Hq - please explain why some topics cannot be discussed ?

Just that hq.

I had posted about dispatches documentary aired 15/4/20

Clearly I cannot say what about.

I have drawn parallels to the cse scandal with certain elements of society grooming children.
That's a fact
And widely discussed now on the boards.
I work I law and have brought many of those perpetrators to justice.
I think had I listed about that issue 15 years ago I would have been told I was being racist an shit down , just as I an now in trying to talk about another minority group and their links to crime .

Why can this. It be discussed openly?
Why do my posts keep getting deleted despite the evidence?

It seems mn is very jumpy about allowing discussion around certain topics . Why? Why can we
Not discuss the facts around travellers sites and crime ?
Why can I not talk about a documentary aired last night around this very topic !? Please explain. This is not a thread about a thread . I'm just curious as to why some topics are taboo and taken down ? Hindsight has shown us that there are lessons to be learnt about certain elements of society regarding crime.
Why is it ok to talk about some things and not others ?
Thanks

Funny how at least one of the voices on this thread supporting OP has the same interesting typographical quirk of occasionally putting a space prior to punctuation.

And for the record, I do indeed have personal lived experience of the traveller community but - given they're not a homogenous mass - the fact that my best friend and her family are delightful people who have done nothing but contribute positively to society (including as teachers, nurses, a leading geologist and a trainee surgeon) doesn't really mean much.

Cnoc · 19/04/2020 22:54

Look, @imcockerhoop, maybe you should get back to your justice-wielding job. You aren’t capable of reasoned debate on Traveller crime in the context of poverty, poor education, low life expectancy, historical discrimination etc, not to mention ignoring Channel 4’s appalling record on representing Travellers as grotesque jokes via My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. You have no interest in listening to anyone who disagrees with you. You have not answered my questions about the source of the statistics the programme used.

A quick Google suggests that a lot of people, including the Gypsy Roma Traveller Police Association, found the programme poorly-made, bad journalism, biased and racist, pointed out that the director has a history of anti-Traveller comments on social media, said there was a lack of named convicted criminal Travellers mentioned in the programme (apparently two?), the lack of Traveller voices in the programme (two, one from a reality tv show?) and many other issues. One expert interviewed on the programme has disavowed it and said her interview was misused.

It sounds at best highly problematic.

imcockerhoop · 19/04/2020 23:32

peach

I've reported so hopefully mn hq can confirm no sock puppetry.

Sick of that ridiculous accusation.

Soontobe60 · 20/04/2020 08:45

@imcockerhoop

*Travellers are great with people arm stroking.

They rather like people less who are trying to impose law*

Can't you see that your comment IS racist by definition?

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 11:29

Soontobe60

Apologies, yes that was a sweeping generalisation. Shouldn't have said that .

I think the issue is that all my dealings have unfortunately been negative.

Ulver · 20/04/2020 12:25

So the OP works in child protection or some arm of social work and is surprised that all her dealings with people who are probably criminals by definition of her job are negative.
Wow. I feel sorry for your clients.
I expect that you are tarring the victims as being inferior by birth as well.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 20/04/2020 14:00

The other posts on the other threads that OP started purely to be bigoted against travellers didn't point to the OP being in social work or child protection, more towards debt collecting or sheriff officer - which would fit with both their attitude and their posting style.
I'm guessing they've not been here that long or they'd be concerned about MN handing their details over if someone makes a complaint to the police about racism and online abuse. As TRAs have shown, the police love pursuing online hateful content that targets minorities as long as the minority isn't women

Ulver · 20/04/2020 14:10

The Equality Act 2010 defines Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers as ethnic groups, meaning they're legally protected against race discrimination. Legally, race discrimination is defined as unfair treatment because of one of the following things: colour, nationality, national origin or ethnic origin.

