Any chance of a review of the FWR moderation rules in light of Maya Forstater's success in court please?

The belief that transwomen are men and that transmen are women has been accepted as a legitimate and protected belief, yet we are not able to state this on Mumsnet under the current rules.

It has become increasingly difficult to discuss feminist issues on the dedicated feminism boards as a result of the moderation rules.

In light of Maya's success in court, and that 'gender critical' beliefs are considered protected under the Equality Act, would it be possible for the FWR sex/gender mod rules to be re-visited please?

I'm leaving because of this ill-judged move that shows that Mumsnet doesn't prioritise its users.

@MNHQ can you tell me how to delete my account or do it for me please?

Quaggars · 21/06/2021 14:27

You should just be able to go into your settings and do it from there.

YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire · 21/06/2021 14:27

Never mind. I found it.

Bye 👋

So basically we now have feminism chat for the multitudes of posters who said they couldn't post there before for reasons, and sex and gender debate for the women's vs trans rights fight club?

Awful to have a board under a feminism banner named with no reference to feminism or women.

There's a lot of threads left in Feminism Chat considering we were accused of never discussing anything but trans stuff. It's almost like that accusation was hyperbole all along.

I was surprised by that too...

It's almost as if it was never about topics, but making sure people didn't have to see things they disagreed with.

Of course it was. The twitter monitoring tweets proved that time and time again. But it was never acknowledged.

One poster tried to state it was ‘95%’ of threads. No… I don’t recall it getting even to 70% and being an aggressive activist account you could also assume that it was prone to hyperbole too.

It was never about that. It was a power play.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/06/2021 15:53

@JustineMumsnet
I am so disappointed that you have done this and to have also ignored people’s requests for a different name for that section. It’s a regressive move.

Quaggars · 21/06/2021 16:21

@JustineMumsnet Been having a nosey of both boards, and I think it works really well so far as you can clearly see other threads that aren't all trans related - before they were all merged together and other threads got drowned out.
You can easily see other topics now, it's like it creates a room for more feminist voices, not just one.

Course it is. Twitter TRA land is loving it.

Bit daft, given the current Zeitgeist, but there you go.

I don't think it's going make any difference, frankly.

Oops, I was going to say the feminists who have done all the consciousness raising, will just continue to do it. And without all the gainsayers, too.

GiantToadstool · 21/06/2021 16:29

I dont like the title sex and gender debate. I want to discuss issues relating to my sex. I dont feel we need to debate sex vs gender every time!

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 21/06/2021 16:48

It would be very helpful if MNHQ could explain how we should be using the new boards.

And I would still like to know how the sex and gender guidelines will be re-visited in light of the decision in Maya's case.

Yes, some kind of criteria for what goes where and why.

Or is it just down to complainers and harrassers who will want women's discussions moved to the gulag, the place with the elaborate strict rules, where we never know if we are breaking them or not.

We can speak much more freely on Facebook and Twitter than on the feminist forum of an overwhelmingly female-used site. That says a lot!!
One can't even say pek trns or c_lt or mention safeguarding here. We can't be too general, nor too specific.

This desperate urge to appease those who don't want to use this site in good faith but only wish to silence women won't work. It's never enough, no amount of capitulation will ever be enough.

You shouldn't pay the ransom, when you do they will keep kidnapping your children and sending their fingers and toes in the post.

I might leave, not because I feel silenced, but because I feel embarrassed on MN decision makers behalf that they allowed the Jeffreys of the world to take the reins.
The second hand cringe is really quite painful.

Or collating the things they disagree with together to make reporting much easier.

looking on the bright side, if a bunch of liberal 'sex work is work' types are about to come out of the woodwork, I think they're quite likely to get a fairly sharp lesson in what actual feminism is

it could expand the possibilities for debate and push the boundaries of the radicalisation portal

WarriorN · 21/06/2021 19:27

Pissed of that I can only see the sex and gender board when I press on feminist chat.

So can't see feminist chat.

The rest are empty. @mnhq

Yes, I'm really looking forward and genuinely interested to see what Quaggers and others who share her views actually want to discuss on a feminism board but have always felt unable to do.

although embarrassingly there are a LOT of threads on the good feminists board. turns out posters there weren't quite the monomaniacs they were made out to be

almost like the reasoning given was complete bobbins...

Oh lor! I'm not on Twitter, so I don't get to see any of that. Frankly, I hardly even know who these people are, they take up zero of my headspace. And have had zero affect on me, what I say, or what has happened in terms of GC women ploughing on. It seems to me that the real movers and shakers are operating incognito and behind-the-scenes. All that daft goading is irrelevant.

MNHQ have replied to this subject (the latter subject, not the original subject of the thread) on a different Site Stuff thread. They said that they haven’t replied on this issue because it needs to be discussed among MN staff. For those who haven’t seen it:
