm on an android phone. (Samsung A32), using the default browser. (Samsung Internet). I had problems when I tried to log in with chrome as well though.

I don't really want to have to download the app.

Me too. I have already posted this on another thread a little while ago, as requested by someone from @mnhq ,to no avail.

I don't see any mention of the constant crashing or the blank white screen (apart from advert) @KatyMumsnet . Sorry if that's on the list of known issues and I've missed it - had a quick skim through but I couldn't see it.

Annoying as some of the other issues are, like the lack of a decent search function etc, I could live with those. What I really can't tolerate for much longer is the site crashing every two minutes or the page going blank white when I try to scroll. It just makes the site too stressful to use. I come to MN to relax, and now it's just winding me up and stressing me out.

My grievances are:

still acres of space on the screen, with a little ribbon of thread in the middle.

Can only see about three posts on my screen.

Nesting quotations, which I LOATHE.

Can't see the pictures posted by anyone - they are so tiny that I just don't bother trying.

I'm on the iPhone app. Really don't understand why most people are using MN on a browser when there's an app. Unless maybe they're using it for something different than me. I just use the forums and don't really have any of the issues you're all having.

The app is a bit shit though, so it could definitely use some improvements. The main thing that annoys me is my watched topics or topics I'm on, sometimes just stop working. So while there may be new replies I've not seen, the thread won't change colour or appear at the top of my list so I don't know it's been updated.

As for the website I'm well aware of the issues and frustrations many of the members are having with it. I just can't understand why such a massively popular website and forum is housed on such a shitty outdated platform. I feel like it's stuck in the 90's.

i am using chromebook.
have tried adjusting zoom size up and down, but even when the next page numbers emerge from under the adverts on right hand side, they are still unclickable.
most annoying tried hovering all over them.
can see the page i am on/have read has blue circle, and several page numbers after it, but they do not respond, do not become underlined, so i cannot advance in reading threads.
strangely, this does not happen on all of them.
just the most interesting, it seems. eg

@KatyMumsnet , it has just crashed yet again. The message that I get when it crashes is that the page has become unresponsive. It gives me an option to wait or to close the page. Nothing happens if I wait so I have to close the browser and reopen it. And repeat ad nauseum. I use the same browser for other websites and it hasn't ever happened on any other site. It never happened on the old MN site either, but it probably happens every 5 mins or so on the new one.

That, interspersed with the blank white screen that I often get stuck on when I scroll up or down on a thread, is making me feel that I'm going to have to quit MN after over a decade of spending far too much time on here. This really isn't me chucking my toys out of the pram because I'm upset about colours changing or icons being in the wrong order. This is about the site being barely useable because it just keeps getting stuck. As I said in my OP, I love MN and I don't really want to leave, but at the moment, it is feeling like it is honestly more hassle than it's worth. My frustration levels are sky high!

I tried the app a few years ago and didn't really like it so I went back to the browser. Tbh, I have too many apps already and I don't really want another one cluttering up my screen. The browser has been perfectly adequate until recently.

Because most apps seem to be a dumbed down version of the browsers site. I have loads of apps cluttering up my screens. The browser USED to work just fine.

And on threads I’m on, it tells you how many posts there are on the thread but it doesn’t tell you anymore, how many have been posted since I last posted, so instead of scrolling back roughly, eg 20 posts to read new messages, I have no idea where I last read to and posted! Takes ages to find my place.

When I get Mumsnet daily emails and click on them it used to take me to the app. Now it takes me to the browser without any functionality- so annoying. Using on iPhone X

It's interesting mnhq say they care about feedback when 2 threads I'm on in site stuff (blank spaces and threads I'm on issues) they haven't even replied to in ages and no changes have been made.

Also find I'm using the site less and less lately. Not even intentionally, I just can't be bothered as I find the new site frustrating and clunky. Surprising as I don't like change but I was pretty sure I'd get used to it like previous changes. Definitely not this time it seems!
