Enormous ad banners that you accidentally click on all the time?

Zancah · 24/04/2021 17:16

I'm on the mobile site on an iPhone 11 (one of the biggest screens!) and these new banners that are triple the depth of the previous/normal ads are the bloody bane of my MN life.
They are damn near impossible to not click on when you're scrolling upwards.

Is that it? You get revenue for clicks so you made it so that I accidentally click on it about 29 times a day??

Just seen this thread. I'm having the same issue, also mostly with that bloody cruise ad (I can't think of any worse holiday so it's not working). It takes up so much of the page (using the app on an iPhone) that's its hard to avoid clicking it accidentally. I'm sure MN is enjoying the ad revenue but this is a bit over the top!

DoTheNextRightThing · 26/07/2021 09:13

Oh good I'm not the only one! It happens to me multiple times on every thread. Drives me insane! I can't afford a bloody cruise and I don’t want a ring doorbell!!!

BlackeyedSusan · 27/07/2021 11:24

nespresso is so sensitive that it triggers every time you brush against it. they are making me so cross I would neverr byuy them.

soniamumsnet · 27/07/2021 17:24

Hi @BlackeyedSusan thanks for your comments about these ads which have been passed on. Flowers

whatmattersisthatyoulove · 27/07/2021 17:34

Me too, a few weeks ago I went to clear my safari tabs that were open and I couldn't understand why I had so many for cruises. It's now a daily chore to close all the cruise tabs open after an evening on mumsnet.

QuercusRose · 29/07/2021 00:12

Came on to see if anyone else had posted about the Nespresso ad - I don't get this trouble with any of the other ads, but Nespresso pops open every time I try to scroll past it. I don't even drink coffee, so they'll have no luck with me!

BlackeyedSusan · 29/07/2021 01:01

the play station ad used to be the same.

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 29/07/2021 01:14

I have a Shein advert after every 6 comments on this thread, takes up half the page and exactly the same advert.

Samsung s20 on the app.

Kitchendilemmas · 01/08/2021 12:52

Well it's clear that @MNHQ gives no shits about the user experience here...

CatbellsQueen · 04/08/2021 08:46

Barbara Sturm can stick her discovery kit where the sun don't shine too.
This totally backfires really... companies I will never ever buy from. And yes is clear no one at HQ gives a shit

soniamumsnet · 04/08/2021 10:02

Hi @CatbellsQueen thanks for reporting this again and passing on your feedback. If you can post a screenshot it would be really helpful. We're taking a look now. Flowers

DazzlingHaze · 04/08/2021 10:10

I knew this was going to be the cruise ad before I even opened the thread! Grin like a PP, I've accidentally clicked it that many times that it's in my most visited on my safari home page

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 06/08/2021 06:47

Mumsnet advertisers are doing their best to get me to go on holiday!
Had a few days of not opening up any ads which was lovely.
Last night it starts all over again with the Visit Portugal ad.

catfunk · 06/08/2021 07:16

Yep. I work in digital marketing and trust me they know EXACTLY what they're doing.
It's a really shitty UX but they don't care.

catfunk · 06/08/2021 07:18

Ironically just happened as I was scrolling though this thread Hmm

Piccalino3 · 06/08/2021 07:44

This also drives me mental. I haven't been on a cruise, I'll never be going on a cruise despite how many times Mumsnet advertising makes me click on their link. It's infuriating!

aubreyii · 06/08/2021 07:53

Me too. That fucking cruise advert ... the more I inadvertently click on it, the more it comes up as clearly (to them) I'm mega interested in signing up for three weeks !

soniamumsnet · 06/08/2021 11:39

Hi @aubreyii @Piccalino3 just dropping in to say thanks for the feedback which we'll pass on. Flowers

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 06/08/2021 12:00

Prime video ad for me today.

mrsmoppp · 06/08/2021 13:39

Constantly clicking on it which I then end up with loads of tabs full of cruises I don't want to go on

Whinge · 06/08/2021 13:41

This issue has been going on since April, why do you need to pass on feedback? Surely tech are already aware of the issue and working on a fix... Confused
bluedomino · 06/08/2021 13:52

Nespresso for me, about 13 times a day. It's so sensitive.

SuddenArborealStop · 07/08/2021 06:04

It's this one for me today but it doesn't really matter which ad they're all so much more sensitive than they used to be. I could sneeze near my phone and the ads would open.

@yetanotherbeckymumsnet no WAY does it take months to sort an issue like this. please listen to your users. it's an absolutely dreadful user experience.
