Enormous ad banners that you accidentally click on all the time?

I'm on the mobile site on an iPhone 11 (one of the biggest screens!) and these new banners that are triple the depth of the previous/normal ads are the bloody bane of my MN life.
They are damn near impossible to not click on when you're scrolling upwards.

Is that it? You get revenue for clicks so you made it so that I accidentally click on it about 29 times a day??

That's exactly it. they are making a killing from us being diverted from the website every 30 seconds and having a terrible experience. PPC advertising but shady af because you can't not click on it.
So disappointing.

This drives me mad too - scrolling through a thread on my phone it is so easy to accidentally keep touching the ads as they are really frequent and right in the middle of the screen. The cruise one is now on my most frequent website list I've clicked on it so often.

I also fail to see how it takes months to sort this out ......

I'd look into recruiting a new tech team if it's taking them this long!

Lol four months, not two. Classic mn, worst user experience of any site I've tried to use regularly - bar none.

Android, Chrome.

This one as well - a scrolling ad! So if you're scrolling down the page and your finger isn't at the far side of your screen, you'll just get stuck on the ad instead.

Iberostar adverts now.
Again, lots of adverts open and it's coming up on my my frequently visited suggestions.
The advert is also in Spanish. Good test of my GCSE Spanish knowledge I suppose Grin

Four months on and my adverts are all still for Royal Caribbean because I've accidentally clicked on the bloody advert so many times. Despite the fact that I have exactly zero interest in ever going on a cruise.

At what point does multiple clicks translate to a negative for the site because they're generating no new sales?!

WildImaginings · 30/10/2021 18:09

Still happening. HUGE Royal Caribbean ad that I accidentally click on on every thread I'm on. Using the app.

If you don't want people to use ad blockers then sort your ads out.

I can’t touch the screen anywhere to scroll down the first page of any thread without a huge ad for Jet2 ski flights opening up. It’s infuriating. I’m on an iPad.

CounsellorTroi · 31/10/2021 11:05

I’ve actually just found that if you refresh the page the ad goes away and doesn’t open up again

Gimlisaxe · 01/11/2021 14:21

I have just had this giant ad, not only does it take up the whole screen, I couldn't see the post I was reading either.

I am on a laptop

LadyCatStark · 01/11/2021 14:41

The worst thing about accidentally clicking on ads is that you get more of the same thing as the algorithms think you’re interested 🙈.

SuddenArborealStop · 14/11/2021 20:50

The number of times I accidentally click on the Dropbox ad is too high. I've stopped reading threads because of it , I'll check back in another few months to see if anyone's bothered doing their job.

BreadmanAndCake · 16/11/2021 23:28

Is anything getting done about this? If I use Mumsnet on my phone for 10 minutes I end up with at least 10 tabs open on my browser due to the hyper sensitive ads, does my head in.

Oblomov21 · 19/11/2021 08:16

I've been having this in the last 2 weeks. On an i phone. It takes up almost just less than half of my screen and I scroll through a thread, without it going to the add 5 times. And it's so sensitive, overly sensitive, just using my finger to scroll through the thread, ie I'm not clicking on the add At ALL, on the right hand side of the screen, takes me to the add 4 or 5 times within a minute.
It's really irritating.
