Would you pay to go ad-free on the Talk App?

Hi guys, I’ve got a bit of an unusual question, bear with me!

Some of you have mentioned you would be willing to pay to go ad-free, so we’d like to know your collective thoughts if we offered ad-free Talk in the iOS app, with some extra benefits.

On the iOS Talk app, if you could have:
- Ad-free Talk
- Increased allowance of photos
- Extra Mumsnet Emoticons

Would you be willing to pay a monthly subscription? If so, what would be a fair amount? This wouldn’t affect any of the existing Talk features, which everyone would continue to get for free.

I would pay to avoid ads, but I'd have to get used to using the app first as I don't like it compared to the mobile site.

Not a chance

No.

Why are MNHQ investing in unwanted and unnecessary things like "additional emoticons" for a paid app, when you haven't fixed the advanced search option.

I tell you what people might pay for.... the ability to edit their posts...

additional emoticons seems the most pointless 'paid for' addition, when you can use the entire global emoji set anyway 😕

When it changed to have a massive ad come up after the OP each time (on my phone - mobile site), I started only using MN in an ad-blocking browser. It cost me nothing. So no!

I deleted the app on my android phone because its functionality was so poor. So I don't even use it for free.
And saying it would give is extra emoticons does make it sound like you think we are kids.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/07/2019 13:20

No. I use the app out of preference, but given that it's not fully functional (no advanced search or messaging, and prone to mucking up markup with no preview available) I'd just switch back to using the browser for everything.

If you want to charge for the app you need to first actually make it a premium service rather than as currently, inferior to the browser version.

Extra emoticons which presumably everyone could see but only app customers could use seems like a weird idea. Is that even possible? Would they be immune from c&ping? and what more than Dragon and Archers could we possibly want? Grin

I love the ads. Got this one in Relationships earlier. Perfectly targeted.

I'm already broke. The chances of me paying to access Mumsnet in any way, shape or form are zero.
