FWR clarification; deletion and strikes

ItsLateHumpty · 21/08/2020 17:09

Hey MNHQ

(I’m) Back on site stuff from FWR to talk to you because either we’re not understanding the rules or the rules have changed and we’ve not changed with them.

There seems to be a marked increase in all thread rather than suspect post deletion.
Or regular posters getting posts deleted but not sure why.
Or you acknowledge ‘not in faith’ posters and delete a whole thread, even though there’s been some very good discussion.
And we don’t know if we’re on a ‘strike’ deletion or not 😬

Totally appreciate you guys do a difficult job, and sometimes between a rock and a hard place! but if the rules sticky was updated or deletions were explained, we’d stop tripping over our own feet which causes you extra admin work.

Can you help us?

What humpty said

Is there any way the deletion message could be a little more descriptive at least?

Especially as some people like to twist deletions to suit their agenda

LilyMumsnet · 21/08/2020 18:27

Hi OP,

Thanks for getting in touch.

The guidelines haven’t changed - and if a poster has a question about a deletion or a specific query about the guidelines, we'd advise asking us. We're always happy to clarify.

If we issue a ‘strike’ then we will always be in touch with the user directly and will clarify why the post was removed.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 18:29

To be honest

When ive asked why ive been deleted I’ve always had a reply...well except once i think when i had to ask twice but thats fair enough

But i have heard that other posters haven’t had the same experience and no one has told them the reason

I don’t understand how people are expected to change and not do it again...if they don’t know what theyve done in the first place

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 18:30

Sorry lily i took ages to type mine and you’d posted first

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 18:31

The guidelines haven’t changed

I think they have

That biscuit thingy means no comment

And someone posted it and they were deleted for breaking talk guidelines

When all they were saying was no comment...they didnt say anything else

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 18:33

I dont think ive ever used the biscuit thingy

But how am i supposed to know if i can use it when i might be deleted?

I prefer the humphy face...

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 18:35

Oh and do you know what...in for a penny in for a pound and all that

People have been deleted for saying things that weren’t even against talk guidelines when they were originally posted...and get a strike

How is that fair

Mollscroll · 21/08/2020 18:54

I have been deleted for using a well used phrase which is not banned - or at least wasn't banned when I used it. I don't think it is now listed as banned in the talk guidelines. I have also twice emailed MNHQ to ask for clarification about these deletions and had no response.

0blio · 21/08/2020 18:58

As I understand it, deletions are made in response to reports. So the more reports there are the more likely a thread or post is to be deleted. MN has always been a self-moderating site.

JellyFishSquish · 21/08/2020 20:16

So the more reports there are the more likely a thread or post is to be deleted.

Well that makes no sense. Surely it does not matter HOW MANY reports, if they are all unfounded?

0blio · 21/08/2020 20:37

You would think wouldn't you Jellyfish? But I suppose if MNHQ think lots of posters are offended by a post/ thread then it's better for it to go.

Hi Rufus,

This has happened - yes, but we always revoke the strike when we've messed up the time of posts. If we've missed something, we're always happy to go over our decisions.

Hello,

I've just had a look - I can't see any mails to MNHQ from your address.
Would you be able to try sending us one now, so we can see if there's an issue with receiving mails from your account?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/08/2020 21:17

Thank you for the reply lily

Hello!

You can just report the deleted post to us - in the box, you can ask why it was deleted and we'll let you know.

Deliriumoftheendless · 22/08/2020 04:37

Thanks Lily

BullshitVivienne · 22/08/2020 07:21

I'd like to know why there's an ongoing TAAT in the form of the Bunbury threads and why that's ok?

Mollscroll · 22/08/2020 08:09

I’ve replied to the email you have sent me

ItsLateHumpty · 22/08/2020 08:45

Thanks for the reply Lily. I’d have to go back through my emails, but I’m pretty sure when I’ve asked about a deletion I was quoted the talk guidelines and still couldn’t see what rule I’d broken.

We’ve also had deletions for posting just the word “yawn”, the biscuit emoji as a RufustheSniggeringReindeer so eloquently explained 😋 and I was deleted for explaining what the grey rock method was, etc.

This is where my confusion comes, so if you’ve any more info on how we avoid deletions for what seems fairly innocuous posts it would help.

Cheers

Well this ones easy

Don’t post them on FWR

ItsLateHumpty · 22/08/2020 08:55

😱😂😂😂🤪😘

OP posts:
Mollscroll · 22/08/2020 08:56

True although I got deleted on AIBU for very innocuous wording. As soon as a thread gets traction reports start coming in. I think MNHQ should think about how they deal with clearly targeted reporting. We can name change although shouldn’t have to.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 22/08/2020 09:00

When people start reporting emoji its clearly 💩

😩
