Why is it suddenly ok to make multiple threads on the same subject over and over again?

I'm talking about the Feminism board. Please could MN explain why it's ok for the same poster to keep starting new threads on the same topic repeatedly without the previous ones filling up or reaching any limit?

Surely there's a point where this is considered "not in the spirit" as you love to say. By all means this person should be allowed to post but why are repeated threads within hours of each other being allowed to cause Groundhog Day over there?

Before you go handing out strikes, I'm referring to the act of spamming a board with similar topics instead of keeping them neatly in the same thread. Not getting into discussions about the rights and wrongs of the subject matter at hand. This seems to come under 'site stuff' as it's about keeping the place tidy and organised.

Those threads are not in the spirit, at all. They seem to exist solely to provide the OP and their mates with screenshot to share on twitter. Every point and question has been answered elsewhere on FWR.

VampireTheBuffetSlayer · 04/03/2021 16:42

I was going to say exactly what Cannot said. It's spamming surely?

The Twitter screenshot thing has been denied as sarcasm which MN have been quite strict on now, I would be careful what you say. I dont intend this to be a pile on of a particular poster but I do wish to clarify the rules regarding repeated spamming

@MNHQ I'd like to know the answer to this too. Please can you manage this issue before it gets out of hand. Alternatively if it is now ok to post multiple threads on the same topic, please let us know. There are lots of us who would be delighted to join in. Many thanks.

Igmum · 04/03/2021 18:17

Yes please @MNHQ. I love the FWR board it's definitely the best bit of the site and though I mainly lurk I really enjoy the wit and wisdom of the contributors. The last couple of days have been grim. Goady posts, can't really have a discussion, just unpleasant. If FWR has gone to the invaders could we have another board? Flower arranging for beginners perhaps, or home baking, or maybe tidying tips where we could sneakily discuss FWR in constructive and pleasant solidarity

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 04/03/2021 18:24

Adding my voice to the voices before me.

NutellaEllaElla · 04/03/2021 18:26

What they said. The poster in mind is just trolling trolling trolling.
Not In The Spirit. Why is that phrase only applied to GC feminists eh?

MsFogi · 04/03/2021 18:28

Hear hear

Dkfhenzkghsm · 04/03/2021 18:28

Today has been so fucking tedious opening all these duplicated threads just so I can hide them from the Active view.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/03/2021 18:36

I agree. I'm very happy to see people from every point of view posting on FWR as it can be a bit of an echo chamber and it is important that a range of views can be heard. But this random spewing of threads on FWR all on broadly the same topic where the OP is lecturing rather than engaging are a bit tedious.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/03/2021 18:38

If you are in FWR each thread topic has 3 dots next to it (in mobile view at least). You can hide the thread from there rather than having to open.
Martinisarebetterdirty · 04/03/2021 18:43

I’d be interested in this too, it’s very tedious and does feel a little like double standards, I’m sure it’s an oversight though Confused

BelleHathor · 04/03/2021 20:25

There have been multiple posts comparing Trans Women to Black women, this is open racism and is not ok.

GCAcademic · 04/03/2021 21:01

The racism of those posters is disgusting. Well done, MNHQ, you actively invited anti-woman racist activists over from Twitter to goad those of us who are female and not white. They then encourage their Twitter followers to pile on to regular posters. And you expect us to subscribe to your Premium service for this privilege?

GettingUntrapped · 04/03/2021 21:05

It's like a great burst of energy leading to a black hole, hopefully.

The repeat poster hasn't got a leg to stand on, so I am happy MN has allowed the discussions which have led to a further cementing of our commitment to the female sex.

occa · 04/03/2021 21:07

Yes, I mainly lurk but if your point has been to make FWR unusable and pointless, it's working.

The spamming is so tedious and I can't believe it'd be tolerated on any other board on the site.

Glamflimfloogety · 04/03/2021 21:13

Like to add it's now been proven that the OP was just doing it for the screenshots. Their Twitter account confirms it was an experiment, and they have encouraged their followers to pile on.

Although it has to be said, I think the threads should be allowed to stand as they've exposed the completely empty rhetoric from one side of the debate, and opened the eyes of many a casual lurker

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/03/2021 21:20

I've reported the OP, not because there's anything wrong with it but to draw MNHQ's attention to this thread. @MNHQ doesn't go anywhere.

GettingUntrapped · 04/03/2021 21:20

Yes, it's great exposure of an legless argument that should never have gone this far.

AaronPurr · 04/03/2021 21:20

Yes it's disappointing that they were permitted to carry on despite admitting this was their intention early this morning. Although as you say many have had their eyes opened by the repeated posts.

I would like to know MNHQ view on posters spamming threads, usually duplicate or similar threads are removed.

NiceGerbil · 04/03/2021 21:22

I don't know. I think they can be useful for lurkers.

Banning them supports the idea that MN is an echo chamber etc etc

I get why people are very irritated though!

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/03/2021 21:23

@Glamflimfloogety I wasn't aware of that. Does MNHQ know? And would you mind PMing me re the twitter account please?

GCAcademic · 04/03/2021 21:29

Can you confirm, MN, whether you still operate the strike system when FWR posters respond to blatant trolling?

Dkfhenzkghsm · 04/03/2021 21:30

I only use Active. There are no dots to hide threads without opening them, so today if I wanted my Active list to actually show the threads that weren't just goady garbage I had to open all of them first.

Hence being fucked off by it.
