Most of the threads have gone now.

I don't think that, however well intentioned this thread was, it will make any difference whatsoever. Mumsnet will continue to be quoted as long as it allows freedom of speech (as it should), journalists will pick and choose their quotes and threads like this will be largely ignored.

I don't believe in censorship but I do understand that none of you want any part in the particularly vile discussions that have taken part on this site.

Unfortunately I think all we can do is wait for the whole furore to pass away. Which it seems to be doing.

But is not really a LOL is it LL, it is our dirty linen being washed in public.

And what most people won't know is that some people have only joined this site to discuss the whole sorry debacle.

And they are not indicative of the intelligent well educated bunch that we in the main are.

Not really as the title doesn't make it clear which threads you are on about and putting the latin there just puts people off, sorry Aitch, as it sounds overly pretentious and cliquey.

Not saying that I disagree with the ideas behind it though. Or that I would have done any better.

Not put people off, but new people coming onto the site would not necessarily know what this thread was about and wouldn't necessarily click on it to find out.

Those who have signed up to the list are regulars. There aren't many new names on there.

Rhubarb I was dragged over to this post to find out what the feck the Latin meant - only to find agreed with the sentiment (even if I didn't find out what the Latin meant until about 10 posts ago) so it didn't entirely put us stupid people off .

I do agree with you though that it will in all likelihood make a difference and in fact the media will completely ignore it. That said I posted because I agreed, because I have been immensely frustrated by trying to make my point on other threads, because sometimes you have to say what you think evven if it will make no difference because its what you believe and shouting it into the ether (or ethernet!) will make you feel better.

A suggestion

Tech, is is possible that each time a McC thread is started, there is a link to this discussion and an explanation from mumsnet about the controversy on the site surrounding posting on McC threads. Possibly a statement that the views expressed may not be indicative of etc etc.

Could the link be next to the 'new messages box' or wherever else it would be eyecatching. Also or instead of, a link to the list of people who do not like the speculative nature of the threads.

So whoever opens a McM thread can instantly see that lots of mumsnetters feel this is a topic best left alone? This might stop journalists from quoting mumsnet opinions out of context (or might not but hey, worth a go).

After the judgeflounce episode, you amended the text next to threads started in the legal section. Can you do something similar (with or without a link) here?

Why just this particular issue? He is being trashed over there in a similar if not worse manner. Though admittedly he has not lost a child.

In fact he hasn't lost a member of family or even anyone particularly close to him. I'm sure being accused of a crime is a horrible experience if you are innocent but not at the foothills of losing a child.

I haven;t even read the Barrymore thread because (like many other threads) I have no interest in him, I don't identify with him in anyway. I can identify with the pain of a parent losing a child.
