Ideas for a black section on mumsnet.

Should we have separate sections i.e black hair and beauty, black parenting, black cooking or a general black section?

I remember you.
What a surprise you have a problem with another thread.

Byebye

And this is why people are riled by OP.

OP, I've no issue with your substantive points. I do about your rudeness.

Open forum. I can post. You can post. Anyone can post.

You don't get to tell other people if they are allowed post on a thread it not, with your 'bye bye'

What's galling is MNHQ allows these posts to stand throughout and deletes people disagreeing with OP's approach.

Indeed. It's bizarre.

ExTwitter · 10/09/2020 18:46

@sunshinesupermum

About the main point, having a separate section, I don't really have a view & think that's fine if MNHQ agree. My objection is purely due to your views & way of putting others down) Me too.
Not too.mention the seeming fact MNHQ is biased massively toward the op.

To the point they'll happily delete any post that I'm assuming he reports.

Looking very fair HQ... Very.fair..

Straven123 · 10/09/2020 18:46

Black, Asian and minority ethnic -
I've lived in China, Dubai, visited India -I can see little in common between them, or traveller folk , for example , any more than they have with white people in the U.K. I think they are lumped together for statistical reasons.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/09/2020 18:48

Any thread by a black person is met by hostility because of racism.

That's just not true.

Of course, there is racism in existence and this is utterly wrong.

But any thread by a black person is met by hostility? No.

Sometimes we don't know the skin colour or ethnicity of a poster; sometimes we do as the poster says or it's relevant to the topic. I've seen those threads and have not seen racist responses. Of course I'm sure it happens sometimes & is deleted, as is correct.

Quaagars · 10/09/2020 18:49

Seems this person of colour is not allowed an opinion
People are going by your words on the screen, not the colour of your skin.
If they're being deleted they've broken talk guidelines, maybe try and think why that could be?

YgritteSnow · 10/09/2020 18:49

This. The B in BAME is for Black is it not?

I have been reliably and repeatedly informed that some find the term BAME problematic and do not like how it lumps all ethnicities together so I am attempting to ensure I don't cause offence. However my post has been deleted anyway so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Leostar · 10/09/2020 18:49

This is not what people fought for. The only colour that matters is the red of our blood. We are one race end of.

You do not speak for me
You do not represent me.
I am British and proud.

Black is not better. White is not better. The future of the world terrifies me.
Appreciate what you have and get on with your life.
Stop playing the victim card.
Be better not bitter

This segregation bollocks is not going to end well. Where does it end? Different buses? Black safe spaces? This is not what I want for my children

Straven123 · 10/09/2020 18:49

Scotsnet wasn't seen as a divisive thread - just different issues and stopped it getting lost in the melee

ZaZathecat · 10/09/2020 18:50

I don't get all the uproar over op's suggestion. We have Dadsnet and Gransnet, I don't see the problem.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/09/2020 18:50

I know this should be what happens but it's not here - many posters have not broken talk guidelines and still have posts deleted

Again as I said above we've had a multicultural families section for ages but like many topics it doesn't get much traffic so I honestly don't see how a topic solely for an even smaller demographic will be any better??

Exactly this and boards for Scottish and Irish too.

To my knowledge they've never caused a problem so why would this?

Quaagars · 10/09/2020 18:56

This thread is so depressing.
There's boards like Scotsnet, is there not?
Boards for different religions too.
Why can't someone who is black want a board that has issues that affect them, and relevant topics?
People saying she;'s being rude - I'm not surprised, I bet there's a point you get so fucking sick of all the shit flung at you you think "meh" and don't give a toss how your "tone" comes across, and think fuck that shit!

JingsMahBucket · 10/09/2020 18:56

@PatricksRum try to keep focused and don’t bother being derailed by these people. To quote the lovely and righteous Toni Morrison:

“The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being. Somebody says you have no language and you spend twenty years proving that you do. Somebody says your head isn’t shaped properly so you have scientists working on the fact that it is. Somebody says you have no art, so you dredge that up. Somebody says you have no kingdoms, so you dredge that up. None of this is necessary. There will always be one more thing.”

I’ll be back later with some suggestions for a Black section but need to get some work done first. Well done for launching this and thank you. :)

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 10/09/2020 18:58

I think a black section is a great idea.

I also think any white posters complaining about this, on any grounds, need to mind their own business.

Quaagars · 10/09/2020 18:59

Leostar

What on earth are you talking about?
Why are you going on about segregration?
Do you have the same reaction on learning there's a Scotsnet?
If not, why is that?

SoupDragon · 10/09/2020 18:59

Have MNHQ said that you will get lots of different topics and not just one like "Scotsnet" is?

spinthebottle · 10/09/2020 19:01

Jesus Christ. Honestly I wish MNHQ would fucking intervene honestly they’ve handled this like shit and I’m pissed off.

PatricksRum try not to acknowledge, I really hope they’re contacting you behind the scenes about what they can do because honestly this is ridiculous.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 10/09/2020 19:02

@OverTheRainbow88

A school/education section? Currently trying to decide which primary school to put as first choice, the outstanding out is 90% white and the closer one is about 85% BAME but has a poor reputation- would be good to chat about that
Ok, so I was against the idea at first. I didn't like the thought of segregation, but reading this it does make sense. As others have said there is a Scottish section etc. and that doesn't mean all Scottish people just stay there and don't contribute to the rest of mn, so yeah fair dos.

I think pps maybe have an issue with you OP because you come across as literally hating white people. Not nice.

Peace and love ✌️

TeamGhanaJollof · 10/09/2020 19:05

Hi OP,
Excellent idea.

Would love separate sections e.g:
Black General Chat
Black parenting
Black Hair
Black Style and Beauty
Black book club
Black Travel
