On iPad running iOS12

Huge advertisements that I’m unable to close meaning I can’t read threads - screenshot attached as an example

Thought it was just me, I’m getting the annoying next advert too.
On an iPad.

FlissMumsnet · 02/11/2019 21:43

Hi FeltCarrot,

Sorry to hear this is a problem for you too - would you grab us a screen shot if possible so we can see exactly what you're seeing,

Thanks a lot

BitOfFun · 03/11/2019 00:07

I am having this problem too. Safari on an ipad2.

Tartyflette · 03/11/2019 01:56

I too keep getting the massive ads (Next baby) that you can't get rid of. Using iPad 2018. Really annoying.
I don't like the app.

Orchardgreen · 03/11/2019 08:03

Me too. Bloody Next

passthecheese · 03/11/2019 08:03

Me too. I’m on an iPad. Extremely annoying

SmilingButClueless · 03/11/2019 08:03

Still happening and seems to be getting more frequent if anything

Another one getting the huge Next baby ad, there doesn't seem to be any way of blocking it.

iwantavuvezela · 03/11/2019 10:18

I have the huge Next almost 3D Ad, I can’t actually read the threads, and there is nowhere to click it off.

Becca19962014 · 03/11/2019 10:26

I've been getting the next 3D box ad for days, it actually makes me feel ill as its making text jump all over the place. It's obviously a paid for ad by MN as it cannot be switched off. The advice to use mobile version instead (via email) as using the wrong version causes the issue is useless as the mobile version doesn't run on my device.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 03/11/2019 13:05

It’s been alright for a while but now I’m getting a 3D Next ad stopping me from using the site

I am using Safari on my iPad.

I think it’s fair to assume that MN have accepted payment from Next for this advert which is good to keep the site free but advertisers should not be allowed to disrupt users surely.

Becca19962014 · 03/11/2019 13:45

bugger the problem is it makes the site unusable and cannot be turned off. I've also found that such ads use up a lot of my mobile data (no option for wifi where I am).

Literally the only suggestion, I've had, is to use the mobile version only on my iPad as its not designed for the desktop version but I cannot do this as the mobile version doesn't work on it (probably due to programs I have running to use the site due to disability/not running up to date iOS because it's too old to do so). No other suggestions have been made to me since telling MNHQ this; I came here in case other suggestions were here but they are not.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 03/11/2019 14:40

Oh I absolutely agree. I don’t think MN should accept adverts that interfere with the site on ANY platform.

Nicknacky · 03/11/2019 21:42

MN, what exactly are you doing about this advert?

lasttimeIplaythetartforUJerry · 04/11/2019 09:38

I'm also getting the huge Next Baby ad. This seems to have been going on since at least the 23rd October. Are you trying to fix this?

Becca19962014 · 04/11/2019 10:23

A thread has been started about the next ad here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3732508-Next-Advert?watched=1&msgid=91322424#91322424 I've linked this thread on that one to let MNHQ know its being discussed on this one as well.

I'm still having this problem.

Butterisbest · 04/11/2019 10:32

It's now Monday 4th November and the next baby is back.

soniamumsnet · 04/11/2019 10:50

Hi - thanks for the reports.

Please try using the mobile version of the site and this should fix the problem.

Becca19962014 · 04/11/2019 11:06

Last year I was told not to use the mobile version because of another problem I was having and, now the mobile version doesn't work at all.

CoraPirbright · 04/11/2019 12:18

If this keeps happening, I am going to have to stop using MN. It’s just too frustrating!

Becca19962014 · 04/11/2019 13:22

I'm stopping. There's no point. I cannot run the mobile site with equipment I need to access the site.

Virtually housebound and for me this site was a lifeline and I had friends here.

Honestly the reluctance by MN to fix this could end up killing the site for a lot of people. Simply put MN cannot expect everyone to be running the same set up that your tech are some of us require specialist software to access the site and put up with massive glitches which are increasing all the time.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 04/11/2019 13:37

Next Baby advert is ridiculous.

@BeccaMumsnet - please understand that some of can’t access or don’t want to use the mobile app on an iPad. For example, I prefer to hop between websites on safari. If I opened the app I would never get anything else done!

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 04/11/2019 13:37

Oops that was to @soniamumsnet

soniamumsnet · 05/11/2019 10:26

Hi,

Just popping in to let you know that the issue with the Next baby ad has now been fixed. Please let us know if you experience any further problems. Thanks for your patience. Flowers

OublietteBravo · 05/11/2019 19:38

I’m having a problem with the huge William Hill ad making my screen jump. Again. Making MN unusable. I had this a month or so back, and it has returned. I’m using the mobile version of the site on my iPhone.
