Why is it suddenly ok to make multiple threads on the same subject over and over again?

I'm talking about the Feminism board. Please could MN explain why it's ok for the same poster to keep starting new threads on the same topic repeatedly without the previous ones filling up or reaching any limit?

Surely there's a point where this is considered "not in the spirit" as you love to say. By all means this person should be allowed to post but why are repeated threads within hours of each other being allowed to cause Groundhog Day over there?

Well said it’s so annoying and feels really childish. Come and poke a stick but don’t want to listen and what anyone else things.

GCAcademic · 04/03/2021 21:40

@GCAcademic

Can you confirm, MN, whether you still operate the strike system when FWR posters respond to blatant trolling?
Just to add to this, this includes the posters you deleted for saying the OP wasn’t posting in good faith, when it turns out the OP was indeed screenshotting and encouraging pile-ons on Twitter. Posts that were made after the OP announced on here last night that they were here for harvesting purposes and you gave them the green light to continue?
Glamflimfloogety · 04/03/2021 21:40
@Glamflimfloogety I wasn't aware of that. Does MNHQ know? And would you mind PMing me re the twitter account please?
I've PM'd you

I imagine they know, the OP has been 'outed' on all threads now and there are multiple screenshots of their Twitter thread. Considering how quickly MNHQ are deleting comments I can't imagine they're unaware of the Twitter account now

OwBist · 04/03/2021 21:42

Oh, mnhq know about the experiment. They've been @ in the comments. The users handle was voluntarily disclosed in an early post of theirs.

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/03/2021 21:42

It really was fucking tedious

OwBist · 04/03/2021 21:42

Sorry - cross post.

dragoncheeselady · 04/03/2021 21:56

The poster is also repeatedly using cis after being told it's not acceptable under the Mumsnet rules for FWR. But they apparently are immune to that rule of have the rules changed again?

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 04/03/2021 21:58

.

Nefbachmorf · 04/03/2021 22:01

Adding my voice too.
Especially in defence of those who had posts deleted on the second thread for 'troll hunting' when they were only repeating what MNHQ had said on the first thread!
The first thread had been locked, therefore most of us hadn't returned to it, so had not seen MNHQ's edit saying the OP had been contacted and that HQ had a mind change and accepted OP's explanation.

I suspect that was also an aim. If feminists are banned from Mumsnet there isn't really anywhere else to go.

Exactly. Today has been a complete mind fuck. Don't appreciate the feeling that a trap was laid for women on another site that's nothing to do with Mumsnet then the posters here being punished for walking right in to it.

really hope there is a rethink of this strategy as pandering enemies in the mistaken belief that they will play fair if you do, is misguided and utterly counterproductive.

It really is. You can't reason with certain people. They are ideological zealots, there is no room for Mumsnet in their brave new world.

@BoreOfWhabylon

I've reported the OP, not because there's anything wrong with it but to draw MNHQ's attention to this thread. *@MNHQ* doesn't go anywhere.

It really is disappointing that users have been deleted for pointing out the obvious. The double standard over the user doubling down on her use of “cis” was not great at all.

Having checked out the user in question on Twitter, I really do not think MN have done her any favours by allowing the threads to run on.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 04/03/2021 22:42

Being one of those posters who was deleted for repeating what a mod had said and then subsequently been proven correct about the OP,'s motives, it feels like you threw regular posters under a bus. Allowing personal attacks to stand, yet deleting and giving people strikes for innocuous comments

It hasn't been an open debate, it has been outright abuse from visitors who have no intention of engaging in debate but chuck around offensive slurs, make racist and misogynistic comments and then take screen shots to post all over social media.

The handling of the situation has been appalling. There is no harm in holding your hands up and saying you got it wrong this time.

Doyoumind · 04/03/2021 22:47

The OP from those threads had multiple violations that were allowed to stand.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. MN doesn't let anyone post under Sex until they've been here long enough. I don't think you should be able to join and immediately post in FWR without being an established member - even if it's just a 24 hour restriction. It would help prevent this kind of nonsense.

VaggieMight · 04/03/2021 23:06

It's beyond tedious. The new posters on FWR will soon get bored and go away as they always do. I'm disappointed to see MNHQ seemingly fawn over some of them and allow such disingenuous threads to stand.

I agree, no brand new members should be allowed to post on FWR. Like most others, I lurked for ages before ever posting on any FWR threads.

Mockolate · 04/03/2021 23:06

Multiple posts on the same topic?
Not really any different to the multiple posts we get "what is a woman?"

 • circular threads that are like Groundhog Day, discussing the same thing, going over the same argument day in, day out, so not sure this is much different.

Agreed.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/03/2021 23:24

Adding my voice too. The standards of moderation are beginning to seem a bit 'double' - and against FWR women. Many FWR women have been deleted, given strikes and banned for quite innocuous posts, or where we have been goaded. We contort ourselves linguistically to conform to 'the rules' which often seem to be ambiguously or arbitrarily applied - and then posters who boast that they are posting in bad faith are allowed to post multiple, disruptive posts and use language that is offensive to many women. What gives?

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2021 23:31

Multiple threads, not posts.
PickAChew · 04/03/2021 23:57

Sounds like some sort of organised response to the goading is needed. I remember the recipe replies or maybe some quotes from literature. Not necessarilygood literature!