You can bet that if this thread was saying that all of the OPs interactions with “Jews” or “Black People” were negative it would have been pulled a long time ago. The fact that the OP is feeling lonely and sad and sorry for herself because no one wants to join in on the race baiting is just the cherry on the cake.

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 21:22

Ok.

I think reading the lists back I have been far less aggressive, belligerent, militant and rude than those who shout me down.

I'm genuinely not sad or sorry for myself . I actually a very happy go lucky type , so mn really means very little to me .

Being right on is clearly way more important than the experience of victims of criminality from any group.

I'm actually speaking for people who dare not . I fear that had a similar documentary been made about CSE and it being predominantly certain groups in certain places the same discussion would have been coded down.

That is , and has always been, my point .

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 21:24

And I joined this site 13 years ago. Been here ever since .

Ulver · 20/04/2020 21:36

ulver

So , you are disputing the findings of a documentary based on the fact that an Irish gent from the travelling community married your aunty and is a top bloke ?

This is the level of argument that I’m supposed to entertain from some who supposedly has a degree level of education.

I refuse.

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 21:36

That's fine by me .

Ulver · 20/04/2020 21:39

MNHQ
Please delete this thread which is essentially a pity party for a sad lonely racist looking to find similar to be racist with online

Ulver · 20/04/2020 21:42

You have zero statistics or actual evidence for your statements.
If you cared about victims you would go out of your way to research and complete evidence to address concerns for their community.

Ulver · 20/04/2020 21:49

Imagine if there were a police officer coming here moaning that he had negative experiences with the people he had to deal with on a daily basis.
No Shit Sherlock, if you choose that as your profession that’s what you will encounter. Similarly with social work.
The idea that you are “having negative experiences” with communities and you don’t understand why just shows your lack up understanding of your responsibilities legally and professionally. You come across as being completely out of your depth.

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 21:56

Seriously? Boo boo I'm offended so please consider me as far more important and delete the thread because I find it offensive? Please don't allow any discussion about this because it's a touchy subject for meeeeee....

Really? That's your argument? I'm guessing you are so openly vocal because of your stance - the victims of crime carried out by travellers dare not speak out for fear of reprisals.

Ask the 78 year old who happened to stab Henry Vincent in self defence while he was breaking in to his house while high on cocaine and heroin - ask if he feels safe ? Has he ever been able to return home since the death threats? These cases may not hit the headlines but that's because no one is usually killed . I'm quite willing to accept that this is not all travellers or sites - you refuse to accept this happens and hide behind the equality act and insults. The big headline grabbing stories may be rare - but the low level thefts, burglaries, anti social behaviour don't grab those headlines, do they?

Ulver · 20/04/2020 22:04

I refuse to accept the babbling of a barely literate ANON account which has ZERO credibility

SharonasCorona · 20/04/2020 22:05

From Nazia Afzal

OP, you've misspelled Nazir Afzal's name and haven't acknowledged it.

If you're prone to typos then you need to be extra careful when typing names. You don't get a free pass on misspelling names because the person is BAME.

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 22:10

What I find truly ironic is :-
What do you think I'm doing? Making assumptions? What are
You doing ? Making the exact same assumptions about me . !!

I spelt a persons name incorrectly. Im terribly sorry .

imcockerhoop · 20/04/2020 22:11

What's a BAME ?

Ulver · 20/04/2020 22:14

imcockerhoop

What's a BAME ?

OMG this person claims to “work in law” WTAF???

HebeMumsnet · 20/04/2020 22:15

Evening, everyone. We think this thread has done its job now and we're a bit worried that it's a) turning a bit bunfighty and b) in danger of becoming a TAAT rather than a 'site stuff' type thread. We hope we've given the OP some clarity now on our reasons for removing the thread originally.

We're going to close this to new posts now.

Ulver · 20/04/2020 22:16

I think that this member is a troll.
There is zero fucking chance that they work in law or in the nhs

Mumsnet what the actual fuck?

Ulver · 20/04/2020 22:16

About fucking time
