Would you pay to go ad-free on the Talk App?

Hi guys, I’ve got a bit of an unusual question, bear with me!

Some of you have mentioned you would be willing to pay to go ad-free, so we’d like to know your collective thoughts if we offered ad-free Talk in the iOS app, with some extra benefits.

On the iOS Talk app, if you could have:
- Ad-free Talk
- Increased allowance of photos
- Extra Mumsnet Emoticons

Would you be willing to pay a monthly subscription? If so, what would be a fair amount? This wouldn’t affect any of the existing Talk features, which everyone would continue to get for free.

I'm an android user so I'm excluded anyway but no I wouldn't pay a sub to use a forum.

There are plenty of ways already to do the things you're suggesting as perks.

newmomof1 · 04/07/2019 11:04

I wouldn't - the ads are small banners anyway so don't interrupt use of the app.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/07/2019 11:05

No.

insancerre · 04/07/2019 11:08

No
I wouldn’t pay
But if the ads got on my nerves I would just stop using the site and find another one

BiteyShark · 04/07/2019 11:10

No I wouldn't pay.

Lol!

No.

If one of the perks was the ability to ONLY show the OP's posts in threads then yes I would! After the first few posts on a good thread I become uninterested in other PP's posts and only interested in what the OP updates with and it's a pain to have to keep scrolling, looking for the light blue username for updates from OP. I often miss one or two updates if I've scrolled too fast. That would be an awesome feature that I'd pay for alone!

Maybe £1.49-£2.49 a month?

HappyLoneParentDay · 04/07/2019 11:21

Although one thing to remember is that if you're dealing with billing etc then there would need to be a phone number for billing issues. Would that lead to lots of disgruntled users calling to moan about their posts/threads being deleted/complaining about trolls and/or troll hunters etc etc. Could become mayhem

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 11:24

No, absolutely not.

FinallyHere · 04/07/2019 11:26

Hello, compared to the web site, I found the app blissfully ad-free

Since reading thus thread. I have noticed that there are some ads , no doubt they will jump out at me for a while.

While I wouldn't mind on principle paying a low subscription, I do not think the place would be the same and so would expect to stop using it within day one year.

Sorry.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/07/2019 11:38

I know it's not what you asked, but I would pay a small sub to be able to use the mobile site ad free...

TidyDancer · 04/07/2019 11:47

No I wouldn't be willing to pay personally. Like others, if the ads annoyed me I would just stop using the app.

MiniMum97 · 04/07/2019 12:15

No I wouldn't pay.

TeapotofTerror · 04/07/2019 12:16

Nope. And please don't start trying to force us by bombarding us with ads like YouTube is doing.

S1naidSucks · 04/07/2019 12:16

I think Mumsnet is one of the best sites for unobtrusive adds. They’re on here but not popping up or forcing you to interact with them in order to read a thread. I also like to know which companies don’t have a problem with GC feminists being permitted to discuss feminist issues and that’s usually the ones on here. I’m much more aware of what companies i give my money to.

Ribeebie · 04/07/2019 12:22

No

OutComeTheWolves · 04/07/2019 12:32

Itellpeopletogoogleit · 04/07/2019 12:42

Nope. The android app is shit so I definitely wouldn't be giving you any money! It's like it was designed by someone who has never used a phone. There's constant errors.

Wallywobbles · 04/07/2019 12:42

No ads and
the ability to just see op posts
to search for a posters name within a thread.

That I'd pay for. Emojis no.

WitsEnding · 04/07/2019 12:50

No.

Satterthwaite · 04/07/2019 12:55

That'll be a no, thenGrin
