Enormous ad banners that you accidentally click on all the time?

I'm on the mobile site on an iPhone 11 (one of the biggest screens!) and these new banners that are triple the depth of the previous/normal ads are the bloody bane of my MN life.
They are damn near impossible to not click on when you're scrolling upwards.

Is that it? You get revenue for clicks so you made it so that I accidentally click on it about 29 times a day??

Agree it's dreadful on iPhone. Half the screen is an ad. I think making the grey bit bigger will be even worse!

GillBiggeloesHair · 30/04/2021 21:00

Take up half the bloody screen.

There is no way increasing the ad area to half a screen is going to make for a decent 'MN experience'. I'm out off the gazillion tabs opening from one thread that I've been using MN less than usual. Can't you have the ads as strips as you had before?

Im using the android mobile site and its almost impossible to type on atm. Im typing away and the keyboard disappears because the advert keeps refreshing. i cant even see the advert at the time .

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 08/05/2021 18:30

This stopped for a week and now it's happening again and doing my head in. It's that cruise advert mostly.

Poppytime · 12/06/2021 20:10

This cruise advert is driving me mad too! It's massive and I click on it constantly by mistake. It's really putting me off using the mobile app tbh (and I appreciate some advertising is necessary to keep things free etc, but it never used to be this massive and intrusive, or the same advert over end over)

NoMoreHGTVPlease · 12/06/2021 20:20

Ridiculous

It's driving me insane too. Please sort it out!

Bromeliad · 12/06/2021 21:14

Me too, constantly opening multiple tabs in my browser when scrolling through the app. So bloody annoying!

BlackeyedSusan · 14/06/2021 19:53

Same here. Takes up the whole available area on screen and nowhere to touch so you can scroll. Piss me off with your ad and I'm not buying the product.

winterchills · 14/06/2021 20:03

This happens to me all the time and it drives me insane 😡

BlackeyedSusan · 14/06/2021 20:07

I find it difficult to type in the comment box as it is covered by ad and I can only see one or zero lines of text. Because the top banner comes down and covers it. Can't post as can't see the preview post buttons very well. And they jump and end up hitting search which wipes your typing and is very annoying. I have been spending less time on MN.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 14/06/2021 23:30

This is annoying again. It's always the stupid cruise advert 😖

GlitteryFluff · 15/06/2021 17:50

This is doing my head in. It's so annoying when scrolling and accidentally clicking the ad, then having to navigate back to the MN app.

MadeForThis · 15/06/2021 18:30

I hate it.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/06/2021 22:35

play station. too bloody sensitive.

MutteringDarkly · 16/06/2021 12:06

Agh, ads are suddenly showing every three posts, they're massive and get clicked every time I try and scroll.

What's the point of paying to subscribe when the threads are unreadable? If I can't scroll through a thread the entire site has just lost its purpose for me.

soniamumsnet · 16/06/2021 12:09

Hi @MutteringDarkly @BlackeyedSusan and others - just dropping in to say thanks for the reports. Are you able to provide a screenshot please? Also, please can you let us know the device and browser versions. Flowers

Bananarama101 · 16/06/2021 15:42

God yes, this! Forever accidentally clicking on the advert. Thought it was just my fat thumbs. Is really sensitive if that makes sense, just a light touch and it's off to the browser for you!

From being on just today this is the pages

Hi @Bananarama101 thanks for providing this image. Please can also let us know the device and browser version that you are using? We'll take a look into this. Flowers

Bananarama101 · 16/06/2021 16:03

It's an iPhone SE 2020 accessing MN through the app

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/06/2021 16:14

Just observing that Google are starting to roll out their new Page Experience update which means that user-friendliness on mobiles will affect how high sites rank on search engines, & ads taking up half the screen could bugger things up a bit.

The Mumsnet search engine optimisation team should know all about this.

Cismyfatarse · 16/06/2021 20:28

Me too and I pay for Premium which is supposed to be ad free.

Trayble · 16/06/2021 20:34

The cruise advert is ruining Mumsnet as well for me. Out of 24 tabs open on my phone it's responsible for 13 of them.
It's massive and ridiculously sensitive.

Goingplacestogether · 16/06/2021 20:40

I constantly get a video of a woman in a khaki top talking. It’s not successful as I haven’t a clue what she’s talking about.
