Jeremy Corbyn - webchat to discuss self-identification of sex

On the Andrew Marr Show today, Jeremy Corbyn indicated that the Labour Party is in favour of a policy of people being able to self-identify as the opposite sex.

Could we get Jeremy Corbyn on Mumsnet to do a webchat in order to discuss the implications around this?

If he is unavailable, could we have another senior Labour figure?

Thank you

I wouldn't want a junior, no.
I want Jeremy Corbyn.

(And Theresa May & Nichola Sturgeon too actually).

The Daily Politics episode where Dawn Butler looked terribly badly informed on the tension between transgender and women’s rights is no longer viewable on the BBC website.

If we had a choice, I’d prefer the party leader more senior know-nothing.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/02/2018 21:30

He has not even bothered to reply? Thats great.

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 15/02/2018 21:35

My suspicion is that they just don't think it's that important. Virtue signalling in an ill thought out way is much more important. Just ignore the troublesome women and they'll quiet down.

Well we won't.

Well if Corbyn doesn't fancy discussing this perhaps John McDonnell his charming number two should be asked?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 16/02/2018 07:54

I don't think there's anything McDonnell hates more than a woman with an opinion.

bridgetbishop · 16/02/2018 08:08

According to my MP, McDonnell is the one we need to convince on this.

Hi all,

Just posting to say will chase the webchat with our press team today and if there are any updates, we'll let you know.

Thank you, Lorna.

According to a quick google search, under 1% of the country is 'gender non-confirming' (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean) but 51.7% of the country is female.

Let him court that -1% and lose his female support (minus handmaidens). See how he feels about it then.

VaguelyAware · 16/02/2018 11:02

Thanks, Lorna. I won't be holding my breath though. Because Labour are making it increasingly obvious that they are not interested in what large numbers of biological women think, or want, or need. I had so much hope, but will not vote for a party that refuses to recognise my biology.

Dodo excellent suggestion (Lily Madigan) Grin

And yeah, wholeheartedly agree with the above poster. I couldn't muster any support for Labour, especially given their position on women.

No way would Lily do it Grin We are very dangerous people you know, people who could physically harm Lily through a computer screen, such are the powers of witches

Although it’s pleasing to read that Mumsnet is being taken seriously it saddens me that a man has to say ‘they aren’t all just middle class mummies’ for us to be heard.

hipsterfun · 16/02/2018 21:23

Middle class - tick.

Mother - tick.

Lifelong Labour voter - tick.

Labour, if you’re reading, please understand that I’ll vote Tory if they are prepared to clearly state that women are women and TIMs are not women.

You’ve made yourselves look ridiculous over this, but it’s not too late. Probably best to sort it out now, before the rest of the country goes Hmm

Maybe if we start a chant or something?

I’m desperately trying to remember he politics of my student days. Lots of chanting, marching and shouting (half the time not knowing what was going on and bugger all actually getting done).

PositivelyPERF · 18/02/2018 10:56

Middle class - nope

Mother - foster/adoptive

Labour voter - yes

Continuing to vote labour - not while they continue to sacrifice women

Hopeful bump!

Popchyk · 23/02/2018 09:53

Any update, MNHQ?

Even if it is "We've asked the LP twice and they've ignored us".

Be good to know.
