FWR clarification; deletion and strikes

Hey MNHQ

(I’m) Back on site stuff from FWR to talk to you because either we’re not understanding the rules or the rules have changed and we’ve not changed with them.

There seems to be a marked increase in all thread rather than suspect post deletion.
Or regular posters getting posts deleted but not sure why.
Or you acknowledge ‘not in faith’ posters and delete a whole thread, even though there’s been some very good discussion.
And we don’t know if we’re on a ‘strike’ deletion or not 😬

Totally appreciate you guys do a difficult job, and sometimes between a rock and a hard place! but if the rules sticky was updated or deletions were explained, we’d stop tripping over our own feet which causes you extra admin work.

Can you help us?

FWR clarification; deletion and strikes

Ah, lovebombing, was it?

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 17/09/2020 22:12

I missed the end, but the op was expressing themselves with vigour when I last looked.

ItsLateHumpty · 17/09/2020 23:58

I missed the thread but from what I’ve read regular MN posters reported said thread and were told it was legit, not a PBP, etc and to behave.

Non members mocked the thread on other SM platforms and MN delete asap for reasons, so now it looks like MN members are transphobic, instead of what actually happened Confused

Useful Hmm

I have just reported a post asking MN to respond to our concerns and questions.

So if I understand a previous post correctly;

  1. A new user bumps an old discussion thread with a new comment
  1. The original OP who has been gone for aeons suddenly reappears
  1. Comments from the old thread are then reported by outside users so that the thread or the comments will get deleted (and posters get new strikes, even though presumably the comments were made before the rules got ... draconian?)

This is very, very unfair.

Clymene · 18/09/2020 10:30

I had a post deleted from a thread last week. The thread was very short (less than 20 posts iirc) and all the posts were made on a single day in February. Someone bumped it and I got a strike for my post.

MNHQ revoked the strike when I emailed to query it so I was pleased about that.

But it does seem fairly clear that malicious posters are trawling through old threads looking to find offence. And possibly targeting specific posters?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 18/09/2020 17:17

Hello all & thanks for your comments. The thread in question was concerning for several reasons - we could see from Twitter that some activists were asserting the OP was a troll - we have no idea whether she was or not to be honest, and our dealings with her were perfectly pleasant, but this wasn't helping matters much, and, as several posts were subsequently breaking our Talk Guidelines we didn't think it could recover.

With regards to the reporting of threads (we actually address this in our guidelines), we can see who is reporting stuff, and while we don't keep spreadsheets or anything we can clearly see if someone is reporting vexatiously and we do take action.

As always, if you want more information about a particular deletion, please get in touch. Thanks.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/09/2020 19:39

The thread on Twitter gloating about successfully having trolled Mumsnet was linked in the thread on Mumsnet which had been started in order to harvest screenshots: it wasn't a supposition, it was openly admitted there.

Thank you for the reassurance that you do keep tabs on who is doing the reporting as well as who is reported. That is good to know.
