quite jv. I think I tried to say some of that, just not as well.
I shan't post on here agin as I don't want those who wish to put their name down to find there is no more room here.

Mercy · 10/09/2007 21:09

Policywonk - I understand what you are saying.

imo there is only one owner of MN - MNHQ itself. Fair enough of course, but I am feeling rather cynical atm.

gess · 10/09/2007 21:09

I do think that people who sit at home 'discussing' feeding dead children to pigs in the name of 'news' are weirdos. I doubt I'm the only one. Well I'm not because expat called them freaks.

Anyway with real life intervening, I don't really care how the point is made, but I wish to register that I find speculation of the pigs/smell/scent of corpses type distasteful.

But point taken. I am from now on choosing not to read any of this, or indulge in any further navel gazing on this thread. Somoene let me know when a consensus is reached on the best way to show distaste and add my name.

Cheers.

JeremyVile · 10/09/2007 21:11

No-one said any of those things on the thread you were just on Gess.

The analogy MB draws, about the BNP, is one we over here in Germany are actually regularly confronted with (marches and 'demonstrations' staged by German neo-Nazi parties and groups). In the incidences I have experienced, there have basically been three different ways of responding to such 'demonstrations': Stage a counter-demonstration to block their way(often not permitted because court action to prevent the Nazi marches has failed - on the grounds of constitutional right to 'freedom of association'); just ignore (not acceptable for a great number of reasons); or, as a united front, shut the shops, shut the curtains, turn away demonstratively when the march passes, and, indeed, register the clearest distaste without engaging. Without wanting to compare MmC thread tricoteuses to German neo-Nazis, I think this thread and the 'registering my distaste' posts are comparable to the third method and, as here, in many ways the best course of action.

minorityrules · 10/09/2007 21:16

oh fgs

Where is this poxy feeding pigs thing? I can't even find it.....it was one person according to other people, 1 poster, not every that was discussing the news of friday

The family "leaked' the cadaver dogs stuff, no one on here made it up, they were police cadaver dogs.

you keep harping on about one little section of posts, we all know you didn't like them

You don't have the right to stop ALL discussion though. This new thread was started over some news reports. It hasn;t started speculating, nor has it gone 'distastful'

REGISTERING MY DISTASTE

Aitch · 10/09/2007 21:16

this whole thing sucks, LL. oh well, we tried to approach this seemingly intractable problem from a different angle and it didn't work. that's life, i suppose. onwards and upwards.

Add me to the sentiments put forward by the OP.

The intentions were spot on Aitch, but unfortunately not everyone will abide by those rules. Different people have different ways of expressing their distaste and I doubt you'll get everyone to agree on one way and put up a united front.

Do what feels right for you. That's all.

of course they do, Rhubs, 'twas ever thus... i've been here long enough to know that threads take unexpected turns, and they're certainly not under the control of the OP. at least we had a relatively civilised discussion about it, that's the main thing.

I signed up for the same reason Aitch. And it did make me feel better, at least for a while.

Aitch · 10/09/2007 21:25

but for the record i never aimed for a united front, tbh, rhubarb, we're not a political party, just a bunch of individuals on the internet.

everyone will interpret an OP through the prism of their own experience, everyone will, as you said earlier 'come at it from different angles', but i think the gist is there and it's not been a waste of energy. i think that, anyway, although this being MN not everyone will agree.

One thing that I would say is that my 'prism' did not see this as a class based issue, or a newbies vs old timers issue, it wasn't about censorship, it was about voicing my feelings.

other people came with their prism and started making up things related to class like 'fag smoking'. That was their take on it, never mine

Rhubarb · 10/09/2007 21:28

Yup, you tried. And it culminated in a letter to the Guardian!

Perhaps we should all write to the Guardian? Just a thought.

tiredemma · 10/09/2007 21:32

Where can I read Justines letter to The Guardian?

Rhubarb · 10/09/2007 21:33

scroll down till your eyes go all funny and you fall off your chair.

I do that just for fun btw.
