As above. Why have videos of 'Amy' and her baby started appearing in every single thread I open? It's very annoying. Am I expected to pay for Premium or something to stop this?! Thanks...

Having had a look at the adverts, I think it's also very strange the way they're juxtaposed and labelled and not fair to Ami, the lava cake lady, or the posters who end up with them embedded in their posts.

For example, I don't think Ami has anything to do with lava cake lady. The lava cake lady's recipe is labelled 'easy weaning recipe' on my MN screen, but she never says that herself in the video. She might be horrified by it. And it does look at first glance like Ami is promoting it.

Btw, MNHQ, in order to see lava cake lady make her ramekin of absolute kak I had to watch a tampax advert, which was certainly a lot of 'fun' for someone still recovering from a hysterectomy.

Seeline · 23/03/2021 09:03

As others have said - really annoying.

It's misleading as it appears as part of someone's actual post.

When viewing on my phone (using the web site rather than the app, because the Android app is so crap - but that's a different thread) I can't scroll down until it is fully loaded which takes ages.

It is completely irrelevant to me as my DCs are late teens.

It is very bad advice - all that sugar in a weaning recipe!!

I don't use an ad blocker - I'm not willing to pay for premium so I feel having the ads 'pays' for using Mumsnet. However, this one is making it almost unuasable.

soniamumsnet · 23/03/2021 09:04

Hi @OhYouBadBadKitten and thanks for all these points - we're working on how this ad appears and will keep you updated. We appreciate all your feedback. Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/03/2021 09:09

Thank you Sonia :)

katmarie · 23/03/2021 09:23

So we have to pay to stop seeing this thing? That is incredibly disappointing. It's intrusive, impossible to stop it autoplaying, and a total waste of bandwidth. I really urge you to think again MN. I'm sure I am not the only one who will be reluctant to use the site if we have to deal with this on every single thread.

Nith · 23/03/2021 09:37

WTF is that disgusting cake recipe? Chocolate, tomato paste and marshmallows? Who would subject their own digestion to that, let alone that of a weaning baby?

SoupDragon · 23/03/2021 10:00

Trying to remove it from sensitive topics isn't going to work.

This looks like someone has included it in their post where they offer condolences to a poster who has shared how they lost twins.

That's awful. Shock
Mabelene · 23/03/2021 10:06

Ok so if she’s staying I’m using the site at the absolute minimum. No more browsing topics, just the ones I’m really interested in

Well done mumsnet 👏👏👏

I think it's misleadingly mislabelled, which is a bit of a massive fail really on a parenting website.

I don't know who the lava cake making lady is, but I watched it So You Don't Have To and she herself only mentions 'kids' not babies or toddlers.

Mind you I wouldn't feed that sugar bomb to small children either. Sod that mess and explosive heat. They can have a club biscuit.

Oh my god, that's awful, absolutely dreadful. Those poor posters.
CodMouth · 23/03/2021 11:30

I could tolerate ads being on the right hand side and the top of the page but now there’s whole borders of ads and Ami.....

Overkill.

sarah12398 · 23/03/2021 12:18

Agree with above posters.. and I'm not paying for premium just to get rid of annoying Ami, she's on every single bloody page.

Think I'll maybe just leave Mumsnet for a bit... (I will flounce as I depart, obviously.. Wink)

Saucery · 23/03/2021 12:55

You don’t have to pay Premium to get rid of it. I went into Adblock Plus (which blocks all the other ads on MN) and there is a section for ‘acceptable ads’ in the Exceptions bit (where you can whitelist sites). It’s supposed to be for unintrusive ads used by sites and obviously MN have used this loophole to have Ami blaring out on every page of every thread. Toggled it, she has disappeared - hurrah!

I do whitelist some sites but never MN while they have their policy of intrusive, distracting and sometimes catastrophically tone-deaf and inappropriate adverts,

Thank you, have changed my ad blocker to this one and it works!

Is it me or does this feel like another attempt by MN to get more premium members? I was never going to pay and would rather not browse if thats the choice otherwise.

Just another ploy thats tonedeaf to how insensitive it is to some members.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 23/03/2021 13:13

Dear god how tone deaf do you have to be HQ to think keeping this is a good idea

Chemenger · 23/03/2021 13:19

Out of idle curiosity I clicked on the lock symbol at the bottom of the ad. This takes you to the privacy policy of Ultimedia, presumably the company who are enabling this. The policy is in French. Is this policy a legal requirement? If so I imagine it needs to be in English.

Chemenger · 23/03/2021 13:21

Is it just me or did Amy disappear while I was typing that last post? She doesn’t seem to be on any thread now.

Saucery · 23/03/2021 13:25

I think, unless it was a total coincidence that Ami vanished when I toggled ‘acceptable ads’ off, that embedding that ad in posts on every page was an attempt to circumvent ad blocking software.

Ive done what you suggest

CassandraCross · 23/03/2021 13:29

My adblock hasn't let this ad through instead I'm seeing posts like this:

Posters comment

Acres of blank space where I presume the ad would have been had adblock not removed it.

I was thinking an awful lot of posters seem to be randomly pressing their space bar before submitting their postConfused.

It is very inappropriate to make the ad look like it is part of a someone's post, whatever and wherever the poster is posting as it is implying the poster is either spamming or endorses the advert.

soniamumsnet · 23/03/2021 13:29

Hi - just dropping in to thank you for taking the time to pass on all your feedback. We've now rolled back this ad for logged in users. Thanks for being so patient. Flowers

Mabelene · 23/03/2021 14:09

Bit sneaky though, not impressed mnhq

Even less likely to subscribe than I was before

I think you have a slightly overinflated sense of your own importanceHmm

youvegottenminuteslynn · 23/03/2021 14:09

Hi @soniamumsnet thanks for looking into this and changing stuff behind the scenes.

Can I just check, is it the case that ads in future will look like they are part of posts?

Was this an error layout wise or is that an ad format you'll be using again?

If so, it will make me and others wary about posting on or reading threads about sensitive topics due to the examples given here regarding the baby loss posts.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2021 14:32

She's gone!

Thank you :)
