Hi folks,

Yule never guess what... it's 48 days until Christmas!

We know what you're thinking... it's a bit early for turkey and Santa talk. Tbf, you're right, but we need your help!

At MNHQ, we are dying to know what Christmas films roast your chestnuts.

All you need to do is post your favourite family Christmas film on this thread. We'll track the answers and reveal the results with a Mnetters top ten video!

But wait—there’s myrrh. Did we mention that every user who contributes will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win some Mumsnet goodies? No? Well, everyone that contributes will be entered - and we'll be picking one lucky winner. So what are you waiting for?

Elf!

BiBiBirdie · 12/11/2019 19:48

Scrooged
I absolutely love that film. It's cheesy eighties glitz and OTT at its best, and Bill Murray is just exceptionally good.
Everything stops for Scrooged in our house

LazyFace · 12/11/2019 20:32

Even if it won't make it into the top 10:

Love Actually

TheGirlWhoLived · 12/11/2019 20:42

Absolute favourite is miracle on 34th street. TheGirlWhoLived believes

VioletStar · 12/11/2019 20:55

Miracle on 34th street - either new or old version

Soozikinzii · 12/11/2019 22:15

Polar express

MonaChopsis · 12/11/2019 22:47

We both love Elf to distraction, and occasionally even watch it for a midsummer Xmas injection!

Miljea · 12/11/2019 23:23

Loads, but Fiddler on the Roof for me. Love a bit of a pogrom to set the Christmas mood ☹️😊

But, Home Alone 'Oh Holy Night', in the church scene. Wow.

The 'The Snowman'. Not a movie, I know.

Miljea · 12/11/2019 23:25

And, of course, Sound of Music. Despite my penchant for pogrom-noir (Fiddler on the Roof); escaping the Nazis is also there. I mean... Edelweiss? 😥

Miljea · 12/11/2019 23:27

Lazy- yes, Love Actually is up there. You'd need to have believed in Tony Blair to 'get it'. But it's a great Xmas movie!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 12/11/2019 23:28

Elf
The Grinch
Muppets Christmas Carol
All classics Grin

kateandme · 13/11/2019 03:04

hallmark movies for me.yes thats what i said!
but miracle on 34th street in general

Willowkins · 13/11/2019 03:21

And the winner (for me) is: It's a Wonderful Life

foreverblessedbee · 13/11/2019 03:28

Ah Christmas films! Somewhat of a staple for us as ds2 likes to watch year-round, often wearing Santa hat mid august lol
Our faves....
Home alone - agree with pp about oh holy night in the church
Nativity- all 3, watched back to back😁!
Arthur christmas
Christmas with the KranksSmile
Basically every christmas film you could think if, they're all his faves.
But I'll go
1st- Arthur Christmas
2nd- Home Alone
3rd- Elf
You're welcome👌🏼🎅🏼🤶🏽🌲🌲🌲

PocketDictionary · 13/11/2019 04:33

Rudolph & the island of misfit toys.
It's just brilliant.

WhatALump · 13/11/2019 06:44

For me it’s home alone followed by Nativity.
DH says Die Hard is the best Xmas movie ever 🧐

TheClitterati · 13/11/2019 06:49

Christmas Chronicles (says dd2) & Elf (says me). Dd1 says Nightmare Before Xmas.

We all love Love Home Alone too.

TheClitterati · 13/11/2019 06:50

I try and ban Xmas films before December but dd2 has been indulging all week.

Dino44 · 13/11/2019 06:52

Miracle on 34th street, the colour version with the girl from Matilda

HappydaysArehere · 13/11/2019 09:55

Jingle All The Way - love it.

Baboutheocelot · 13/11/2019 09:59

Jingle all the way, at first I thought it was cheesy and generic but it’s so funny!
Home alone obviously as it’s a classic.
Elf
Nativity
And a recent find is Arthur Christmas, I’ve had to watch it about 20 times now and it’s really grown on me.

bobsyourauntie · 13/11/2019 13:30

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Christmas With The Kranks
Elf
Nativity 1, 2, 3
Home Alone
Home Alone 2

CatChant · 13/11/2019 15:02

It's a Wonderful Life.

2stepsonthewater · 13/11/2019 18:08

Elf!
Especially the scene where he dances on the table in the post room.

Anj123 · 13/11/2019 19:48

Elf because the whole family loves it and it’s hilarious! 😂
